The purple colour of them seems like a bizarrely uninspiring choice
's 'cos you're not from Galway, boy*. Up the Tribesmen!

*yes yes, neither is the beer, but that's not the point.

It may actually be as simple as that. I was flummoxed why anyone would pick purple.

They've always had maroon and white as the brand colours. The bottle label just lays on the maroon a bit thicker.

8 Degrees Howling Gale Ale, easy to drink, nice brew, looking forward to trying there red and porter, anyone know where stocks them?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 12,128 Mod ✭✭✭✭BeerNut

The red is on draught in L. Mulligan. Grocer but I don't think the bottles have appeared yet. It is bottled, though, so it won't be long. Chances are it'll be sold wherever you got the Howling Gale.

The porter hasn't been brewed yet AFAIK.

Superquinn are doing a 6 for €12 deal on selected craft beers at the minute.

Got some Adnams Bitter. Never tried it before. Also picked up some Porterhouse Red and Hofbrau Lager

Truly felt like a kid in a candy store when I stepped into Holland's of Bray yesterday and saw the big fridges at the back with heaps of unrecognisable beers.

Was in a rush to get to the Derry match so didn't have much time to browse and just grabbed.

    Anchor Steam Beer
    Sierra Nevada stout
    Sierra Nevada Porter
    Sierra Nevada Bigfoot 2011 Barleywine
    Black Rock Irish Stout
    McGrath's Irish Red
    Eight Degrees Howling Gale Ale
    Brew Dog 5.A.M Saint
Goose Island 312 Wheat Beer (Obama's favourite apparently)
    Galway Hooker

Big fan of Sierra Nevada pale ale so hopin the other 3 don't disappoint. Really wish there was anywhere near that kind of selection up here in the north.

Unfortunately the Metalman they had on cask there seemed to be finished, which I was sorry about. Anywhere else currently still got it?

I might be mistaken, but I think they have the Windjammer on tap at Bull & Castle. Greats brew both of them, but I can't wait for the Hop Head to be back on a sort-of regular fashion.

8 Degrees Howling Gale Ale lovely lightly hopped ale.

Haven't had it before so wasn't sure what to expect. Very definite a good session beer I reckon.

Sunburnt Irish Red from 8 degrees brewing in Mulligans last night is a lovely red ale.
It's so tough going there these days as I love having a Metalman or Galway Hooker which are probaly my fav Irish beers at the moment. Thank god O'Haras isn't on tap there or my brain would melt.

Picked up Galway hooker bottles from Drinkstore which I look forward to later with my dinner.

Considered the worst beer in the world. Tastes like metallic water.

    Their sales would suggest otherwise.

How do sales equate with quality? News of The World was the biggest selling Sunday newspaper in the world and it was complete garbage too.

Wouldn't call it lightly hopped. It has a fair punch of bitterness.

They don't, but who decides that it's "considered the worst beer in the world"?

We sell pallets of miller at work every week. The people who buy it don't buy it for the taste. We sell lots of it because it's dirt cheap. If all these people drank beer for the flavour we would be selling lots more beers like hobgoblin/innis&gunn etc.

At the end of the day lads, each to their own & all that. If someone thinks miller is great stuff thats up to them really.

Personally i think miller is absolutely tasteless dishwater that i wouldn't drink even if it was free. I put it in the same slop category as carling, bud, fosters, royal dutch etc...

To be honest I didnt get that much of a hit from the bottle I had. I got a bit of bitterness but was no way stronger than O'Hara's or Sierra Nevada imo.
I also had eaten some spicy Japanese food and had some wasabi about an hour before hand so maybe that affected my judgment.

I have another bottle that I will try sometime this week.

Galway Hooker from a bottle almost like drinking it in a pub maybe a little less carbonbation but none the less I am delighted to be able to bring some bottles home for consumtion.

An also would be great to see pub stocking it that don't want the "inconvenience" of a keg of it

Very true would be a nice addition to any pub.

Was in the Bull&Castle and bottles of Galway Hooker were 5.40 while a pint was 4.40. I wanted to try the bottle to see if there was much difference but couldn't justify the extra euro!

Drink the pint and buy the bottle in a good off license
