90% here - something isnt right with the speedtest database - thats for sure :D:p Unless they are been ISP specific but I seriously doubt that!!

It looks like the Download and Upload speeds get weighted in the FASTER THAN results in a way we might not expect.

It almost looks as if they just add the upload and download speeds together and then use that result to compare the speeds of users. However they do it, a fast upload speed seems to push the results higher than you might expect. A user with a poor user experience due to crap Download speeds might see stupid FASTER THAN results when their (unused) Upload speeds are high.

This is just a sample of the speed we get in north Westmeath, equivalent to somewhere in Mongolia, but one twentieth or one hundredth of what I would get in Estonia, Lithuania, Denmark or Singapore. Outside of the major cities, it seems that Ireland is poorly served by all the ISPs. A call to Comreg elicited the information that they have no control over the quality of service, that is a matter between the ISP and the customer. The advice I received was "look at your contract" -- it does not specify any minimum speed, only "up to a specific speed", and of course what you get may be well below that speed. Furthermore, service is not guaranteed at all times, nor in all areas ! It appears that the principal purpose of the State's regulating agency is to collect money from the ISPs and pass it to the Government. Maybe I'm wrong, but ...

Im the shatterer of dreams and herald of woes usually when it comes to 3g technology :p:p:p:p:p

Thought id do this one for the craic :P maybe 3g dreams are not so shattered after all :P

The % value could indeed be effected by upload - eircom for example and anyone whos on the eircom network via another provider usually dont get uploads greater than a meg from what others have shared with me but then again there are a lot of UPC users out there and UPC upload speeds are really nice so....its hard to determine the equation used and the resultant accuracy to the % factor :(

Its all about the network signal, quality and contention in your area mate and this varies for each network - so i cannot fully answer the question for ye :(

Did a bit of messing around with the location of my Huawei router, managed to get it up to 4 bars of HSPA+.
Have my old Huawei b260a connected via ethernet to my new Huawei and am using it to extend my wireless signal downstairs. Seems to be working nicely for now.

How this can get an A+ rating from speedtest.net beats me.

Could be that your latency was stable during upload and download testing :D

Very puzzling -- unless the speeds in the rest of Ireland are so bad !

To be honest about it, the speed I posted was one of the better readings. I have gotten far lower readings than this, but speedtest.net nearly always tells me I have an A reading. I wonder about speedtest.

Dont tell anyone else in your apartment block or else contention will go up and your speeds will surely go down :p:p

    Still very impressed with 3.
    Good speeds at all hours.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,280 ✭✭✭-=al=-

Download speed still being absolutely crap!

    2539900458.png

Any thoughts why the ping and upload are still excellent and the same yet the download is almost 1/3 of what it was? The setup hasn't been changed and only the download is affected!

    Really annoying

The download speed is still acting the maggot!

Any reason why this would happen!? Ping is excellent and so is the upload but the download has gone to crap :(
