I was listening to High Violet again this morning.

Brilliant. Every song is good, and I keep coming back to it.

Funny i think it's one of their weakest albums. Sounds too shiny or something.

Another new one also in the same performance called Rylan. The whole performance will air in the new year.

On a side note for those that don't watch it Q with Jian Ghomeshi is one of the best music/culture shows around. You can watch/listen to the show for free online - http://www.cbc.ca/q/video/

Latecomer to The National here. :o
Listening to High Violet. Love the clean, elegant sound, love the drumming. Your man's voice is great- sounds like Stuart Staples.
Think i may need to check out their back catalogue.

Then go back to Alligator. Or start with Alligator.

Doesn't really matter: they're both brilliant.

Cherry Tree and Virginia EPs are great too, but maybe check them out last.

Started on these guys recently too. Mostly listening to High Violet but will make my way to the rest. One the best finds in a while. A total pleasure.

Cherry Tree was the first thing I heard by the National back in 2005 or so - I still really enjoy it.

Cherry Tree's great! Wasp Nest and About Today are wonderful and the rest is pretty good too. Virginia EP has some great songs on it too.

"About Today" is fantastic from the Cherry Tree EP.

    Especially so live.

The earlier stuff grows on you as you get more into them though tbh.

About Today is still my favorite song of theirs.. Possibly my favorite ever song.

Anyway found this a few weeks ago for anyone that hasn't heard it -

Hopefully they'll come back soon for a gig here, Olympia again maybe? The Oxegen gig was grand, tiny but enthusiastic crowd :P The National will always be up there as one of my favourite bands. The 3 last three albums have been literally perfect.

According to the ATP website the only UK gig they're playing in 2012 is the ATP festival they're curating so I'd imagine if they come to Ireland it'll be in December.

Of course all you National fans have seen this right?

I'd love to go to that! Who knows, maybe I'll have emigrated and have a job by then.

Heard someone mention previously that the lead singer reminded them of Stuart Staples from Tindersticks. Not a problem for me, but I know that kind of voice can really annoy people.
