Well give it a go myself now. It's started very poorly for me, as anywhere I was going it was just 2 people max trolling, then I just jumped on quad and headed off to the boarders myself.
I got coughs it mince machine with around 100 people on both sides tanks and planes bombing everything around me. Was fun I have to say and a horde feel of it was great.
Graphics are waaaaaaaaaay better then I though they will be. Game looks sexy, but I did had aweful problems with sound quality. I will try it again and maybe it was just temporary glitch.
Station cash sale was handy too. 6000points for 17eu a good deal I guess. Though you can't use it now?

anyone playing Euro Truck Simulator 2?

its as dull as the name suggests, but I'm actually having loads of fun with it. Haven't been into Sims in a long time, and I think I'm hooked again.

considering getting a racing wheel/pedals/gear stick. anyone know what to look out for or what to avoid?

I'm using the G27 and I can't fault it. I think shadowheart is big into racing sims so he'd probably be the man to ask.

The g27 is quality, got one on ebay last year for 120 stg for Dirt 3 but got bored & flogged it after it gathered dust for months. Regret it now. Keep an eye out for a 2nd hand one, great build quality so they do last.

Avoid too much red bull & Dexedrine.:)

I used to trawl eBay every day for bargains, and I've completely lost interest in the site. everything ends up going for retail price! sure occasionally you get a great deal, and I've got a few myself, but even then the seller could be a hassle to deal with.

once I scored 2 500gb velociraptors that went for peanuts cause they were miss labeled and the seller said they 'developed a tick' and was uncomfortable selling me dodgy drives

the savings aren't worth the time you put into them.

HWVS has the g27 @ €237, which appears to be good cause they sell for more on eBay. scan has them for £237 = €300.

Also if you get a great deal, the seller would be upset and not sell them to you.

Well now you've got me playing it and it's bloody difficult with the wheel. I've already caused mayhem on a few roundabouts and spent forever trying to park in the tutorial.

your still playing it im impressed

as for a racing wheel the logitech g27 is prob the best atm and 237 is a good price
    or you could get this

might be a bit more expensive :pac:

    247eu delivered from komplett

Sorry for long delay, but if you do want a proper Sim experience, then g27 is the only option for normal money, i would not go anything lower. I would not really go for second hand ones and buy only from a seller, which you know is decent for RMA too. There are some known issues with g27, which were never sorted. So if you do get a crapy one, you better know that you can properly RMA it.
Sure there is fanatec too, but for a full setup of wheel, gear shifter and pedals, you be looking around 1000eu.

Was just browsing tech news and came across this
If you’re a DSL user, you might have heard about interleaving and FastPath. Interleaving is an error correction mechanism that makes sure you get all of your packets in an uncorrupted form. If your connection is bad, it can make a big difference when left on. However, people with good DSL connections might want to consider asking their ISP to turn this setting off, thus enabling FastPath. For example, you might want it off if you’re a big gamer because it can lower your ping time, and it’s not vitally important that every packet is received properly. The pros and cons vary heavily depending on your situation, so don’t assume turning it off will make your connection better.

DSL users may also have the option of changing their profile to more aggressive settings. If you are close to the local telephone exchange, there is less line noise, and thus higher connection speeds are possible if your ISP and router are correctly configured. To change your line profile you will generally need to contact your ISP (and you may need to speak to an engineer, rather than a customer service rep).

I live very close to my exchange so im wondering what does the bold part mean?

Are you getting the max you like should? If you are, then you wont get any more anyways. If not, then your line is probably still cr@p.

Also, eircom arent exactly great for doing anything for anyone.

ya i reckon im getting the max. Its a great line afaik
    SNR Margin 38.5
    15.0 db
    Line Attenuation:9.5
    6.5 db
    Data Rate:3072
    384kbps
    POWER:15.5........-1.0 dbm

Pity I cant get higher than 3mb broadband because of the horrible company that Eircom are. Wish they would go bust tbh

I was just asking that question because I didnt know anything about aggressive profile. It'd be nice to have a lower ping thou

Steam was working fine for me last night but now it wont even launch... no matter how many times I click on it, and it doesnt launch at startup. Wont start even if I run as admin. Games still launch if I navigate to their folders though. Antivirus has turned up nothing. All Ive done is installed fraps, thats hardly gonna be it is it? Very odd.

