Went to Electric last week having had great experiences there so far. Very average this time out, I had the fillet steak which was cooked within an inch of it's life despite me requesting rare. Sent it back and got another which was still well done.

Ordered a Budvar there to which the waiter advised that they were out but had Chieftain which is another beer from a famous Czech brewery, I could hardly contain my laughter :D

had thee absolute worst dining experience of my life in Electric 2 years ago - wrote a post about it then.. terrible food - awful service and bad management.. will never eat there again.. was morto as I brought guests who were visiting - I only went there as work mates were praising it.. I guess it use to be good but it was not on our night and from recent reviews here, not now either

Not to dispute the bad press for Electric but it's not the experience I have ever had there.

I've been in the Fish Bar, the restaurant and the bar for brunch over the last, say, 2-3 months, and each experience was great.

Only bad point I've ever really said about the place is that I once ordered a side and it wasn't brought out with the meal. Annoying for sure, but that's the extent of it.

Hope the place isn't going down the tubes as I really like it!!

Another donut and ice cream place opening on Daunt Square today. Apparently there will be 7 donuts shops in the city before the end of the summer. Up to 4 now

Slight overkill. Blackpool shopping center could take a Burrito and Donut place. Lot of hungry shoppers and office people.
The one in Thomas Davis street was too far away for that. No parking too, but very good Buritos.

I manage a shop in the centre and that is a common complaint there is absolutely nothing to eat out there.

The Forge cafe do nice soup and sandwiches for very reasonable prices. I think €6.50 for soup, sandwich and tea/coffee? Could be totally wrong though. Also there's a lovely cafe in the village, can't remember the name for some reason. Just by the church. Nice dinner specials every day and good soup and sandwiches too. Would love one or two more options though around the place.

Eco's in Douglas for dinner last night.....
....I asked to see the kids menu and the waiter did say they didnt allow adults eat off the kids menu (fair enough) but then offer half portions of the food coz its a total waste of food.

I never eat in Eco, I find the place revolting, but the above stood out of your review. Why on earth would they not allow this?!

I know people who go in there purely for dessert after a meal elsewhere, and surely you can just get a starter if you don't want a full meal, so it can't be a minimum charge thing.

i only do it because i know some places with massive portions and i used to be super fat (like documentary sized fat) dropped the weight so now ask in some places if there is a kids menu, some places have no problem giving you a kids pizza or a half portion of a full mains, their starters didnt interest me but i had seen they do a mini burger on the kids menu (two sliders) that would have suited me way better.
just hate the waste of food and money.
i dont understand why they dont offer half portions, they must have massive food waste... four tables around us and there was mountains of food taken away.

He's got a valid point thou, the street wins an award for its individuality, then Nero pops up instantly.

To be honest I like Idaho and go there frequently but I hate when he gets up on his Clydesdale.

Kirby's in Ballinhassig do half portions, even for adults.

Anywhere should be able to do half portions unless its a steak/chicken breast ect! Idiotic idea.
I do quite like the beef tips in Eco's though

They do, they also do some of the best food this side of the county IMO.

I know exactly what you mean, and agree wholeheartedly. The portions in there are absolutely crazy, and offputting for me too. But, they are busy, so the people must love it.

Does anyone know if Thady Inn are open for lunch on a Sunday and, if so, what time? Also, do I need to book?
Not answering the phone at 12.00:confused::confused:

Let us know how you got on. I think they are open for lunch, but I do remember kids weren't allowed in there after 4pm on a Weekend.

Couldn't get an answer on the phone right up to one o clock so ended up going to Sage in Midleton which was really lovely.

Was in Lishh Saturday morning, very friendly staff and a great selection of food and cakes......my god the cakes! :P

Met a few friends there for lunch last week, everyone was happy with the food. Two of them had dropped their kids in that estate many times & never realised that Lissh was a cafe!

I didn't either! I thought it was just the catering component they kept going after they moved from Turner's Cross. Must try it again some time.

Actually I have found a photo or two of the menu etc from the first time I visited there 4 years ago.

    The opening hours on a Sunday are 4pm to 11pm. Otherwise 10.30am to 11.30pm (12.30pm on Fri/Sat)

    Poor enough experience in Gallaghers.

Arrived in about 5 for a drink, and maybe a bite to eat. Immediately put under pressure by a staff member about whether I was eating or not.

Was given a menu and a table but told the table needed to be vacated in an hour!

Ended up deciding against food and went to the bar for a drink. Waited about 5 mins before being looked at by the 3 staff. Then another 5 mins to get the drinks.

Had the drink and left. Wouldn't be bothered going back.

Eco's in Douglas for dinner last night.
Has been about 2 years since i was there last and every time i go there i'm reminded of why its not for me.
so squished, so loud, such massive portions, like off putting amounts of food... (thats just a personal preference i hate feeling like im eating out of a trough)
Service is good, fast and snappy but but good, waiter who served the table was friendly and engaging,
Starters we shared garlic breads they come with pesto and cheese, nothing to write home about but not not good if you get me.
Mains we had: a beef madras, the Eco burger and  chicken satay.
sweet jesus lads the madras and satay were the biggest things ive ever seen in my life, they could half the portion and you would still be taking it home.
My burger was manky. dry on the inside but the bun was greasy and meat overcooked. Chips were lovely
Madras and satay were tasty but one full time giant farmer man couldnt finish his curry (not like him at all) and half the satay was left behind.
The foods not bad (its not great but its not bad), the service is great, the place is loud and cramped, but it is good value for money and if your not overly fussed about quality and taste it is good.
The one suggestion i would make is its great for a feed, if thats what your looking for. I do hate massive portion and this was overkill. A giant serving bowl/plate of curry then a separate bowl of rice is unnecessary.  I asked to see the kids menu and the waiter did say they didnt allow adults eat off the kids menu (fair enough) but then offer half portions of the food coz its a total waste of food. Prices are good for what you get 15 euro for the curry and satay 14 for the burger. Sides are really good and deserts! amazing! try the banoffi pie!

I wonder would they let 2 adults share a meal? I always ask for a doggy bag if there's a lot of food left.
