Will we have the same coaching ticket for next season as we had this year

Head Coach, Backs Coach and Defense Coach: Joe Schmidt
    Forwards coach: Jono Gibbes
    Scrum coach: Greg Feek

They had the advantage this season of having a settled squad that kept defensive patterns together well. Otherwise Kurt McQuilken's departure as backs coach may have hurt a lot more. Is it a bit much to be asking Schmidt to do three jobs.

Spotted this on the LR Facebook.

One more time for the season...RELEASE THE BEAST!

Gaffney was backs coach, McQuilkan was defense!

    Just on the stand thing:

LB have been burnt by developments that do not future proof the club. Obviously Im talking about the stand redevelopment in donnybrook. I would assume that the planning and analysis work that goes into ground expansions would be based on continued success, but as a previous poster highlighted, in reality success may be short lived. Dont get my wrong I hope we keep winning and competing well into the future, but at a point we will go down hill. Seasonticket holder numbers will drop off and subsequently revenue.

On that basis and the economic difficulties we as an economy face and will continue to face, the Branch must take costing extremely seriously. Charging 500 a season ticket is a ridiculous amount to pay for one seat. I understand the economies of scale on a larger project will see the longer term costs decline but its a serious jump in prices. Not to mention the lost revenue for the 18 months or so it would take to build the stand. People cannot afford to shell out that kind of money in one go and I would hedge my bets on seeing a decline in numbers that year.

i think theyve made the calculated bet that we're not going to win the heineken cup every year but the numbers of people playing rugby in leinster is going to keep increasing at a steady rate, particularly in non traditional areas.

Regarding the suggestions about corporate boxes & facilities...

There has been a dramatic decrease in corporate income since the downturn - according to LR CEO Mick Dawson, this very lucrative revenue stream has taken a significant hit. For the near future at least, there is just no demand for vastly improved / expensive corporate facilities in the RDS.

And with the figure of a 26,000 capacity after the new stand is built, it looks like LR are not focusing on corporate hospitality, but rather increased capacity for the masses. Unlike Ravenhill's new stand, for example, which only sits 500 minus the corporate boxes and adjacent terrace...

Yeah that's a very fair point. I'm sure corporate income has declined sharply and I imagine is unlikely to recover anytime soon.

However I suspect part of that is partly down to poor corporate facilities currently in the RDS. Quite a lot of companies still spend on entertainment in Croke Park and the Aviva, and Leinster could compete for some of that as they are European champions and are the only professional sports club in the capital.

I agree this may not appear be the time to expand but if they are to renovate the facilities in the RDS anyway, then it would seem they could should be able to improve this side of the business from what is I think a fairly low base.

Good choice of dates for getting decent numbers of travelling fans, day before the England warm up game. pretty good test for non international Leinster players.

I notice that the venue is TBC are Leinster thinking about having it in the RDS if they there could be a big crowd over

There's hardly going to be many travelling fans for a pre-season friendly between severely weakened teams. And I would bet it's going to be in Donnybrook.

I went along to the Wasps friendly last year not realising it was €20 to get into the terrace. Definitely won't be going at that price this time around.

Edit - and on the issue of coporate boxes, imo it would be short sighted in the extreme to ignore it. Revenues are way down now, but Dawson continually talks about how Leinster are in the RDS for the long term, In 3 years, 5 years, whatever, it could be an excellent revenue stream again.

Its the day before an Ireland England match. That means there will be xx thousand English fans in Dublin and a good number of them might be willing to see a replay of the HEC final even if it is weakened teams. Especially if Leinster is decent about the prices

It really should be free to season ticket holders if in Donnybrook - like the A games. It would be a nice gesture especially after all the expense incurred by Leinster fans at the end of the season with the knockout games not part of the season ticket.

Also, if they get a big crowd and heavily promote merchandise, I bet they could close to recover the cost of free admission on merchandise sales alone. They could capitalize on the buzz of a nice summer evening and the post Heineken high and make a few quid.

The point of my post was that it's the day before Ireland v England. Many fans would head along to it at the right price.

Not that it means anything, but the new players have been added into the profiles section on the Leinster site, and the departing players have been removed.

Yeah, saw that. Don't think there was anything too surprising in there but did notice it confirms Sheriff is gone. Also, Shawe has been retained seemingly which I'm glad to see. Bit of a fairy tale there really. Working in a dentist's practice and playing with the boys a year ago and now he's a pro rugby player with a few HEC appearances and a winner's medal in his pocket.

