1664 blanc (the perfect summer beer!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭LaBaguette

You found some in Dublin ? I'm not a big fan (probably because the regular 1664 is awful crap), but I'm surprised it's sold out of France !

Just back from France, stocked up over there ;)

Kronenbourg Blanc on draught was quite nice when I had it, feels a bit lighter than Hoegaarden so a bit more refreshing but I you lose a bit of flavour because of that I thought.

One of my favorite ales, where did you buy them?, I see that drinkstore have them, haven't tried them in cans so will give them a go and if its good, buy some for the electric picnic.

Sorry to disappoint, I am in Liverpool at the moment. Its really incredible the range of ales that can be bought here, and the best(or at least most varied) beer selection I have seen is in a nearby ASDA!

I'm currently drinking a La Vache Folle Columbus Double IPA. It is one of the nicest IPA's I've had. Its a very copperish colour and a little bit sweet. It really is delicious.

DrinkStore tell me they have Black Tokyo Horizon on the way.

Have some Timothy Taylor Landlord, one of the nicest bottled ales on the market, would love to try it on tap, hoping to be in London soon and will check it out.

It's very different on draught, and much nicer if you get a good pint. Unfortunately my hit rate in London has been one out of three pints drinkable.

I think it's usually on in The Harp and they look after their beer there. Though I'd trade up to Harvey's Best in a heartbeat.

1 outta 3 is bad, at least the bottles are consistent.

Good stuff. Although some of the recent Brew Dog special brews are far too expensive. I was tempted to try their Bitch Please the other night but for the same price I got an Odell Myrcenary and a Flying Dog Dog Schwarz.

I'm a big fan of their beers but some are ridiculously expensive. I appreciate they are limited edition brews mind. I need someone to buy them as a present!

This week for me it's been:

    Little Creatures Pale Ale
    Hopback Summer Lightning
    Innis & Gunn Rum cask
    Coniston Bluebird

All really enjoyable. Bluebird has replaced Landlord as my default bitter, for now at least. Also picked up a Brewdog Paradox Isle of Arran from the Arran distillery itself, to be consumed this weekend. Something tells me I'm going to regret only buying the one bottle....

Just got these 2 to try later, heard good things about this brewery, love the bottle design, kind of classically minimalist.

    Ola Dubh 18.

Saw it going cheap in Bradley's, Cork, and I liked the 12/16 so figured what the hell. It's good stuff, very smooth, dark and sweet, not too rich.

    Belgian night tonight!

    2 X Rochefort 8
    2 X Westmalle Triple
    2 X Chimay Blue
    2 X Duvel

Anyone that's spent some time in Belgium will be familiar with them providing a ramakin of assorted nuts and gouda cubes with what they call their 'special beers' (trappiste, abbey beers, etc.). Or you can go all out and order a 'portion mixed' which is a plate of salami, gherkin, pickled onions and gouda cheese served with celery salt. Excellent munchies when drinking strong beer! You don't eat it all at once but pick away as you are drinking - doesn't fill you up and get in the way of the beer, actually enhances the flavour.

Quite simple to make at home:

^ Looks delicious, I'll make a note to try that when I'm having some Belgians in the future.

That and the portion mixed and the feed I had about two hours previous before getting stuck in.
