Link for the group buy? 27" 100 Hz sounds mighty tempting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,979 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

there's no link as such, just them discussing it in the big thread. original thread here

the first batch of monitors could automatically do 95-105hz, but the revision model had a change to a PCB, so theyre talking to a manufacturer to supply a large amount of said PCB and replace it yourself.

Talking of bulk orders, could we organise something like that ourselfs? Hdds or monitors?

Well I've cancelled my order of the 120 Hz monitor from the UK ... conflicted now whether I should wait until a local one pops up or take a closer look at the Catleap. 27" IPS for €300 is already pretty phenomenal, but if it'll do 100 Hz then that's basically two birds with one stone..

Speaking of bulk orders... Raspberry Pi, anyone?

You think we could get a discount if we do a bulk order?
I'd love to play with one.

yes! I was going to get a dell u2412 for €250, but for an extra 50 I can look at near on double the screen res of 1080p.

you also have to factor in customs possibly. they label it as a $50 gift, but a guy in Belgium got hit for €15 and another in the UK got £30.

Same. I was going to order a few and just find uses for them all. :P

I don't know that my GPU/CPU would handle TF2 at 200 fps at that res + streaming at the same time ... would probably have to run it in a 1080P window ... which ends up around the same size as I have it now on 23" :P

Just saw the ad there, if your seriously interested ask him to post some pictures with his name written on a piece of paper beside it.
For the most part people on adverts are quite trustworthy, I've only bought stuff a few times but every time I did it was a smooth transaction.

I've noticed a swarm of 6990's flooded onto eBay too. Could be manufacturers emptying their stockpile to make way for the 7000 series stuff, but could just as likely be a scam.

tem bought in July 11. These cost 675 new. Works perfectly - selling to upgrade. Actual picture isn't my own 6990. Bought from scan.co.uk who provide a 36 month warranty I think.

I have more than 2 of these available.

very very weird. selling to upgrade as i have 10 of them... In all fairness a 6990 for 500eu would be a great thing, but it smells like crap... if i would buy it, i would buy it only if i can meet with him.

What I want from a catleap-

    90 Hz +
    No dead pixels
    No input lag

    Can it be done? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88 ✭✭Osmosae

:o that catleap is indeed a steal!!!! Let us know what its like Tea, sorry i'm unfamiliar with your rig specs, have you another ips monitor to compare it against when u get it ?

Thinking of grabbing 1 to replace my second monitor, i love the 27" i have, would love 2 of these side by side

What sort of card would you need to run bf3 at ultra on one of those monitors, would a 7870 cut it, and is the monitor good for gaming in general?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

I'm not sure about the input lag for gaming, there doesn't seem to be a great deal of attention paid to it.

7970 Overclocked for max settings, or a decent crossfire setup. Even with a 7970, you're getting 28 frames in Shogun, 36 in Metro 2033.

I don't have an IPS screen no :(

a 7870 wont do it no. I've got a 6990 and average around 85-100 fps in a large 64 player map @1080p on ultra. 1440p is nearly twice the pixels.

@1600p my card gets 68fps on BF3 ultra settings according to benchmarks. I'm hoping that in real world scenarios, and with slightly less than 1600p, my card will do the same.

for reference, the 7870 gets 43fps in the same benches.here

bare in mind though, at that pixel density, you wont need ultra settings. you can afford to turn down AA AF and wouldn't notice it in the slightest.

I'm going through phases of doubts if I should get one of these. looks like 10% have dead pixels. the pixels are tiny, so you might never notice, but its a possibility. input lag is a factor too. no one is talking about it, but if you take first person shooters seriously, that'll be unacceptable. trying to get an answer now on it. a Dell u2412 should be perfect in every way, long warranty, cheaper, more inputs, no worry about customs, who are scum compared to other countries.

aarg that 2650*1440 is just so magnificent though.