Leinster to play the Melbourne Rebels in 19th August - now theres a pre season game I'll go and see!

    http://www.leinsterrugby.ie/newsroom/8166.php

Leinster set to face Rebels & Saints...

Leinster Rugby will face Super 15 franchise the Melbourne Rebels and fellow Heineken Cup finalists, Northampton Saints in Donnybrook ahead of the start of the RaboDirect PRO12 campaign...

The visit of the Australian side who boast a string of Wallaby internationals on their roster including the likes of Sam Cordingley, Stirling Mortlock, England’s Danny Cipriani as well as former Leinster second row Adam Byrnes will provide Leinster with a strong test before welcoming the Saints to Donnybrook a week later in what will be a replay of this year’s memorable Heineken Cup final. Commenting on the province’s pre-season plans, Leinster Coach Joe Schmidt said: “These two high-profile games, against top class opposition, will be very challenging which is ideal leading into the PRO12 campaign.
“Melbourne are a new franchise with high ambitions who boast a strong array of young and experienced talent.
“We know all about Northampton’s many qualities from their performances both in their domestic league and in Europe last year and both sides will provide us with a real test as we look to integrate some of our new signings into the panel ahead of the start of the PRO12.”
Leinster are delighted to announce that news of record Season Ticket sales for the coming season (covering 17 matches in the RaboDirect PRO12 league, Heineken Cup and British & Irish Cup, but not the two pre-season friendlies) have already passed the 13,000 mark.
Tickets for both friendlies will go on sale this Friday at 10am from www.leinsterrugby.ie and Ticketmaster outlets nationwide.
Friday, 19th August: Leinster v Melbourne Rebels (Donnybrook, 7pm)
Friday, 26th August: Leinster v Northampton Saints (Donnybrook, 7pm)

    Christ, Adam Byrnes...

He's made 29 Super 15 appearances, according to his profile on the Rebels website; the next time anyone tries to argue that the players in the Super 15 are better than in the HC or even the ML, they're getting that stat thrown in their face.

I think that's over two or more seasons... the teams have played 16 matches so far this season.

And if not for injury he wouldn't even be on the bench of the worst team in the competition. A totally brainless comment given that he couldn't even get a professional contract until Leinster signed him.

The Stand at €20 is pure BS. Just make it €10 and let everyone in. So ridiculous, same last year.

Turned up with a season ticket, and a student card, to be told that neither were any use to me, and I'd have to pay full price.

Then Joe Simpson came on with 25 minutes left and absolutely tore us apart. Wasps were pretty excellent that day actually.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,572 ✭✭✭WeeBushy

Making it €20 is nuts. A Magners league game last season was €30, so only a tenner less for what is ostensibly a meaningless pre-season game is crazy. No way am I paying that to go to the Northampton match, especially considering I want to go the the Ireland game the next day. Might go to the Rebels purely because its a team I'll otherwise never see in the flesh. Emmet's right, it should be €10 max - get as many people in there, have a bit of atmosphere and see if they can get a few more people hooked to Leinster.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,592 ✭✭✭GerM

They'll get big crowds even with those prices. The pre season friendlies have been priced similarly for several years now. The stand has a capacity of 2,500. The rest will be the €10 tickets or €5 for kids. Both matches are the nights before internationals against France and England respectively. There will be a lot of rugby supporters staying in and around D4 that weekend. There'll be plenty of people wanting to see the Rebels. The likes of Mortlock, Cordingly, Cipriani and Somerville are big names. The Northampton game will market itself after the final and there will be a glut of English fans in town.

Leinster will have a second/third team out and the Rebels are muck at the best of times. Mortlock will be with Australia and Cipriani won't be at the club at that stage. Cordingly wasn't a big name when he was half decent and that was 10 years ago. Clever marketing from from Leinster but its going to be their B&I Cup team against the dregs of Super 15.

For 20 quid you can get the 2011 HC DVD and 4 cans of Karpackie. I know which one I'd find better value.

Cordingley is retiring at the end of the season, commentators said it during one of the Rebels' games.

Fairly sure the prices are the same for the Munster preseason fixtures. I paid €20 (seated on the touchline on halfway) to go see London Irish at Musgrave Park a few seasons ago.

It's anywhere in the ground other than the stand . The terrace on the other side is about 5 rows high. But it's grand for half the price.

I remember paying £1 to watch schools matches in the 80s there.
