Hard to know the thinking somewhat; maybe mgmt feel he offers something different than Mannion/Burke/Flynn/Cooney x 2 who are all very good but perhaps ever so slightly identikit. Maybe they think Glynn's power might boss the W'ford defence around a bit and unsettle it more. In fairness to big Jonny, he's not a more skillful player than all of the others above.

    He's more consistent.

Tbh between Flynn/Mannion and Burke you're looking at possibly two below par performances a lot of the time..
We can't afford to have two of those three to start and have a poor game.

You could nearly say J.Cooney is another... but by and large since 2016 he's been consistent.

So we really only have three who'll normally perform well, a fourth who is lately and the last two are completely hit and miss.

I really felt lately we needed Glynn to start.

Don't worry about holding players back... the day Real Madrid leave Ronaldo on the bench is the day I'll agree with that notion.

You can't win a game in 35mins, but you can lose one.

Who said Glynn is starting ???. Paper never refused ink. One team named another could start

Makes sense if he's in the FF line to bypass their sweeper. I'm not sure having him as a primary ball winner from puck outs will work against a swarmed Waterford half back line. Every player from 40-70 yards out will need to be comfortable taking scores and that not Glynn. FF line would save his legs a bit too, a few have remarked he looked quite gassed towards the end of his cameo the last day. Certainly an interesting move, could be very positive.

Glynn is the right man to start great ball winner badly missed last year.Flynn and Burke will be called on at some stage of the game,Waterford probably not surprised by him starting Cork had no real ball winner in the semi and still had the chance of winning it sending off changed all that.
I'm delighted he is starting it's a big statement of intent from management.

Johnny Glynn supposedly tore up trees in an A v B game last week marking McInerney and that's what has got him his start. He tore Cork asunder a few years back in the first half and management probably feel if they get his ball winning, direct running at goal style of play for 45mins then it would be huge. He came back from New York 6kg lighter end of July than for the league final. If he runs out of steam then replace him with Flynn. It is a very clever selection by O'Donoghue as J Glynn and J Cooney will be towering over the Waterford wing backs for puck outs. Cant wait now, going to be epic!

Think Donohue missed a trick by naming Glynn in his team lastnight. Would have been lot more unsettling for Waterford if made change just before throw in. Whilst they would have planned for him to be on at some stage it could unsettle them just a bit.

    Didn't forsee this post happening....

I've had to downgrade from premium to Lower Davin(got a financial sweetener and the ticket was needed to try get two more :-(......)

If anyone wants to swop an upper ticket(or any obviously) for that let me know.

I'd rather be upper Davin than lower.

I'll try to get one up there and sell the Davin as things stand.

I'd like have seen him held in reserve. Its hard stop a big man when you're both fresh. Stopping a fresh big man when you're tired is near impossible.

I'd agree with Hulk hands that ff would be the spot for him too. Short puck out to our wing backs and bypass the sweeper entirely

That's all well and good. But, Galway are favourites and strong favourites - have been knocking on the door longer.
Waterford don't make finals too often - the last didn't go well. Waterford have been making Munster finals regularly but they haven't won one since 2010... - since then, there have been a few hidings in those Munster finals. Waterford were beaten first time out - Galway have been winning every thing this year. So the form dictates that Galway are red hot faves - that brings its own pressure. So, in that sense, it is Galway's to lose. They haven't had a chance as good as this in a long long time. That's obvious. Time to deliver

Those two goals were criminal. Can't give those away and expect to win.

Coen and Hanbury our best so far defensively. Canning and Joe Cooney very good too imo.

Congrats lads. Disappointed for Waterford considering their long wait but the best team definitely won.

Delighted for Canning. What a soldier.
