Hope he gets better soon! Although, the faceplanting when walking while wearing the cone must be comedy gold :D

Yea the poor bugger had a little mound of soil built up on the bottom of it. Even though it's trimmed to fit and allow him more comfort, I could prob take a bit more off it.

He was reversing round the house earlier getting used to it. Was going to attach flashing lights and a siren as he kept hitting us/walls/doors/chairs/Squeak (who wasn't impressed)
Tonight isn't going to be fun, he hasn't worked out the width of it yet so he scrapes it off the walls as he walks along. Be bringing him out for a wee at 5am I expect, he refuses to use a litter tray.

Doctor strapped up my foot (told me I could go to hospital and probably get a cast or boot :o ) and told me to mind it. It felt much better.
I walk into the dark kitchen and step on something, first thoughts "eek, dead thing cats brought in" jumped and hurt foot again, agony is back and I can't sleep with it now :(

Awww, poor kovu, just saw pic, hope he's better soon.

Hmm, everyone's in the wars currently! Get well soon to all.

No idea what in the hell is going on. Up late as partner was working, and Opie was sound asleep at my feet. When OH got in, I let Opie out for a wee, and then back in and started snarling at me! I was so taken aback, it was a proper snark unlike the growls we might get if he had good. I didn't dare approach him so I let him back outside to see if something was in the garden or if he had hurt himself, but he seems fine.

heehee!! I always go into TKMaxx (no relation :p) for a nose in the pet section if I'm heading for a starbucks treat.. Low and behold an XXL mesh harness for Lucy/Bailey. Sadly they only had one blue one or I would have got two but there was no price so chanced my arm and they charged me the same price as the tiny little one from some other brand - €5.99! Had a look online and they're at least €20 + shipping!

Picked up my first foster kitten yesterday evening, a little 3 month old tortie :-) trying to get a decent pic of her but she won't comply

My tortie girl Ruby has gone missing again, daughter is home tomorrow so I hope she's back tonight!
    She's gone 2 nights

Sorry mymo, but hopefully she'll be back soon safe and sound. How's the foot?

I think she's getting shut in a shed or something, she'll go anywhere after the scent of a rat or mouse. It's the third time and always nice evenings, which makes me think someone's out cutting grass or something and she's getting in a shed. Last time was only 2 days, I tried keeping her in but she screams the house down, attacks everyone, and generally makes everyone's life a misery.
Foot is little better, glad daughter will be home tmrw, she can walk the dogs.
Steve/Henry is off to his new home tomorrow, she has to say goodbye when I pick her up, I'm pretty sure he's off to a great home with a boardsie :)

Wouldn't you just love if there was a viable subdermal GPS for pets? I'm paranoid about checking my shed after a gardening session in case a pet has decided to take a snooze in there, but I do know all the wandering neighbourhood cats and they generally are just passing through.

Yah saw that about Steve/Henry, good work there!

    I can't wait.

Swanson is excited too, he's invented a new game where he throws his leather-mousey toy down the stairs and then runs after it. He needs an additional cat to stand guard at the bottom in case the mousey escapes.

    Well that went well....Not!!

Had a visit from the guide dogs today. Tara didn't like her at all and actually gave her a warning snap! Oops

Thankfully we had already decided it wasn't for us, so Tara helped us out really.

There's no human food at all, no ball play, no up on couches, and the dreaded 'pack' theory was mentioned...

Think we'll look into fostering instead.

race up the stairs only hitting every third step and slide down the banister launcing himself onto the escaping mousey maybe :p

Yeah I know their methods from seeing people in the area with the dogs! Not for me at all - that's why I'd go for DFD because they're just normal puppies. I said before about the couple who were in a state because their guide dog pup picked up a tennis ball like he was doomed for that one thing! (although he did fail!)

    Anyways rant alert.

    Bailey resources guards
Bailey will snap when he's guarding something if you touch him
I know this because he's my dog and I've had the bruises after he's bitten me before I knew better

We had a situation earlier where he was on the river where its just stones and he found a bone. It was 'red alert' - tail flicking and barking at me if I came close. The park was full of kids passing etc so I was worried something would happen. Decide to take him up to a quiet area and try swap for a treat chew which failed because he was too aroused and next plan was to try and lasso him. As I'm going up I see somebody who fancies himself as a bit of an expert with his two dogs. I asked him to keep the dogs on lead until I passed because he had a bone and would snap. Of course he ignores me and lets them off telling the dogs 'Bailey will tell you if you get to close' Anyways I had a few chances where just as I was about to get the lead over his head yer mans dog comes over and Bailey bolts. As he's an expert Bailey's tail flicking was seen as happy go luck wagging so he thought he was having a game with me. My head is melted now. In the end he managed to break the bone and swollowed the 3 shards whole so we have that to wonder about - pass/puke/or rip up his guts. GAH!!!! I love him but sometimes I want to kill him!!

    That sucks Tk123.

