Too late, I already took the plunge on this keyboard http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-001-QP

I here Filco are coming out with a backlit keyboard. Might be interesting to see what they bring to the table.

Anyone here want to help me out with ideas on a new smartphone. Im asking here cause I have come to respect the input of the knowledgeable folk on this forum :D

No set idea in my head of what I want just as long as there isnt an apple logo on it. This is my first smartphone as I have been trying to avoid it up to this. Im afraid I will never be offline once I start having this thing in my pocket all the time.

If you're going for the best out there atm look at the Galaxy S3, HTC OneX and the Sony Xperia S. All are great phones. If you wanna go a little cheaper, then the Galaxy S2 is still an awesome phone and is probably the best value for money.

If you have cash, the Galaxy S3 is the best on the market. But I'd be inclined to go for the S2 because it's probably much cheaper at this point and only a little bit worse. Nothing to do with the fact that I have an S2 and am jelly of the S3 :pac:

If/when I get a new one, I'll be looking at the Razer Maxx from Motorola. Absolutely massive battery, and very good specs as well.

While Android is the way to go, not all androids are equal.

most of my friends have Samsungs, and I really cant recommend them unless you're willing to change ROM's (you should do that anyway i suppose, but im not sure how good custom roms are for them)

Thing is, TouchWizz is absolutely rubbish. little things like apps not appearing in alphabetical order, do my head in (theyre stored in the order you download them in. doesnt matter when you have 10 apps, but wait till youve got 100 and looking for Ebay or something.) And there are many more flaws with it too.

HTC have been consistently good, and if you ever get annoyed at something (though their stock ROMs have come a long way), there is a HUGE dev community for them. Theyre also heavier and use alot more metal (look for the metal unibody ones) and they'll 'feel' much more expensive in your hand, and are bulletproof. samsungs always feel plastic-ey and cheap.

Im not up-to-date with HTC's latest hardware, but depending on your budget, there is a lot of them to choose from.

if youre interested, ive got a DesireHD with an ultraclean debloated custom ROM thats OC'd to 1.8ghz. Its damn fast, and I dont see any need for an upgrade to these dual core beasts.

actually, its been crashing on me recently, after viber updated itself. its fine if I uninstall the app :o

I might be interested Tea if you want to pm me a price.

Mate at work has a galaxy nexus and have to say its an impressive phone. Everyone seems to have the S2/S3 or an iphone cause I guess thats what they are getting with their bill. The nexus is an expensive phone on its own alright and prob be too big of a jump from my old nokia!

Ha I didnt mean it was for sale, though it does sound like it. I was just referring to if you wanted to know what phone I owned if you know what i mean.

Ive been considering upgrading, but I really have no need. this phone does everything I want, and in the current climate, it probably isnt worth much anyway.

gotcha. will add it to the mix. Now that I think of it I think another lad at work has the HD. There are so many of them HTC phones its hard keep track of them

I wouldnt recommend getting the DesireHD new now, unless you can get it for ~€250 maybe. I paid close to €800 when it first came out :o

Just to show that "older" tech is still very good these days, and dual core isnt everything (yet), unless youre a gamer on your phone I guess.

The One X and S feel way better than the S3.
But the S3 does have better hardware and a hard home key.
    Tough call.

In other news a leaked 660Ti is running much hotter than expected.

    (Could be BS :pac:)

thats what I am kinda thinking though. Maybe pick an S2 or something up on adverts from some upgrader. Prob a good place to start. I would be very slow to spend that much on a phone (only on pc parts)

I'm on my 3rd HTC Desire, does all i need it to. Don't want too big a screen on my phone plus I don't want to change my car dock!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,182 ✭✭✭Genghiz Cohen

I have the HD and it is a lovely phone, but I would go with a S2 if you are on a budget. The HD is much heavier and thicker, plus the S2 screen is far superior.

I have a Sensation and don't like it at all.

Galaxy Nexus is the one to get.

No idea why he has them set up horizontally though!
    that went well :o

I was really just hoping for a counter offer from him then to settle somewhere inbetween.

after doing lots of reading, its not worth anywhere near €200 unless the stands are valuable. even new, it'd be hard to justify. the swans m10 from Amazon.de for €160 are better in every way. the updates of those D2 is £150 from Amazon.co.uk.

there are edifier ones out for less too.

    edit:

for the record, I'm totally OK with pricing things high on adverts.ie. the website attracts enough Mickey mouse traffic to want to scare off non serious buyers looking to trade a pack of taytos, and you could get lucky with someone who doesn't follow the market close enough to know if something is a tad high. its all about haggling, and if you start low you're going to end very low. obviously, if stuff is stupid money, people make a thread about it and laugh at you. also, you don't sell anything.

yer man seems a bit of a **** so he'll find it hard to sell now. if he said he'd do €150 I would have bought them without blinking, or even researching :o

If you are considering the Nexus, also consider the S2 HD LTE

Looks like someone has a serious attitude problem. I can't see anyone making an offer on them after his carry on.

Id also be pissed when I spend a fortune on something for it to be worth a fraction months later. €200 is just far too high. by his own quote, and a website which I actually overlooked, thomman.de is doing them for €215 delivered. and amazon.co.uk does the newer one for €185.

    ah well.

im kinda more into the passive speakers + AMP anyway.

In other news, my Xonar D2X should be posted to me tomorrow. I also cant use it till I get my motherboard back from RMA :(

    Nope.

We have this phenomenon of the US versions of some phones being LTE, but AFAIK LTE is a whole new band and nothing to do with GSM(HSDPA) or CDMA.

I hate rude a-holes on adverts. Doesn't cost anything to say - No thanks I'm looking for a little more, or the I'll only take asking but I'll come back to you - something like that.

He might sense that you're having the laugh...

He doesn't seem to have much of a sense of humour! :D

I offered some guy €300 for a 7950 direct cu II and was told off lol - so glad he didn't accept now that the one you recommended is winging its way to me! :D