Edit: Just ran L.A. Noire, comp throws up a warning about aero. Says it cant really run aero and L.A. Noire at the same time. I'm thinking summats died on me hardware wise... maybe GPU?

Well guys, I got my GTX 660 and was really impressed with it. Nvidia drivers seem to be less bloated, and for some unexplained reason, images seem to load faster on websites.

I re installed windows 7 (with all the drivers) and I played about 5 hours of Skyrim since Thursday on it and for the most part its been fine, well that is until yesterday. I was just walking around a forest in the game (this seems to tax the GPU the most, with the GPU usage at 99% according to GPU-Z ) and surely enough, the same sort of stuff is happening. The screen randomly flashed white when I was walking around and about a minute later it did the same :(

When I loaded from the previous save I was on, I could not replicate the same issue however I noticed when I passed under a walkway and looked at the Forrest, the game would flash black in nearly the same spot eight times out of ten.

so yeah, it seems that my previous GPU perhaps wasn't faulty at all (even though dabs said they would test it to make sure it was) Perhaps it is pure coincidence, but this issue only started to develop after I replaced my power supply with the corsair unit, or perhaps something on the motherboard broke when I was moving things around in the case?

Surely if my power supply was bad, it would crash the entire game/computer and/or reduce FPS and not produce problems like this?

This PC really turning out to be a total disaster :(

You probably already have it running, it's just not shutting down right. Ctrl+Alt+Del and open the task manager. Have a look at the processes and shut down any steam ones.
If that doesn't work install steam again and it should repair itself.

    @N64
Faulty RAM maybe? Or could be the motherboard. Are you overclocked by any chance?
    Could be corrupted windows too.
    What haven't you replaced yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

I'm thinking it might be RAM thing myself. Most other things (other than the GPU that is) will tend to just die on you, without so many problems before hand.

PSU: You'd see problems in other games at the very least, or while doing other load-intensive things.
CPU: It would tend to sooner throw a BSOD than something small and specific
Motherboard: Could be this, if it wasn't just in games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,330 ✭✭✭N64

the thing is, outside of games I never really experience Issues. Sometimes the system will freeze (i.e. due to a website laden with flash content, or loading up origin :pac: ) but will resume a few seconds later with a beep sound from my speakers, which indicates that the system is busy AFAIK.

The only other game I tested my 7850 was black mesa source, and I got the same sort of crap going on there, random sections of the screen would go black just for a split second.

My ram is not overclocked at all, nor is any part of my system. My memory is mixed (one set is at a higher clock speed) but the motherboard down clocks it to match the slower ram, so that should not be a problem. I will run memtest86+ for about 2 passes, and I will see how things go.

The only original parts left I have in my system are the HDD (which is reported to be fine by seatools) and case. I should also mention that I was running this mobo with my friends 6950 for a while back in the summer, and I did not really run into much issues at all (although I didn't really play much games)

Would ye chance buying a pc game serial off ebay? Now its most likely Russian but the seller has good feedback regarding the serials

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

N64: The beep sound from the speakers is the bit that worries me a little. You shouldn't get that. Download HD Tune Pro and see what that says about your hard drive.

Headshot: Wouldn't personally, unless you're making an absolutely huge saving. I'd just wait for it to go on sale on Steam or something. What with the Christmas sale next month.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,330 ✭✭✭N64

if its worth anything, that origin bug is pretty well known and does tend to affect lots of users. My netbook does the same sort of thing sometimes (but it is a crappy netbook :p)

I can't run HD tune now since memtest is running on the PC, however I remember running it a few days ago and apart from a communication error value (from my old motherboards broken sata port I suspect) there is nothing to be overly concerned about.

Just to ask you guys, how many passes of memtest should I run it for? I'm a light sleeper and I don't think I could get a wink of sleep running with it on overnight :P

EDIT: I actually found a benchmark of the disk from June of this year.

The logic seems to be that you can get away with a few times but buying lots of games from another region(which is what you are doing) could get you in a spot of bother.
