i got a B683 today but i'm finding that its internal antenna is nowhere near as good as even the dongle i use also. Even with the same
sim card the dongle gets better download and upload and more bars.

I think im going to get an external antenna but i cant seem to find one specifically for the B638. Does anyone know what I should be looking for by any chance?

Tesco Mobile -Upload is slow due to the phones limit of HSDPA.

I don't even want to show the 3 result right now it's so slow since christmas day 3's service has nose dived to below 1Mb/s most days since xmas day

The Huawei routers use a SMA connector for antennas If I remember... If you google or ebay Huawei antenna it it should come up somewhere

I was looking to get one a while ago but I already get 5 bars and don't think it would improve it that much

Apart from the odd day or two of getting stuck on WCDMA, a pretty decent connection all over Christmas... I messed around with the router location and seemed to have sorted it...

Ping is mostly under 50ms wihich is quite impressive + it's windy and rainy out there with the poor old router in an airtight box on the roof!

At 6:30 am, was getting download speeds of about 1 MB/s. Pity 3 don't have any contention ratio, from about 4 to around midnight I'll be somewhere between 1-3 Mb/s (at best)

    I

bought the external antenna for the B683.

    http://www.mobile2wifi.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3_5&products_id=177

    Its pretty useless tbh.

No increase in signal strength. set the router back to using the internal antenna and its actually better than using the external.

Also not impressed with the wifi range on the B683. Pretty sh!t router.
Anyone thinking of buying one, dont.

    B260a better?

Almost bought an external antenna for it myself but figured there was no point since I get 5 bars already

good old fashioned late night speeds

Ive had a good experience with the new router but the wifi is a bit weak so i use a second router to relay better signal

3g signal and performance is more dependent on location and contention unfortunately - even with better hardware

No posts in this thread since 2010 ? Does that mean everyone is happy with the extremely poor broadband speeds in rural parts of Ireland ? In 2013 I'm getting speeds similar to those reported by downwithpeace and jay93 in 2010 !

90% here - something isnt right with the speedtest database - thats for sure :D:p Unless they are been ISP specific but I seriously doubt that!!

I agree, something isn't right with the Speedtest database, though I generally have faith in Speedtest. I've been getting very poor quality service (in terms of speed) from the Hutchison 3G Rural broadband in County Westmeath. I can actually see a telecommunications mast from our house, but I think it is a Meteor mast, and "Three" do not have a transmitter on it.

warlikedave, please, please don't shatter my dreams - the database is just fine, really.... honestly :D:D :p
