I got one second hand a while back really cheap. I find it a lot louder than I expected, I'm actually pretty much a noob when it comes to watercooling, so I've no idea what's 'normal' with regards pump noise. I had a self contained cpu water cooler before, forget the model, but it was definitely much quieter than the pump in the h80 i have...

I've heard of noise issues and such, but dealing with the last case and the CPU cooler and the sound that made, I think I'll be okay with this. I have headphones on frequently and if not, music through my speakers. All will be well! Hopefully :P

For the love of God people, anyone overclocking Haswell DO NOT USE THE CLASSIC SETUP. Use the shiny new BIOS. Reason being - I accidentally set 1.79vcore and 1.29 VRIN instead of the other way around, and there was no indication to show danger etc. It took me 5 mins to boot into the BIOS (being extremely unstable it would hang on bootup, wouldn't POST or anything). My board doesn'thave a second BIOS, I'm lucky I even got in there.

I don't think I've damaged the chip, does anyone have any thoughts in this regard? I haven't tried my refined overclocks yet and settled on 1.29 for 4.5 (I'm actually sable at 1.25, or at least I was before this). I will have another look tomorrow.

I'd say you will be fine since it would hang and not get to bios where it tends to run at the full voltage.

Have you not got a clear cmos button on the i/o panel you could have used?

I could have done that... But didn't. At the time sher I didn't realise what I had done until I had actually gotten into the BIOS.

Does it run that voltage in the BIOS? If it does that's not good. 1.8 - 2 v on air is supposed to insta kill a chip. Perhaps the low VRIN saved me.

Yeah far as i know all board will run like that in the bios as none of the power saving features work.

Best way to see if it degraded the cpu (really doubt it did) is run a previous OC you knew was stable and see if it still is or if it needs more volts.

I'd say it was the low vrin that was stopping it getting to the bios.
Either way not impressed by that mobo not having the warning colours in the setting at classic bios.

Bought Corsair Vengeance PRO RAM only to find it doesn't work with my CPU... :( Now to email and see if they'll help!

Which cpu does it not work with?

Which part doesn't work the RAM itself or it's speed? If you can at least use BIOS, downclock to 1600 and tighten timings, should be alright to use until you upgrade your CPU.

My left handed naga arrived today :). Anyone else order one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,009 ✭✭✭WhiskeyGoblin

Can't multi quote on Nexus but it's not compatible at all with older chips according to the website. Running a Q9550. Never even crossed my mind that RAM would be like this! Tried underclocking. Doesn't boot at all! Any more suggestions?

PS4 already lagging behind mid range pc's.

Considering the fact dev's have been coming forward saying their PS4 builds of games have been running better than their Xbox-one builds this is a bad sign for next gen consoles.

Everybody was moaning in this gen that consoles are so far behind, now Sony and Microsoft saying this next gen will last another 8/10 years. So my question is

Comparing last gen and next gen. Will the Xbox one and ps4 be outdated faster and lagging further behind then the 360 and ps3 was?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

Yes imo. The 360 and ps4 were ahead of most high end pc's at release specs wise. Both companies lost a fortune at release with MS losing around $150 per console and Sony losing a whopping $300+ per unit with high blu-ray and cell costs.

The ps4 and xbox-1 are around mid spec at best. I'd say they aren't losing any money per unit this time around either.

True. Sony invested a lot into the cell-tech that never really took off. They both took hardware hits in an attempt to make money on the software side. Now they've established themselves they can scale back and make... well you put it well, mid-range at best.

yes definitely imo dice are already using various visual tricks to improve performance like larger guns, narrower FOV, lower textures, etc that shouldn't be showing up at the beginning of the gen.

I read somewhere that programmers for the next gen consoles will be able to side step much of the software that runs in modern operating systems and therefore will improve performance of the hardware in next gen consoles. Games should be more efficient clock for clock. Can't find the article now though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

They will be better optimized of course but you can't create something out of nothing. They will use trickery to give a similar visual appearance but it doesn't change the fact that it's still an inferior experience to even a mid range pc.

The os should have virtually no overhead on next gen consoles as they have 2 cores dedicated to the os and background programs and plenty of ram this time around.

I suppose the biggest problem, next to keeping costs down, was heat. Consoles are small neat little boxes which will also be media centres that shouldn't make any noise. I never had an Xbox 360 because the noise put me off.

The ps3 is incredibly loud as well.

Ya, never bought one of them either :). The graphics could be awful, like GTAIV or Fallout.

Just got a code for Splinter Cell Blacklist. Entered it into the geforce redeem section. Got a code for uplay. Went to uplay and applied the code. Now it says I should have an option beside the name of the game to download it but I don't. I followed the link they sent me and it just gives me an invoice for my purchase but no download. I'm probably just not seeing something, as usual. Any ideas?

Show me a mouse that does  BTW deathadder can be got for 50 odd on amazon.

Sorry I didn't realise they were a specific brand of teflon pads. They are still teflon pads at the end of the day.

Most decent mice come with at least 2 pairs of these. I'd expect the deathadder to have some at that price.

CryEngine is awesome. Pity the SDK is for pc only :(

It looks like TitanFall is another game that wont be running at 1080p60. Respawn gave the we'll see answer along with saying tat 60fps is more important than res. which is weird imo cause the game looks like its running on a jumped up COD engine

    Don't you mean source engine?