Having a really crappy couple of days. Should be all excited as going on hols at weekend. But OH has really bad toothache. He really needs to get it out, but due to health reasons this can only be done in dublin. So he's taking antibiotics and horsing painkillers.
Do all men have really low pain thresholds????

Dogs are off to kennels tomorrow for 2wks, which is also stressing me out as they've never been in for that long before.

YES lol! :p Although I feel his pain! I have to get 2 crowns for my front teeth. Dentist asked if I was ever thinking of whitening because now would be the time to do it before I got the crowns so decided to go for it. THE PAIN!! Now I have sensitive teeth so was expecting it to be sore but it's terrible!

Bold boy puked while I was in the shower there so I don't know if any pieces of the bone back up came up and he maybe ate them again. At least he has the sense to move his head off the bed and pukes on the floor unlike Lucy who just pukes where she is!

    Da dada DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Opie's first night sleeping on the landing on his bed with zero crate. Our stairs are all still there and there are no black holes of doom from tearing a hole in space with his teeth. No running up and down the stairs, no whimpering or crying. We got two barks in the middle of the night when the next door neighbour came home from the pub, but he does that in his crate too :P

    Pray for continued success!

Hmmm. A dilemma for you all- I am pet sitting for the week: 3 dogs plus my own. I don't think the 3 dogs have leads. I've torn the house apart looking for them and can't see them anywhere...owners are away with no means to contact them so I can't ring them to ask.

There's a few nice beaches in the area that I'd love to take them too, but I'm a bit dubious. The dogs are excellently behaved, come when called and ignore everyone around them, clearly very well used to being walked off the lead and never give any hassle, but I just feel better having leads with me even if I don't use them. I've a GSx, a colliex, a jack russellx and a cocker (mine, have a lead for her).

Would ye walk them on a reasonably quiet beach (maybe 5-8 cars parked near) and hope for the best? Am I being overly particular by wishing I had leads?

Raminahobbin not in a MILLION years!!! You know murphys law?!? The one time that you bring the dogs off leash, is the one time that something will go wrong! You would feel worse about something going wrong with the minded dogs, than if it were you own dog! Pop in to Dealz and get 3 leashes for 1.49 each! go root in your shed for some old rope! tie an old belt thru their collars but dont bring them for a walk with no leashes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I brought a friends dog I was babysitting for a walk, it had never been on a leash  in the end it took off, slipping its leash, and chased sheep )

Oh the poor man!!! yes he probably has a really low pain threshold (he is a man) but I know what hes going through - I have an infection in a tooth root - on 3rd antibiotic - not working - the pain for the first 2 weeks nearly drove me insane - on a waiting list to get a root canal at end of august - a waiting list!!! a private dentist!!!! mother of god!!! anyway, pain gone, but tooth still sensitive, and we are off on holidays today too - dog going to friends, cat being cat-sat, hens being hen-sat - all |I need now is the antibiotics to kick in and zap this damned infection!

Good luck to your poor husband - dental pain is the WORST!

    stay safe/well boardsies!!!

I am housesitting too and it's in the absolute middle of nowhere with nothing around, so no leads anywhere unfortunately :( Had a good look for rope too.

What I've been doing since I posted that earlier in the week is only walking them when it looks like it's about to rain/is raining so that I know I'll be the only one there. If it doesn't rain, I leave it until it's nearly high tide when there's only a sliver of beach left, but enough for a 20/30 min walk. There was one day I shared it with 2 other groups of people and their dogs but it was all okay.

To be fair, the dogs are insanely well behaved and well socialised. They ignore everyone else, and only want the stick in my hand so it's easy to move them out of the way if needs be by throwing it. I don't think they'd know what is lead is! I'd be surprised if they've ever been on one- typical country dogs.

So initially I was quite stressed minus the leads, but I'm ok with it now. It's not ideal, and I'd prefer to have them with me at least, but it's all I have for the week.

I really hate people who jump into getting a pet without proper thought:(

My aunt (who works 12hr shifts an hours drive away) has decided to get a kitten. So I asked the usual questions- How in the name of hell are you going to mind it when you're working?? being the main one. ''Oh I'll shut it into the garage and won't you be around to play with it.''

Eh no, I won't. I'm moving to Dublin for college. Never mind that she has an elderly cat of about 18 which is pretty much forgotten about. I do a lot of her care, incl clipping her yesterday as she can't groom any more and matts had built up on her back legs. A groom once a day would have solved that!! (Note- clipping cats is.....interesting.)
This year I had to have two of her cats put down, one required a simple operation as he had an impacted bowel but noooooo, it was too expensive. So muggins here had to go and put an otherwise healthy cat down, the other cat should have been put down ages ago as he had ear cancer and was in a state. Muggins here also had to bury both of them and settle the bill for one.

Bah. Rant over. But if she thinks I'm going to socialise that kitten when I can.......she's probably right  I don't want to see it growing up timid so I'll do it when I'm home.

Sorry Kovu. Have relatives who have a similar laissez faire attitude to pets, I can never understand why they got them in the first place. Congrats about college, hopefully we'll still get Kovu cat updates :)
