Not too shabby, fairly congested housing estate, South County Dublin. I have Vodafone midband clients on either side of this house.

200kb/s during the day, up to 400kb/s. 400kb/s-600kb/s during the night.

Does anyone have any ideas why my download speed has dropped to less than 2Mb where the upload has remained untouched if not increased?

Would it just be congestion stuff?

I get almost 3Mb upload and I used to get 3-4Mb Download but the download has really gone to pants... I opened a thread on the forums and rang up but they're just trolling me hard to be frank

My upload has always been better, than my download. Things have only recently evened out.

I remember when I could barely manage to browse, being able to upload to Megaupload @ close to 400kb/s.. Oddness.

This is just a sample of the speed we get in north Westmeath, equivalent to somewhere in Mongolia, but one twentieth or one hundredth of what I would get in Estonia, Lithuania, Denmark or Singapore. Outside of the major cities, it seems that Ireland is poorly served by all the ISPs. A call to Comreg elicited the information that they have no control over the quality of service, that is a matter between the ISP and the customer. The advice I received was "look at your contract" -- it does not specify any minimum speed, only "up to a specific speed", and of course what you get may be well below that speed. Furthermore, service is not guaranteed at all times, nor in all areas ! It appears that the principal purpose of the State's regulating agency is to collect money from the ISPs and pass it to the Government. Maybe I'm wrong, but ...

OK, I live in North Westmeath, and it is in an NBS area, according to the 3 Map here:

    NBS.jpg

So, did not know and I am paying Vodafone for a DSL service, which just gives 1.7Mb on a up to 3Mb line...

but it will never be better, as the Exchange is around 5 miles away, and the copper has to come all that distance.

Would anyone think I would be better off opting into the NBS??

I could do away with the phone line, and there seems to be a high 40 GB monthly allowance....

Is there any chance at all of getting anywhere near the d/l speeds advertised or promised....

If you opt for the NBS, do you have to go with the Three Bundle, as i would not need their Mobile phone plan......just the Broadband.....OK Midband.

I am in the Collinstown area of North Westmeath, and our mobile coverage is generally crap, but we have Tesco/O2 or meteor, but our signal is dreadful....

would Three be obliged to supply a signal booster if the 3G signal is that bad??

You'd be fcuking mad to swap a fixed line Broadband service for the NBS's Mobile Broadband service.
