I'm starting Accounting this year but my debs is the same day as my orientation day. Does it make a huge difference that I'll probably miss the 2nd half of the day or will it make much of a difference really?

I never went to my orientation day. To this day I still don't know what happened. I assume by the name it involved showing new students around.

It won't make much of a difference, you might miss some speeches, a tour of the campus and maybe a question and answers session with the head of your department. But, once you get your student card, which I think they gave out pretty much straight after you got your picture taken last year, and complete registration part 2 you should miss nothing special. The rest of the day is just to get to know the campus and people in your course, but that can be done when you start for real.

ps, don't forget to pick up as much freebies as you can on the day :p

    Greetings :)

I'm Katie, 18, going into med. Now for the questions :p

Can anyone tell me what the timetable is like?

Also when awarding the degree at the end do they base it on all your results or just the last few years?
Kinda random but I'm just wondering can I just enjoy college life in first year and get to the serious stuff later on?

Cheers and see you all soon :)

I'm friends with a 1st year med. student and tbh it's a tough year. I'd try my best if I were you to keep at it. I'm not telling you to abandon your social life but don't lose sight of what course you're doing!

Few Limerick-ians on this forum. Accent? Meh, I still think mine's normal but I throw it on to infuriate my relatives. :D

They are so much better than they used to be, in fairness. Library is quite good too, and if it's a special occasion then head to the Glucksman.

I will never ever in my life forget the state of the library toilets during the May bank holiday weekend this year, before exams started. Truly horrifying stuff.

Also word to the wise for first years: If a man by the name if "John Murphy" approaches you, make sure you stay well back.

What is English for 1st year like? I liked most of the English course for the Leaving Cert.. but I only got a C2.. :/ The other subjects I am thinking about keeping on are Geography, History and Politics.. I am thinking about doing secondary teaching after so teaching subjects would be handy :P

Any other suggestions on a fourth subjects?!

The only advice I can give to anyone doing Arts is to stay clear of Sociology. I know a good few people who did it and they all hated it. So don't pick Sociology as a filler subject; only do it if you want it as part of your degree.

Also, I'm pretty sure English, Geography and History are the three most popular subjects so you may not get all three (though I'm open to correction on this.) English is definitely the most popular though, so make sure you stick that down as your No. 1 prefrence; otherwise you're not likely to get it.

That is unless you have a lot of classes in the ORB and in that case good luck to you! :P[/QUOTE]

If my timetable is anything like the one from last yr, it doesn't have a single class in the ORB!! :)
But is does show a lecture in boole immediately followed by one in brookefield...........i'll start my marathon training now!!

Anyone know where the West Gate Building is? i figure it being in the west wing might just be a tad too obvious!:D
