I did see it on some Facebook page and it was just the normal small packet of bisto for home use. It had a green stripe on the normal red background, also there was packets of gluten free paxo stuffing. I'm close enough to northern Ireland so I'll be keeping an eye out in there for it too

I haven't tasted Bisto in almost 20 years. What wouldn't I give to find a pack of it gluten free!

I've seen it on FB pages, but not in shops yet.
That said, it would take a lot to turn me from Knorr Savoury Gravy. Any left in the jug .. I drink it! Yeah you read that right :D

can be made with rice flour, just making the roux in normal way, rice flour and butter, then the stock or juices from roasting tin, should do the trick

Yep, aware of that, but don't do many roasts any more. Bisto, and the like, was invented for people like me! :D

I have been enjoying the Aldi own brand GF pizza for about year but now they seem to have disappeared. I will be upset if this is a permanent change.

For Mexican? I'd just make my own tbh. It's so easy. Tin of tomatoes, some herbs and spices etc..

For Indian/Thai? All of the Pataks curry sauces (jars, pastes etc) are GF.

A lot of Dunnes own sauces are GF - just check the label, or the foodbook from the Coeliac Society.

Yes there is new one but it is quite different and a bit bigger. I tried the Lidl one this week ( only a pepperoni one available) and still prefer the Aldi original one under Carlos label.

I once got a packet of mix to make a pizza base and that was good but do not see them for sale anymore. I think it was called Isabel and pkt was enough for two pizzas.

Here is a few other options, the last option I have seen sold in other places at a cheaper price

Here I see Marks & Spencers and Tesco are stocking their own branded of gluten free Christmas Cakes , Mince Pies , Christmas Puddings.....is there any other stores stocking similar products ?

    Any response appreciated

    Hi All,

Sorry if this is off-topic. My dad is coeliac and I want to make him a gluten free Christmas Hamper. He loves the novelty of finding new delicious products that he hasn't had yet. He also loves experimenting with various ingredients and has all sorts of different flours (potato, rice, almond, coconut, dove gf, tritamyl etc). He regularly bakes cakes and biscuits. I'd love to source some harder to find or new products. He lives in the country and has access to all the mainstream supermarket chains. I'm in Dublin so I'd be able to pick up things from more specialist shops.

I'd love some recommendations and ideas.

Nice idea. Try Holland & Barrett for the harder to find flours.
Does he like beer? There are loads of GF beers, stouts, ales etc out there now, some of which he may not have tried.
There's a pop up GF shop in Royal Hibernian Way which might be useful for picking up a few foodie items. It's called Un-Glu'd. Beside the big Christmas tree in the arcade.

Yes, beer is a great idea. He doesn't usually get gf beer but it'd be nice for something different over Christmas. I'm definitely going to check out that GF shop. Hadn't heard about it before. Thanks for that!

Something from M&S maybe would be nice.

You could go a bit further and get something from the British stores up North like Asda or Morrisons. They might have more choice too.

Thanks Bluewolf. I'll definitely be going and checking out all the big supermarket chains. I guess what I'm really looking for is specific recommendations for things people have tried and really liked or different ingredients that may be harder to source. He loves trying out new things and would buy all that sort of stuff when he sees it in the supermarkets anyway so I'm trying to come up with things he may not stumble upon himself.

Oh i will also second M&S just because their chocolate fudge cake is the nicest in the universe

  • Registered Users Posts: 47 Couch Potatoette

Right, definitely going to get the chocolate fudge cake! He rarely goes to M&S so that would definitely be a treat.

M&S is great though. Not only is their Free From range excellent, but a lot of their regular stock is GF, and marked accordingly, you just have to check.

For example, all of M&S Sausages are GF, and they make a nice change from your Denny, or Clonakilty etc..

They'll have a Gluten Free chilled section, and a Gluten Free shelf section.
Then just check the other areas for items marked GF also.

I'm quite partial to their scotch eggs!

I love that Boule, however, I stopped buying it as it has risen in price a lot.

Just discovered M and S puff pastry quiche (bacon/egg) in pack of two :)

I dont go often and note now that chilled GF items are now grouped together.
