    Sheepherders ... I CHOOSE YOU!

    thesheppards.jpg

from 411mania: Understand this: the Sheepherders are not the Bushwhackers. It's still Butch Miller and Luke Williams, but you couldn't have two more vastly different styles. The Bushwhackers licked people, the Sheepherders bled them dry. They ransacked through territories, collecting 19 different championships through two decades. They gained notoriety in the Pacific Northwest and became legendary in Bill Watts' UWF. They took no prisoners, and were the tag team equivalent of The Sheik. They drew blood by any means possible and made a living by being the heels that messed up the faces of the pretty boy tag teams. They became more well-known as the Bushwhackers towards the end of their careers, but their wrestling legacy will be as the Sheepherders

My pick is going down a route that served me well last year. I chose a manager with plenty of charisma as my GM. This year, New World Wrestling is pleased to announce that the General Manager of NWW Volt will be none other than Captain Lou Albano.

For those of you unfamiliar with him, watch some of his videos. His voice is so distinctive and I am confident his charisma as 'Captain' of the show rather than Commissioner or GM will suit the show well.

For my pick I'm taking a true innovator of the business, a guy that ulk Hogan wished he could be. A supreme talker, one of the first great larger than life figures of the business, we was years ahead of his time. He is a Hall of Famer and respected enough to have his own WWE book and DVD dedicated to him......

To say that Superstar Graham stood out from the rest would be, well, a monumental understatement! He possessed a physique that, in 1975, was simply not seen in professional wresting. With muscles stacked on top of muscles, he appeared invincible. And if you didn’t believe that by just looking at him, you surely did once you heard him talk! With a “rap” that conjured up comparisons with Muhammad Ali’s best work in front of a microphone, Graham would keep you glued to your seat to hear what sensationalism would come out of his mouth next. And he never disappointed.

"I'm the man of the hour, the man with the power, too sweet to be sour. The women's pet, the men's regret. What you see is what you get. And what you don't see is better yet."

    651191945191.jpg

I only realised how good a talker this guy was the last few days. Up there with Dusty IMHO. Hogan eat your heart out. They don't make them like this anymore.

He should've had a run as a heel champ back in the day, up there with DiBiase as another who's hugely underrated.

    Team Flah:

    1. Shawn Michaels
    2. "The Million Dollar" Man Ted Dibiase
    3. Stan Hansen
    4. The Road Warriors
    5. The Dudley Boyz
    6. El Santo
    7. Gory Guerrero
    8. El Hijo Del Santo
    9. Finlay,
    10. Masahiro Chono,
    11. Marty Jannetty
    12. Konnan
    13. "Superstar" Billy Graham

My pick for this pre-1970 round is going to be one of the greatest old-school tag teams, who won the NWA Tag Titles 8 times. One of the members of this team is also famous for being an original member of the Four Horsemen. I give to you 'The Minnesota Wrecking Crew' - Gene and Ole Anderson.

    13.jpg

To give you an example of how great this team were, some of the teams they beat for the titles include Ric Flair and Greg Valentine as well as Dusty Rhodes and Dick Slater.

As regards Ole, I have been looking at some of Ole Anderson's promo work the past week or so and my goodness was he good. He could also back it up in the ring and was a rough, tough, stiff wrestler who will fit in very nicely on my roster. Here he is from around the time when Luger was being positioned to replace him in the Horsemen, talking about how he and Gene were original Horsemen (wrestling historians wouldn't agree with that but it's a fascinating one - skip to a minute in):

As regards Gene Anderson, he retired in '81 but supposedly Ole said he was the toughest guy he knew. He was an accomplished wrestler in his own right and a legit tough man. Here is a rare 6 minute match of his here. :

These two guys will be fantastic additions to my roster and fit the 'rasslin style perfectly. I can have these guys as a formidable tag team unit or position Ole as a top heel (which is what I intend to do initially).

Here's one more clip of Ole Anderson's big heel turn in 1980. This is heat right here:

And here are some of this team's accomplishments:
    Gene Anderson accomplishments

    Georgia Championship Wrestling
NWA Georgia Southern Tag Team Championship (2 times) - with Lars Anderson [8]
NWA Georgia Tag Team Championship (7 times) - with Ole Anderson[9]
NWA Georgia Television Championship (1 time)[10]
NWA Macon Tag Team Championship (1 time) - with Ole Anderson
NWA Southeastern Tag Team Championship (Georgia version) (1 time) - with Ole Anderson[11]
NWA World Tag Team Championship (Georgia Version) (1 time) - with Lars Anderson

    Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling
NWA Atlantic Coast Tag Team Championship (4 times) - with Ole Anderson
NWA Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Championship (3 times) - with Ole Anderson [12]
NWA World Tag Team Championship (Mid-Atlantic version) (7 times) - with Ole Anderson

    Pro Wrestling Illustrated
PWI Tag Team of the Year (1975, 1977) with Ole Anderson
PWI ranked him # 60 of the 100 best tag teams during the "PWI Years" with Ivan Koloff in 2003 .

We're almost 4/5 of the way through the Draft phase of the game with SlickRic still to pick to finish this round off.

Reminder at this late stage that rosters can't have more than 5 tag teams (teams picked for you in Rd 9 don't count in the limit) so be careful about that.

Right then here is the draw for Round 12 which is a normal round...

