I really want to get into non-alcohol focused socialising now because my depression is getting worse and I'd absolutely love to just hang out with friends, have a night in watching movies or playing board games. It seems that doesn't happen anymore - once you reach 18 you have to do the pub/club thing.

And to be honest, I did love it and I've had great drunken nights but now I'm sick of it.

I was never someone who needed a relationship or was even really in to going off chasing guys. But now I'm really lonely and would love a bf or gf.

Has anyone any ideas how to meet people who aren't just into the drunken socialising?

You could try the straight edge scene? Non-drinkers, non-drug users. Unfortunately they like punk music, but if you can stand that there might be possibilities there. I don't actually know where you might find them IRL though, which is a problem.

To the person who mentioned heroquest - I <3 that game. Used to play it with family when I was younger. Pretty sure we made up half the rules though!

There's definitely a hint of the "getting locked and making a tit of yourself in a nightclub" = "cool" and "having a night spent talking, eating and drinking with good friends <and insert board game of choice or bike ride here>" = "lame" or "for old people".

True and its false. I joined an adult acting class recently, very recent and that was the most fun night I have had since I was a kid. There was no drink involved, I met fun and interesting people and I was buzzing afterwards. I expereinced a natural, chemical free high. I haven't had that for a long time. I was never one to join stuff but in the last six to twelve months I have started joining stuff that interests me (in my case writing and arts related stuff) and I get such a buzz from them. A night out getting pissed or even at home getting pissed isn't fun anymore and the feeling like crap the next day.

I would urge everyone to join stuff, I know its not easy, I can be very shy, very nervous, I usually go to stuff and give out ****e to myself saying why am I going to this place when I know nobody but I was come out feeling better about myself. Just take the plunge and go for stuff.
