I'm just wondering what hunters use as their knife of choice. I have a small collection of knives. I found this one this morning on E-bay. Possibly my next purchase.

So folks for gutting or skinning what is your favorite knife?

AFAIK you can't buy knives through ebay from the US anymore, I bought a Leatherman wave for $37 dollars a couple of years ago and tried to get another one over 12 months ago and wasn't allowed to buy it.

I use a Davy Moore damascus sealgaire :D:D:D:D:D:D Best knife ever. Proper damasteel is amazing. The knife holds an edge like nothing else and basically never needs sharpening!!!

I actually made a knife recently too. I'll post some picks when I'm finished the kydex sheath for it.

They wont let you buy a knife on ebay if you are in Ireland. I tried recently. Their policy is ridiculus, I couldn't even buy a hand made leather sheath for my buck 110 because the listing had the word 'knife' in it. Talk about ridiculous.
I got around it in the end by contacting the guy who makes them and he shipped one out to me:)

The last time I was able to buy a knife on ebay was summer 09. It was a breaking knife for work and I cant even buy another one of those!

I could not even buy a Remington RIFLE strap

Cold steal are not that nice looking, I like a nice looking knife but that holds its edge.
I'm a big fan of leather sheath wood or bone/antler handle, with a good grip. A knife that can slip out of a wet hand or a bloody slimey hand and cut the user.

I'd love to see more hme made knives. i have a few antlers that would make perfect handles but no decent blade.

f anybody wants to donate me a blade ;) Give me a shout!

You can't buy them via ebay, I didn't say you can't buy direct from the US. Something to do with the UK banning buying knives through ebay as that's how the chavs were getting their shanks, init!

it is pretty, I'd be afraid with fat and blood on it that it might slip out of the hand and do one an injury, although as a general purpose knife it is very nice

Accidents happen no matter how careful you are or how well something is made. Even if the handle was made from rubber it could still slip if it had that much ****e on it. The knife is a beaut:).

I only cut myself once with a knife. I learned a big lesson.
I'd still prefer a guard to stop hand sliding forward.

I worked in a meat factory years back and it was not uncommon to cut the ungloved hand which was holding the knife

2z4n42t.jpg i love the gut hooks, but one of us also carries a good boneing knive in a sheath for taking off the legs/head/tail and cleaning out the ass hole. it keeps the edge on the other knives .

You cannot buy knives from Ebay US, but Ebay UK will send them to you - I bought recently a simple pocket one for field.

i recently went to lidl and picked up a set of 3 knives complete in carry case with chopping board.(for fish) fits nicely into my back pack and comes in handy when i get lucky enogh to hit a rabbit. I can gut and skin there and then. only cost about ten euro. and i know some people say you get what you pay for but it does the job fine . as for anything bigger than a rabbit i dont know!!

I use a fallkniven f1. Not a cheap knife but not the most expensive out there either. Excellent quality.

In the past I've ordered knives from ebay without any problem but since they changed their rules they can't be ordered from Ireland. Still plenty of sites where they can be obtained. Last one I got was a Rat cutlery RC-3.

The best steel to use for knife sharpening is the F Dick multicut steel. I find it works best if you sand it before use.
