Cycle is okay if it is dry but if it is raining or frosty cold it is a different story. you dont want to be turning up to work drowned / sweaty from the wet gear do u.?? You will spend another 10-15 mins then getting dry & fixing yourself.

That has always been my argument against it

Kind of looking into what I'll have to do. Get the bus?? Cycle??

The bus service is fairly poor and cycling can be dangerous. Where are you travelling to and from?

Saying cycling is dangerous is scaremongering and a ridiculous statement. I cycle all around the city and county and have never had any difficulties as long as you keep your wits about you.

Honestly Mc love, get on that bike. You'll save yourself a ton of money, get fitter and have a much more enjoyable commute. I commute by bike everyday and the days were it is raining are rare and if it does rain just stick in some waterproofs and you'll be grand!

Go and read the comment properly. Nobody said cycling is dangerous. It can be dangerous. There's a difference. It depends on what McLove's route is, what conditions he is likely to encounter, etc.

All modes of transport can be dangerous. Walking can by dangerous, driving can be dangerous.... why are you singling out cycling as dangerous when it is no more or less than other modes of transport? And I read you post correctly the 1st time btw.

It's an agenda and does little to entice people to take up cycling

Yep bus is fairly poor alright, I'd have to drive to parents and park there and get the bus from their house as stop is across the road. I'm just outside of Dooradoyle.

I'm pretty fit as it is :pac:

Yeah there isnt that many days where I've had to use the umbrella walking from the car park. Suppose I would cut through all the traffic too.

When you’re checking the timetables, dont forget the Dooradoyle to city centre route is serviced by both the 301 & 304.
304 had a double decker yesterday when I saw it.

The biggest surprise of my 20minute cycle commute every morning, aside from how little rain we actually do get in Limerick, was how much it improved my bike times. Have been doing little to no training on my tri bike this year as have had no time, yet I smashed last year's times at a time trial recently.

Defo go for bike over bus McLove!

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,015 ✭✭✭✭Mc Love

Well it does say 17 minutes to cycle in - which is probably the same if I went by car or maybe quicker. I could probably go a lot quicker than that I reckon.

what do others think ? Do u think car paint on new cars is gone very cheap/as in poor Quality compared to paint work on say 2005 cars & older. some of it fades & scratches very easily on new cars. Same thing on old 2005 older cars would hardly fade for a lot longer & not scratch as easy.

I read that there was supposed to be an international foodtruck festival on in Limerick for the Bank Holiday weekend. I can't find any info on it since, anybody know anything about it?

Hadn't heard anything about it this year either but the website says it's running. Hopefully word gets out. Last year could have been better but it was nice to drop in and try something, potential to be a great festival if the organisers tweak it, or even if we just get a good weekend of sun!

We're in the city centre and our water just cut out. We've discovered there's an outage lasting until 10 or 11 p.m. tonight. https://www.water.ie/water-supply/supply-and-service-update/?z=14&lat=52.66113598767339&lng=-8.620571910235071

Was talking to someone last weekend who was attacked recently by a gang of youths as well. Wonder if it's the same crowd....

It's a sad state of affairs but could have happened anywhere, its just a pity these cowards arent caught. And I'd say if you laid a hand on them, you'd be the one sent to jail.

The white van man thing is only a cover. It was MI6 trying to get in touch with 007. They won't be happy with you putting this online.

WOW, OMG. They just called me. They said it was VFI asking me would I be interested in Investment Opportunities.

I said "funny that, you are showing as a White Van Man company in London, I won't be taking this call" and hung up.

Expect more calls people. They're getting about. :D

Probably bought the list. Apparently under GDPR unsolicited emails or phonecalls aren't allowed but chances are this is a spoof/scam company so why would they care. :D
