those horizon boxes are crap thou. Do they even have a web interface?

It's far far better than their old service to be honest. The box packs some decent hardware. It's a lot faster and the gui is a lot better looking and more responsive.

It has some web features built in as well. You can go onto various sites like youtube, facebook ect. I don't know if you can search any site. I haven't used it much. The controller has a qwerty keypad on the back though which makes typing easier.

The box itself is pretty sexy looking as well and includes the router in the box.

The only drawback is that it has a little 50-60mm fan on the underside that can be audible at times.

Aye. It's silly really. Only took it as all the Horizon packs are €50 for the first 6 months.

Ive only have half that and i have to say i think its worth it,games are so big now! If its that cheap why not:)

What download speed you getting on Steam?

With 100mb im getting about 20MB/s,of all the game clients ive found steam to give me the best speeds, with origin close behind at about 15MB/s

    Heard the wifi is crap too. Out of interest how does one change the wifi key on one of those boxes?{ Im thinking of a future errand I have to do sometime}

I downloaded about 10 games on it last night. I only seen the speed it was up to before I went to bed but it was around 23mb/s.

That's megabytes is it? MB/s? If so it's damn good man, a shade under 200mbps.

I haven't really tested the wifi. My old usb wifi card was ****e anyway and my pc isn't too far from the horizon box so I just went with a wired connection.

Trying to get 200mb/s over wifi is a tall order anyway regardless of how good the box or wifi card is.

Yes sorry, too lazy to capitalize :)

you'll grow to need that lag after a while. the amount of skill shot i miss in lol is proof of that. best ping i could get was around 220ms

youre lucky you could even run the speed test i couldnt on my connection :pac:

speaking of connections im finally returning to Fibre :pac:

I can play well under 300 ping :D But because I prefer assassins its.. hard to say the least. Akali, ahri, Diana are all nightmares with bad ping

    New (?) Bitfenix Colossus M m-ATX and m-ITX cases.

Not sure if I like it, but more competent m-ITX cases are always welcome.

I much prefer the more understated look of the Phenom M myself, I think they are pretty much the exact same case apart from the exterior (identical internal layout etc.).

Yeah, love that case. (For the lazy)

The EVGA Hadron is winning for me, Girlfriend is thinking about Ascending to the Master Race. gonna see if I can get a Hadron build going on.

Yeah it's expensive, but it includes a slim 500W PSU.

I remember looking at that when it was announced, the only think i tought was odd was 2 extraction fans and no intake fans. Could get more dust build up than usual. If you get one though post plenty of pics!

I was also looking at this, never knew it had no intake fans?! And if you swap the 'D' and the 'R' in 'Hadron'...

Is an R9 290 way overkill for 1080p?

Probably though if you've got a 120 mhz monitor or play the likes of BF4 on ultra then it mightn't be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

An overclocked 280x would play bf4 on ultra. If it's anything like bf3 as well then amd will get a lot more performance out of it with drivers over time.

Depends what you see as acceptable framerates really.

I have had to cut my budget for my build a bit but I have waited long enough and I don't want to wait even longer and I was wondering if a 760 would be a huge step down from a 770, which I had originally planned on getting? I don't play the most demanding games and I will be playing @ 1080p.

Nope a GTX 760 would be just fine for you, in fact the GTX770 would probably be a little bit of overkill if you are playing games that aren't the most demanding @1080p.

Cheers for that, big relief. I've looked at a few benchmarks and as much as I would like a 770, the 760 will be just right. Although if there is any AMD card which has a better price to performance ratio I may be inclined to go with that.

Possibly a well cooled HD7950 if overclocking potential is factored in, but there's not really any clear price performance winners at the moment, as things seem reasonably competitive in the GPU market currently. Just keep your eyes peeled for a good deal on either. And remember black friday is approaching so it might be worth hanging on a few days in case there are good GPU offers.

If you run your build through http://geizhals.de/ you can get a discount on parts. Just search for the part and select hwvs from the list.

My monitor is 60hz so acceptable FPS wise anything 60 plus average and dips no lower than 40 say. I'm on a tight budget (as planning a totally unnecessary but at the same time, entirely necessary WC loop!) so £100 in the difference is a fair whack, but if it's gonna add a good bit of longevity to the life of the card it may be worth the stretch.
