Welcom Lexi, haven't we met somewhere? Perhaps not - the line between reality and fiction becomes somwhat blurred at my age. I don't mind so much - can be quite fun in fact.

Would you pack it in with the soup - mind you tis better than the hors d'oeuvres that preceded it!

Now, about that varicose vein - would you believe it, it became thrombosed. Shall I continue?

Clarification: I posted the above Mod comment to Cicero yesterday, this had nothing to do with the previous discussion in the forum.

It did relate to one of Cicero's posts, from which I edited inappropriate material. However, in discussion with Cicero by PM it turned out that the offending material was a result of a predictive text error, and was not intentional.

OG, I've never understood about 'Zombies'.

    What's it all about ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,633 ✭✭✭✭OldGoat

    Zombies are just fun. :)

I think each generation had it's own 'monster' to make into a cult. There were the Indians of the westerns.
The City stomping monsters of the Atomic era, Godzilla, Mothera (and the lovely monster movie filmed partly in Bulloch Harbour and Coliemore Harbour - Gorgo) and that ilk.
After the cold war and the threat of atomic warfare passed we became obsessed in a zenophobic way of being afraid of The Others and we saw the fasination with Aliens and Predators.
More recently the goths re-introduced us to the tales of Bram Stoker and Edgar Allen Poe and hence the twinkly vampires evolved. To counter the sickly sweet way Horror turned the Rise of the Zombie subculture reared it's undead head.
Zombies have always been one of the four mainstays of horror, Frankinstein, Wolfman, Dracula and Zombies.

Some people feel that the Zombies are a perfect repesentation of any future apocolypse. If some catstrophy occurs there will be survivors and those survival skills are roleplayed in Zombie survival stories. I will almost guarentee that if you ask 10 people where they would go if zombies attacked 9 they will say "To a supermarket/mall/shopping centre". See, we're being conditioned to survive and fight back.

And it's all a bit of a laugh really. :)

Rough estimate of numbers for the Zombie Walk on Saturday is 5000* - and if even quater of those donated €10 a head it's a nice little slice of cash to give to charity.
Donations are still being accepted by the way.

*Biggest Zombie Walk in the world and destined to be a Guinness Book Record - fingers crossed

In case of Zombie attack, I have my plan worked out, I'm heading to an Island with seed packets and a goat! Maybe a couple of chickens as well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 119 ✭✭Lexicographer

The photos are great, sorry I missed it.

Now I'm worrying the island will be scarier than the zombies!!!! I'll have to get better at this posting, I keep putting my feet in it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,057 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Ah well, there's your problem, you are not supposed to be typing with your feet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,551 ✭✭✭Rubecula

Personally, if we are attacked by Zombies, I propose we release Chucken onto them. Those that don't run from her soup will be in the next recipe. :D
