I kinda agree with you, but it has been changed in DS2 and completely changed in BloodBourne.

It's very disheartening for new players to reach the end of the undead burg with starter gear only to be invaded by a sadist with a +5 lightning bastard sword who kills them in one hit. Where's the skill in that?

TBH, I actually thought thats how it was supposed to be - that you'd experience a further moment of terror when it pops up on screen "you have been invaded"

No they changed the matchmaking system for DS2 so it wasn't possible anymore, you should always have a fighting chance in an invasion imo. Having said that, I think the twinking was a small price to pay compared to how soul memory ended up affecting PvP in the second game.

I never felt like I got invaded enough in any of the Souls games tbh.

I hear ppl complaining about it happening non-stop in areas and stopping them completing said areas but never experiences it sufficiently for that to be a problem.

Maybe in Blighttown. The thrill of a good invasion is well worth it for me though.

Its an amazing game, that even after a playthrough, there so much I still dont understand. I reckon I played 95% of the game in a hollow state - normally only using humanity to level up the bonfires, so I think I was only invaded 3 times in total.

Are there any other reasons to turn human?

When the game was released, invasions happened everywhere quite regularly but it seems to happen in some areas only now... the burg, the forest, anor londo and the kiln.

Did you play the games on release when the populations were at their peak? I was a latecomer to the first game but there still seemed to be a healthy amount of people online, never got to the point where invasions were a pain for me though (borderline in the forest), if anything there wasn't enough.

Second game I played as soon as it came out and invasions and that were rampant but again never to the point where I wanted to play offline, I think the games come into their own when there's lots of people online and the invasions/co-op are in full flow. The online aspects are one of the things that make the games so unique and brilliant.

Well, I played it non-stop from release for two months so I am talking about that period.

Co-Op and invasions are the main reason really, there is also a weapon that scales on humanity though that still works when hollow. Did you join any of the covenants? They're the best thing about the game.

anytime I met someone who asked did I want to join a covenant, I happily agreed, but didnt have the foggiest what to do with each one. I did level up the chaos one as I was trying to save solaire (was unsuccessful). I didn't use any magic at all throughout my playthrough either - my stats were too one sided to try and multitask.

I didn't use magic either, my character was pure Dex so it was katanas all the way. I did have a pyro glove for backup though of course. You should look up the covenants on the wikis, some are pure co-op based like the Sun covenant and then theres others that centre around invasions.

My personal favourite was in the second game where there are two covenants Way of the Blue (I think) and the Blue Sentinels, basically if a Way of the Blue member is invaded a Blue Sentinel gets summoned to their world to try and protect them.

I'm really tempted to start a NG+ , something I'd never do in games normally, but I find that I cant stop thinking about Dark Souls lately!. is it possible to join those covenants now and still meet people, or have I levelled myself above being useful? (I was level 94 when I finally beat gwyn).

lvl 120 is generally where everyone stops if I recall correctly, it was kind of an agreed upon level by the community to keep PvP interesting as people would have to specialise their builds to particular play styles. You can invade/help people 10% above and below your level I think, whether there'll be many around I'm not sure.

Another option is just to cave and get Dark Souls II for the XB1 and play it while the population is high ;)

I'm tempted, and only last week I had decided to go for it, but something is holding me back from making the purchase. There seems to be a bit of chatter that its been made a lot harder by the new enemy placements - sometimes unfairly so.

Gonna do a fresh install of this. Never really got around to playing it.

What do I need to do? Patches and general advice.

Heh, I tired once before. What a nightmare. I have a 360 pad, yeah. Off to a land of wonderful suffering then.

Well have a go at configuring DSFix for your system. Its nothing complicated, change what you understand. He's got instructions in the file as you go along

Most people I've spoken to about the new version have said it's just lots of new hollows dotted around the maps in blind corners and cheap spots

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,182 ✭✭✭Genghiz Cohen

Ok, so I got talking to a friend while playing and he pointed out where I went wrong the last time. Do NOT head down into the skellington filled graveyard. Head up instead. Having a much better time now. Very nearly beat that Taurus Demon jerk too. Will get him tonight

Would it be mean to write "fatty ahead" outside my local gym ?

This can only mean clusters of "be wary of toxic but hole" outside burrito joints.

Just finished Bloodborne so decided to give this a bash again on the 360 having abandoned it in frustration a couple of years ago. Booted it up last night and I don't know if I can get past the graphics really, they seem so dated! Is the Pc version much better visually or will I get used to it?

Keep at it, after a few hours, you'll be under its spell and you won't even notice it.

Ok so I'm really getting into this and have just arrrived in Blightown, at first bonfire. I have the drake, and mainly using a halberd at plus 6. What can I do with my second ember if I give it to blacksmith? Is it so I can add an element to my halberd?

Any embers you find just give to whichever blacksmith will take them. Which one do you have? My memory is a bit hazy but I think they usually unlock the ability to upgrade a weapon past a certain level or enchant/upgrade elemental weapons.