    Round 12 Draw:

    1. campo
    2. Teamshadowclan
    3. Thebostoncrab
    4. JP Liz
    5. Mr Nice Guy
    6. flahavaj
    7. Furious Red
    8. Bounty Hunter
    9. Bubs102
    10. waltersobchak
    11. Diabhal Beag
    12. Voltwad
    13. Dare 2 Defy
    14. CMPunked
    15. Spongey1975
    16. Cactus Colm
    17. D.Q.
    18. SlickRic
    19. Gerard.C
    20. glenjamin

So then, SlickRic will pick to finish off Round 11 and then campo will get Round 12 started. Good luck and happy pickings.

with my Main Event pretty much sorted, i hmmmed and hawed over this pick for a while, and i'll explain why.

did i want to go for a guy who i have seen in the flesh, doesn't quite have the same legend about him, i know quite well from his work, but doesn't fit in totally with what i want to do...or do i pick a guy who i've read absolute tons about, seen sporadic clips (because he was around during the first Golden Age of Wrestling in the 50s) of but from what i know, would fit my plans absolutely perfectly...??

This is Muhammad Ali's take on him (yes, Muhammad Ali!)...straight from Wiki, but i'd heard about it before...
A 19-year old Ali met a 46-year old George at a Las Vegas radio station. During George's radio interview, the wrestler's promo caught the attention of the future heavyweight champion. If George lost to Classy Freddie Blassie, George exclaimed, "I'll crawl across the ring and cut my hair off! But that's not gonna happen because I'm the greatest wrestler in the world!"

Ali recalled, "I saw 15,000 people comin' to see this man get beat. And his talking did it. I said, 'This is a gooood idea!'" In the locker room afterward, the seasoned wrestler gave the future legend some invaluable advice: "A lot of people will pay to see someone shut your mouth. So keep on bragging, keep on sassing and always be outrageous."

    Bob Dylan...
In Dylan's book The Chronicles: Volume One, Dylan recounts a story of meeting Gorgeous George in person. He wrote, "He winked and seemed to mouth the phrase, `You're making it come alive.' I never forgot it. It was all the recognition and encouragement I would need for years."

    James Brown...
James Brown said he used many of Gorgeous George's antics to "create the James Brown you see on stage"

this man was not just a wrestler, or a sports entertainer, he was an icon, and helped influence the careers of some of the subsequent icons of the 20th Century.
    Gorgeous George

back in those times, for the general public to see a man exhibit such effeminate and outrageous behaviour was absolutely unheard of, and with the fact television was fast becoming THE medium, he quickly became pretty much the biggest draw of the time, as people would come from miles around just to vent their anger and ridicule him.

he'd dye his hair blonde, wore sequins, and put his hair up in pins (which he publically called 'Georgie Pins' - i'd heckle him just for that), and would saunter down the aisle with a valet called Jeffries, who would spray the hands of the officials before a match, because he didn't want to be touched by him. he was pretty much an early archetype of the JBL or Alberto del Rio personas we see today.

he was the cowardly heel, cheating at every given opportunity...this coupled with his controversial extravagant persona, made him the most hated villain of his time.

    his famous catchphrase...
Win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat

although i haven't seen much of him; i've seen enough clips, pictures, and read enough, to know that the man was a genius; an accomplished amateur wrestler, and a hot-bed of charisma who could play the crowd like a flute, garnering outrageous heat.

he blazed a trail, bringing the sport into the living rooms of millions. Before him, it was purely about the ring action - the wrestling - George was the man who changed the course and help fuse it with entertainment.

the man, the legend, the innovator...

Fusion Pro Wrestling caught up with Samoa Joe, Colt Cabana and the two masked men who stood with them against The Four Horsemen at the end of last weeks show. We pride ourselves on having an honest roster, and needed to let the fans know who these two men are.

"We don't know why Dusty joined the Four Horsemen, and we couldn't see that coming. But we knew that Benoit would reveal his forth Horseman tonight, so I looked to the past, and found two men who know how to take down this new form of The Four Horsemen. Who better to help take down this group, than two members of The Four Horsemen? Sorry, I mean, The Extreme Horsemen."

Steve Corino and CW Anderson took off their masks and revealed themselves to not only be the men helping in the battle against The Four Horsemen, but the two latest members of the Fusion Pro Wrestling Roster.

The Extreme Horsemen, Steve Corino and CW Anderson.

I've searched and searched again to see if this team have gone and I don't think they have which surprises me greatly. In my opinion they are a very underrated tag team from one of the WWE's golden era of tag wrestling in the late eighties. They never held the gold themselves but one half of the duo went on to hold it three times with the Quebecers and was also an Intercontinental Champion. I'm talking of course about...The Fabulous Rougeaus.

They also possess one of the greatest themes ever imo:

Jacques went on to become The Mountie and was a very entertaining character in his own right, defeating Bret Hart for the IC title for a very short reign. The Mountie always gets his man!

I think these guys would get over in any era. They are very entertaining, solid hands in the ring and were the kind of guys that the southern American fans loved to despise. They'll be great additions to my roster.

    MNG roster thus far:

    1. Triple H
    2. Christian
    3. The New Age Outlaws - Road Dogg & Billy Gunn
    4. Bruiser Brody
    5. Jumbo Tsuruta
    6. Big Van Vader
    7. Magnum T.A. & Hacksaw Jim Duggan
    8. Barry Windham
    9. The Nasty Boys
    10. Jim Cornette
    11. Gene and Ole Anderson - 'The Minnesota Wrecking Crew'
    12. Raymond & Jacques - The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers
