I like the brooding corner as in. Makes me feel like Batman.
I like the way it's just for harumphing, as opposed to serious business.

    Feedback: MOAR costumes..

    But i dont brood much.

A seperate thread seems excessive and silly.

TBC was created in response to mod requests not to bring down the happy mood in The Lair. The Lair is basically the place to share happy business, whereas TBC is for serious business. ;) Plus, having a thread dedicated to moodyness kind of fits into the M.O. of the forum. It reminds you of where you are i.e. The Noc Forum instead of being just another generic social forum.

But then we're at the alt -v- vanilla argument again, so yeah, more opinions on this are welcome. :)

Maybe im just asking for clarification in thread titles on what they are for.

The Brooding Corner and the Lair are probably the coolest themed thread titles on boards, but people HAVE to pay careful attention to all of the charter when they first visit to get what they are for.

Some people like to see a thread title and dive in. Perhaps im one of these people and thats why im looking at it from that perspective.

I like the Brooding Corner, the thread as well as the name.
I can go whinge in it if I like. :)

(I might go whinge in it now!)

I just wanted to second this. I love that the kind of AH humour doesn't go on in here. So, thank you all for being awesome I suppose. :)

Both of those threads explain in the first post what they're for (at least they should. If they don't they could be edited so they do). So, if people would just read the first post before they dive into posting I think that would help. The mods could just put a 'read 1st post' in the thread title then?

Also, Liah, thanks for your input. All input is welcome so don't feel you're intruding in any way.

That is a really good suggestion....and for those of us who have been here a while it would seem to solve the problem.

Ill shut up now after this, but im just thinking - you come into a forum and wham! - everything is easy to get and there is no flipping through indices (index's) or charters....you instantly know whats what and wheres what.

Im not saying what i want to say properly...

...maybe im saying if we want new users, apart from the new threads and renewed (hopefully) interest from old posters, we need to make the forum more 'new user' friendly.

Im so impressed with the uptake in interest from some of the more established posters surrounding this thread, but 'stop only saying hai in the Lair' and 'make more threads' are common sense. I would hope we would look at more dynamic changes in the way we do things....i think everyone so far agrees some changes need to happen.

'you instantly know whats what and wheres what'

This is exactly what we need. We need to make the forum more inviting to new posters somehow and less daunting... I'm just not sure how we go about that though.

Having plenty of threads on a range of subjects is good way to start.

Personally speaking, anytime I end up in a forum I haven't seen before, the first page of threads is usually a good indicator of what the forum is about.

If you can read this, you're too close!

I'd say a seperate thread for all sorts of emotions/lighter posts and keep TBC for advice or just chatting about the glum stuff.
TBC is much more than a rant thread imo.. its good to talk stuff out thats upsetting you and TBC fills that, whereas perhaps another thread simply for "waht made you feel whtever today" could be lighter with a space for simple rants.

I've no problem copying in descriptions to first posts on threads :) I'm just skeptical that a majority of new folk would read it. same with charters :P
Also, long thread titles (imo as a user) look meh. It would kinda be dumbing things way down and uglifying the forum, but as i said, thats just my opinion and if the users want it i'm more than happy to oblige.

Pter is working on updating the index and i encourage ye to help him or give suggestions. I quite like the idea of the index afaik no/not many forums have one. In the beggining it was FC doing alot of the work suggesting things to go in it and highlighting stuff, Its a big undertaking on its own, so all help (either to Pter or by way of on thread suggestions) is appreciated.

I havent read this its to long and well snore..

my opinion is we became to social outside of the fourm, real life things got in the way clicks formed because of it , people who didnt come to the meet-ups felt left out , people who did drama happened... some fell out , some didnt get along... blah blah blah

I post an odd time now, mainly just to nose at Koths music suggestions in the music thread, cause he is educating me on music !ha

It's true, you said what I alluded to earlier on but didn't have the bottle to actually say it. But I think it's something we must all share part of the blame in. When it comes to social forums it was always something that had a high probability of happening.

Ok...read through it all, some excellent suggestions folks! :)

When I first signed up to boards this forum was the one to take me in and look after me :p Plus it was my very first beers, made a point of that as I love the place.

Use to be very nocturnal and constantly posting here but college did begin to get in the way of my Boards life around exam times. Then I was away all summer and had no internet access at all!! Plus after a few months of being mostly on the Noc forum I eventually started checking out other forums which most new folks do at some stage. Always dropped back in to check here but it did seem to go downhill quite quickly.

As for this whole alt and vanilla thing...maybe I need new glasses or something but I've never heard that reference until now. Don't think I'm alt at all...DooM/Pter/Lizzy .....or any of the rest of ye that I have met would never class me as alt. Probably class me as annoyingly happy and chirpy but no matter what I've always felt welcomed! :D

With the whole social thing making things messy at times...well that's bound to happen but it aint the forums fault (or any forums fault for that matter). It's the peoples fault themselves so they shouldn't make the forum suffer just because they have fallen out with someone. If folks can understand what I mean, not meaning that in any bad/offensive way but it's the way I see it. I don't like a poster on another forum but not going to stop posting there just because they are there too...
What I liked about here is the idea of not just beers, there has been stand up comedy nights and cinema trips too. Throw in a bowling night maybe! :pac::p

Can't really top any of the suggestions here but if I think of anything will throw it up.

