I've noticed that this seems to be a problem on some Intel chipsets- disappearing SSDs. Try one of the other ports - i.e., if you're on the 3Gbps, try the 6Gbps ones.

    i got only 2x6gb ports and both used ( 60gb and 256gb )

funny enough all the other sata devices where still visiable in bios. the only one gone was that 60gb one...

    would that really be chipset?

Jesus, you've had one horrible experience with Specialtech. I have a few spare compressions, but not enough for a whole loop unfortunately. Had a look on Adverts too and there doesn't seem to be anything there...

Sorry to hear about that man, I know from experience it sucks to go without your computer because of waiting on one stupid thing.

GTA V is announced for a Spring 2013 release, but in true rockstar fashion, no PC release is mentioned

    http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/45951/grand-theft-auto-v-is-coming-spring-2013.html

A moderator on the site released this statement:
Hey guys, glad to see so much enthusiasm about the release announcement. For those asking about the PC platform, we're currently focused on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game and don't have any details to share about a PC version at this time. Anyone that continues to spam the comments section will have their commenting privileges suspended.

Rockstar are dead to me  :(

Scum... I won't be bothered with xblender and ps3 versions so. I am prety sure it will be as optimised for PC as a toaster for USB connection when it comes out...

I really thought they turned a new corner with the release of max payne 3 as well. I haven't played it myself since I am not really into that genre however I have heard its meant to perform excellent on PC (but don't forget its a really linear game and GTA V will be way more complex)

I have four of these if they're any use to you, maybe with the few Serephucus has we might be able to get enough?? They're for 1/2"-3/4" so hopefully they'll be suitable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Heh, they're the very same ones I've got. Just had a look and I've only got three.

Hey Tea, don't suppose you have any spare? If we can get to ten he'll have enough. :P

Yep there is no such thing as SATA I/II/III cables its all the same.

Oh, damn. So its just the ports that are SATA 2 and 3 and not the cables? Cool, anywhere online that sells them cheap?

I have three of these as well, they don't look as good but if he can hide them they might do the job.

MaximumPC did a good test about this very same subject last year:
    http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/your_sata_cable_slowing_down_your_data_transfers_max_pc_investigates

    TL;DR: No :P

I don't have any yet. every time I'm about to order my stuff my money gets diverted elsewhere :(

I've got compression fittings that are too small and clamps that are far too large.

if it were my own PC I wouldn't even bother with them, but I don't want to take responsibility of them popping off when technically not properly attached anyway when its not my own components to fry.

Nope, and you're wrong. Simple as. :D

(Perhaps it's not for everyone, but personally, I don't see myself putting up with an air cooled computer - at least not my main rig - ever again.)

Well unless you were speaking in ancient roman your spelling was wrong actually ;) Its plebian, checks out through google. If youre gonna insult someone best do it in a current vernacular. ;)

Air coolings fine, aint that much of a difference in temps to justify water cooling especially considering the obvious risks. Anyone who overclocks cpus but just plays games is frankly silly anyways. By the time your chip is struggling therell be something miles better out there so just go for that. Enough time will have passed to justify another purchase.

They have no love for PC any more, sad really as that's where most GTA games shine. I think it will play out like GTA IV, mediocre PC release 5/6 months after PS3 xbox release. Then give it a month or two for the community to sort out their half arsed mediocre PC port and create a few decent looking texture packs, so probably next October then before its worth buying.:(

Anyway f**k GTA, I'm loving Dishonored too much ATM to care:)

Tell that to my 580. 49°C under full load at 975MHz core. 50°C difference enough for ya? Also, you're completely overlooking the point why lots of people water cool: Silence. Not many people can have a virtually silent system on boot up, and have it remain that way when they're rendering, or gaming, or what have you. Yes it's a lot of money, but in my view (and others, as I'm sure they'll attest) it's worth every penny.

It happened to me and I thought it was the drive so I switched with another. Still happened. Turns out that it's actually regularly enough occurring across manufacturers and all 6 series chipsets, so it seems that Intel is to blame.

It's a real pain in the ass problem as it's so erratic - it can work away for ages and then it seems to happen more and more regularly. Swapping around the ports every so often seems to help as the motherboard seems to check again if something is there. I'll have to send back my own board though as its a nuisance at this stage.

The problem only seems to be related to SSDs. Hard drives etc turn up fine.

My system is one year old now and it happened once, but I guess it happened and it will happen again... If it is not going to happen to often then I might live with it until next upgrade. I really could not be arsed rma it and be with no PC for weeks...

Yeah, I'm just going to buy a new board to replace that one. Then send it back. I'm sure I can find it a good home or sell it. It's got to the stage where it hardly works so it wouldn't make any difference whether I have it or not. I'm not really interested in booting from HDD (zzzzzzz waiting is sooo 1990s). Probably go with AMD flavour instead - it's a HTPC so the FM2 boards could make it a bit more interesting in expanding its uses.

I have to agree with Serephucus here. My 580 hasn't broken the 50ºC mark since I put it under water and off the top of my head it's running at 950MHz. At stock before water I was reaching 80ºC+. The benefits of water way out weigh the risks and I certainly won't be going back to air.

Near silent performance coupled with looking pretty damn good wins out for me!

Well. Windows 8. Two days of use.

Verdict: not even worth pirating. At least I get to do a clean install of windows 7.

    yap horrible horrible OS

  • Site Banned Posts: 1,678 ✭✭✭Andy!!

Unplugged HDD and SSD from mobo to screw the mobo in a bit tighter, now it wont boot properly. If I plug in just the SSD it goes straight to windows fine, but if I plug the HDD in again it gets confused. It says select and reboot but it doesnt give me a list of the disks to select. Will probably have to sort it throught the BIOS/UEFI, but how do I do that? Im on an ASRock board.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

Don't have the motherboard screwed in too tightly. It's only supposed to screw in as far as they go without forcing them. You don't want to damage the motherboard.

You just need to change the boot order. I can't remember exactly, but I think there's a heading in the UEFI called boot on the Asrock boards.

Yeah but I was the other way really. When I was pulling/plugging stuff in to the PCI at the back I felt as if I was pulling on the motherboard; there were disconcerting sounds. Could have been from the bracing on the PCI cover compressing in but not sure. Anyways Ill have to look around for a solution to the boot problem, cant seem to find a way to jig it in the BIOS/UEFI meself. If someone is very familiar with ASRock uefi hit me up! ;)
