Who said that because their own reports tend to be utter tripe.

I'm just off the blower to one of them. There were seven lifted and a number struck with batons etc.

    Special branch?

Yeah. There's photos of them on Indymedia.

No there is photos of plain clothes gardaí. Special branch doesn't even exist anymore. It was replaced by the SDU. And they don't really care what these people do. The plain clothes gardaí were probably local drugs and crime unit gardaí providing assistance. Typical indymedia self importance to think they even register on the radar of important people.

Whatever, they are still commonly referred to as "the Branch", I've even heard them refer to themselves as "the Branch."
And they don't really care what these people do.

They do usually, considering they are tasked with monitoring "subversives" (as well as other general harrasment). Éirigi members have already had to deal with their carry on in the past. At recent functions and commemorations they've often turned up in force, engaging in their usual harrasment and other carry on.

Nope, they were Branchmen. You can usually tell the difference between SDU and CDU immediately.

Come on mate. You're one degree of a lack of self awareness from saying 'dey took our jobs!'

    Assaulted? You mean "hit"?

So Eirigí are a subversive organisation?

I wouldn't say so like. They would certainly be a socialist organisation, but at the same time they don't have any connection to armed groups and nor do they advocate armed struggle. The IMC (the joke that it is) include them in their reports, although (almost reluctantly) they also stated they aren't involved in militaristic activities.

Generally if cops are paying attention to you because of Republican politics it would stand to reason that they're Branch.

So basically not worthy of garda surveillence. I would agree.

Its not the politics they were looking at. It was the four loons on the roof.

I'd agree. Perhaps you should contact the Garda and PSNI Special Branch and tell them stop harassing Éirigi activists as it's a waste of police resources and taxpayers money. (Although I've a suspicion that much of their acting the arsehole and assorted other carry on is due to a desire to accumulate overtime.)
Its not the politics they were looking at. It was the four loons on the roof.

So they send in the Branch over four people on a roof? And when Éirigi decide to have a commemoration for James Connolly there's four car loads of them out with surveillance equipment?

Yeah. Nothing to do with the politics at all.

A neighbour of mine is in A&E after getting kicked and punched by a couple of cops. They seem to have gone in way OTT today....

These would be the same bare faced lying fnckwits who claimed they were "baton charged while peacefully protesting"...

Watch at 2.24 when the main instigator waves on a group of black hoodies to come with him and then roll it from there and please tell me where the Gardai baton charged anyone?

They are liars. They tell such distortions of the truth that they are exactly the same as the liars inside the dail.

They are using this situation and your righteous anger to try to get their own agenda through.

In short they are lying to get their agenda through. Sound like anyone we know?

    DeV.

No they aren't as it happens, but carry on. I'm enjoying your thread where you passionately call for us to bend over and grease up like good little consumers.

    Why?

Perhaps because it would be a pleasure to see it happen to at least someone who wants to use us to get to power while pretending to have our interests at heart.

So you hope they illegally remove their identification badges before illegally using violent excessive force in the name of upholding the law?

Hilarious. An adequate username if there ever was one.

They were trying to enter the Dáil that is illegal.

This is a free country and the protesters have the right to protest outside the gates untill they are blue in the face, the Gardai allow that. The Garda however make it very clear that no protest may cross the Dáil gate. No ifs or buts, that is the law.

These protesters where forcibly breaking the law en masse, the Garda had the right to use their batons. You can twist it all you want but you were in the wrong.

They where not using excessive force, the use of batons is the first port of call by any police force to calm a violent mob. Just be glad they didn't get into the Dáil because then the riot police would have been called.

Thank God, a voice of reason. What do people think would happen when a few bloodthirsty mobsters broke through the Dáil gates? Was Cowen meant to wait behind and invite the lads in? Ask them to throw a few boxes, get it out of their system like? Jesus Christ, protesters have such a hive mentality they lose all sense of reason or proportion.

It is not "illegal" for Gardai to remove their district numbers from their shoulders.

This was only done by a few because of the embarrassment caused by Greece taking the piss out of us last week with their chants during the protest. We had ample opportunity to stand up to this joke of a government but we rolled over like little dogs, and instead rang into Joe Duffy and had a bitch on the Frontline

what were the Greeks chanting regards us? I was away last while so didnt see any footage of their demonstrations

I don't know what his reasoning is, but that's part of my reasoning. If you want to have a ruck with the Gardai - and it's very clear from the video that those lads did - then by all means do. Crying about it afterwards, though, is pretty sad.

If you think you're really hard, you could have a go at the army - and do please get someone not in the line of fire to bring a video recorder.

    regards,
    Scofflaw

I'm referring to the infamous incident a few years ago during a "Reclaim the Streets" protest where Guards removed their identity badges and proceeded to viciously beat marchers using excessive force, leading to a dismissal of one cop (although he was later readmitted).

This was the incident referenced by Mr SS.

Also, at 5:00-5:10, some of the protesters are not only using flag poles, but also batons to attack the gardaí.