Wouldn't be the best thread starter either but I'll help contribute to any ones that are started :)

Will leave it there for now!

Best example I can give you TT is that when one says alt in this forum it just means that someone has a lot of nocturnal themed interests. I mean I if take myself as an example, I love vampires, batman and horror. That's what I mean by nocturnal themed interests. :) Very true on everything you said btw. :)

Exactly. I don't really buy any of the 'we got too social in real life' stuff. Isn't that the point of a social forum? People are always going to have differences/disagreements but you can't throw your toys out of the pram every time you're not getting along with someone.

As Toni said, I don't mean that in an offensive way but it's the only way I can see it really.

I concur....but then, as with life, these things are probably down to a combo of factors. Perhaps it played a part. Also having said that, i dont think there are too many who have left the forum outright, despite any personal differences. People may have just adjusted their posting patterns.

    God im boring.

I thought the nocturnal form was a nocturnal form not a social form...

Thats just my opinion and as you are aware some people do think the same as me.

I havent stopped posting here just cause I dont like certain people, I stopped posting here for a few things, one cause if you dont go to these meets there is very little to talk about. If I stopped doing stuff cause I didnt like people and threw my toys out of the pram so to speak, Id have to permanently stay inside my house.

This whole ALT thing is correct to... it has an air of pretentiousness about it lately... and it bores me

If this is a social forum then the name needs to change... cause it sure as hell isnt a nocturnal form..

    peace

Don't think anybody was directing that towards you personally emo just in case you thought they were!

Nocturnal forum is a social forum...there have always been meet ups of some sorts going on if that's what is meant by social forum. Same with TLL/TGC/Motors/most forums on boards. They all have their core subject matters and stuff but the majority of them all still meet up so in my view they all social forums as such.

As with any meet up there will always be a buzz before and after for awhile. Know I didn't make it to few things organised but I didn't feel left out as well couldn't be helped when I live so far away.

It hasn't been nocturnal now for good while but I think this feedback thread has been long overdue and a kick in the bum(:pac:) so to speak for us to address issues and concerns.

Oh one suggestion I could make then for people who maybe are far away/can't make it to nights out.... We could organise a night "IN" on the forum where the majority of folks would be online and available to chat....have a few drinks in their own house if they want while chatting :P Just a thought!

    I'm up for that.

    Just two points-

this is a social forum, has been since day one. its even said it in the charter for the last, year and 3/4s? i dunno, i cant remember how long the thingy was last updated, but even before that it was. :)

" it is important to note that this is a Social Forum..."
"We feel fairly lenient since this is a social forum..."
"This is a social forum. Things are more laid back here and topics can be numerous." etc etc.

Fair point, some people mightn't get it. But does that mean BGRH would have to change its name for some people who didn't get it?

I came up with this idea, Doom supported and expanded it with me and Kharn gave it life. thats our creation myth :P
Its always been a social forum, even before we knew the term. Its a social forum with a loose theme.

Noted, we may need people to start more threads to bolster that, but thats hardly anyones fault :)

god, everything becomes wall o text when i finally post :P

    The beers:
I kinda get whats been said about the beers, but i haven't gone to one in ages. I also havent posted properly in ages before this, even if i was lurking, but it had nothing to do with beers or users in general. it was more a i'm busy and i'm not so in the mood for boards.ie.

That being said, i've still kept contact with a few users i havent had a drink with in ages. i've talked to cyber alot since my noc-non posting spree, and we've never met :pac:

So i think maybe if a number of folk feel that theres nothing but socialising to talk about/being talked about, maybe they too could start threads? it would help and it would be more constructive than not posting or being annoyed.
I really like Tonis idea, i've seen it elsewhere and its great.

    mod note

    lil reminder-
please leave feedback, but try and be constructive and try not get annoyed or angry at people for not seeing it the way you do. if it helps, take a breather and wait a while before responding, i'm super happy and proud that the threads a) gotten lots of posts and b) gotten so far without any battles. keep up the good work gang.
    :)

You're spot on FC, and you're right when you suggest that people should be big enough to get past their personal issues with each other and not let it affect the forum.

However, it's a tad unfair to take that attitude when none of us haven't a breeze in regards to what has gone on in "real life" between people. For all we know, it could be perfectly understandable that they have stopped partaking in this forum.

Obviously if it was something major to them or hurtful or very annoying to them then it's understandable they would not enjoy the forum esp if that person they have issues with is still around. Hopefully in time folks could resolve issues if that's possible...if not that's a pity but that's also life which can be crappy :(

Think we more discussing simple annoying things...or being slightly ticked off at people/not liking certain folks for whatever reasons and then giving up totally on the forum. That type of thing.

Also...I aint a biter don't believe what ye have heard :p

Aye true enough. Probably best to get off this topic of discussion anyway, it can only end ugly. :pac:

Anyway, idea time again, I know that ages ago that we were toying with the prospect of getting a creative writing thing going on. I mean I'd be up for that, since all I have is free time these days. :P
