That's a good price. Was thinking it would be well over €500. I'd go for it as you can always cancel if they can't come up with a delivery.

    Hey,

Clove have an relatively alright price for the Desire:
    http://www.clove.co.uk/viewProduct.aspx?product=32C8AD9B-E300-4267-BEC1-DE55F02D0184

What would you suggest: pre-order now for earliest delivery but risk being stuck with Clove if they have stocking issues, or wait for it to come out and then shop around?

I went ahead and pre-ordered. £408 including VAT and shipping.

Their T&Cs say that they don't charge you until they dispatch. The price could go either up or down, in which case they'll notify you and you can cancel if you wish. (Looking at it cynically I wouldn't be surprised if a site advertised a low price, then up it a bit, and by then lots of people wouldn't bother changing their order).

I've gone ahead and done the same, ordered it. Maybe this will stop me looking at new phones for hours a day.

The website looks like a good one though, even has an international ordering FAQ.

Not sure when it is due to be released though. But I'm patient.

It says that the Desire is available the 7th of April if you go to the Nexus One page.

Preordered mine. Ordered it on Expansys. I know its bit more expensive but I have been using them for years so I just know the score with returns and stuff with them.

I suspect the price is going to jump significantly closer to the ship date. The nexus one is priced at £599 on expansys so I'd expect the desire to be close to this price.

HTC say it would be in around the 400 to 450 GBP mark.

It will be nowhere near 599 GBP

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 215 ✭✭Beno

I'm remaining optimistic and believe that there wont be much of a jump.

It will be a decent bit cheaper than the nexus one though. Since the nexus one is imported from the us and has not been properly released in Europe yet.

Its also cheaper to make since it has dropped the noise cancelling and a 3g band .

Ya Im gonna say 499 euro will be the final price your paying for the google part of the nexus aswell

The desire is available from the 1st in the UK, countdown here

€479 seems to be the sale price on the main sites here in Germany, but the release date here is after Easter, April 7th.

I'm undecided between this and the nexus, I prefer the desire and sense ui, it's just the delay that will come with each new os update that has me undecided!

And riddled with mistakes. It calls Eclair the sexier looking interface, location specific functions are due to GPRS and Shazam will link you to iTunes:confused:

Seems like a phishing website to me.

Not sure how legit it is, site is registered to a company called Bright Blue Interactice, and they seem to be a specialist company in brand marketing. Looks legit enough to me, they have some high profile clients listed. Either way, a few of the UK sites like Amazon and Expansys are also showing April 1st as release date.

Expansys is the 6th or the 10th depending on what one you look at.

Ah, my mistake, thought I had read the 1st on their site. So just Amazon are showing April 1st at the moment, not sure how accurate that would be.

Same here, I was hoping to have it to play with over Easter... hmm, desire or nexus.

On a sort of related note, the 32gb microsd cards are now finally available, cheapest I've seen is €120, but haven't looked to hard!

Im taking desire. Really looking forward to getting it.

I'm just hoping Clove.co.uk's 7th April date will give them enough units to fulfil my order!

Would the nexus be a better buy and have better support from google as it would possibly receive updates much quicker than the desire given you have to rely on htc to release updates.
Any delays would be due to the integration of htc sense with any new updates.
    Is this thinking right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,760 ✭✭✭Theta

People have been giving out stink about googles level of support for the Nexus one because it is nearly non existent.

Yeah, HTC are slow to push out updates due to the way they integrated sense ui into android. But I find sense a nicer ui than the default. But there is always the option to mix and match the roms between the devices, there is already a desire image for nexus that seems to work ok.

Yeah read that somewhere when it was released first but don't know about now.
But by support I meant support for updates not device issues. Google have already released an update with google goggles and multi-touch.
I like both devices, very similar anyway, just who will provide regular updates.
I wonder when flash 10.1 is released which device will get it first. I'd guess nexus and a month to desire. Pure speculation on my part of course.

I have read that flash 10 is bundled with the desire at release so it should be on it when you get it.

Now that you mention it I think your right. Still I would wonder about future updates from HTC. Anyway trying to decide on which to go for.
Leaving behind the nokia n900 which is great but don't have the programming knowledge to get its full potential.

Im leaving behind a N97, Ill never get a symbian handset again unless there is some serious work done on symbian. Its a mess when it comes to being used for touch screen.

Wow only £15 price difference between the Desire and Legend on clove. Would have thought it'd be a more significant gap

that really doesn't seem right to me. Is it possible Clove have their pricing all messed up? The desire is over 70sterling more expensive on Expansys AND on amazon.co.uk. In fact I'm beginning to think Clove defo have it messed up. The desire is over 100sterling cheaper than all the other main retailers for the HTC desire?

They've updated their first stock to 29th March (was going to be 7th April), nice.

this is ridiculous...seriously considering canceling my expansys.co.uk order (due april 6th). are these guys reliable (clove.co.uk)? anyone ordered before? good with returns or problems?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,760 ✭✭✭Theta

Im just waiting on someone to give me a firm release date damnit!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,287 ✭✭✭100gSoma

I've ordered it on Clove. I'll leave my expansys order for now and just cancel it if clove do ship a week earlier than expansys. mind you, Clove appear quite a bit cheaper... fingers crossed.

This is from their conditions about pricing and pre orders:

    "How to Pre-Orders work?

We often post information on new products on the website ahead of their launch in order to give you the opportunity to pre-order the device. If we have stated in the description that this is a pre-order, then it means you will place an order in the normal way with all your details. This gives you the opportunity to get one of the first devices when the product is released.

Whilst you will enter your credit card details, no payment will be taken until the product comes into stock. You are able to cancel this pre-order right up to the date of shipment. The price shown can sometimes be an estimate and whilst we try and make this as accurate as we can, it may change up or down before shipment. If the price does change we will inform you before shipment of this and give you the opportunity to re-confirm or cancel your order."

    Seems fair enough

Out of boredom i've been looking through clove's website, They seem quite honest and come across as more "local" or personal. They have a pretty good blog with reviews, news and product releases and they respond to comments,

I've also had a quick look at any forums that discuss clove and there doesn't seem to any bad stuff said about them.

I highly doubt that this is a scam website. Its too elaborate and no shadiness about it.

I actually think that they wont change the price now! And am willing to place a small bet on it

Loads of people on here have purchased off clove and they are pretty well known but I think they will change the price when they get a definite one.

What about a small 2 euro bet on that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,287 ✭✭✭100gSoma

I have emailed clove about the pre-orders and the due date of March 29th. You cannot get more honest and upfront than their reply.
They seem legit and reliable and are also a HTC certified partner.

Thank you for your e-mail. We have contacted both our supplier and HTC and this has been confirmed. Please note that all the stock expected to arrive on the 29th March is already committed to pre-orders placed, however the next delivery is then confirmed as the 2nd April.

We hope this information is useful and hope to hear from you again soon

My work purchased three HTC touch cruise's when they came out first from Clove a couple of years ago and had no problems whatsoever.

I can vouch for clove too in fact they were even pretty decent replacing a phone for me which had a dead pixel and minor screen imperfection (still had to kick up a fuss but they replaced it!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,391 ✭✭✭5500

Clove are great to deal with, I've bought from them before and never had a problem at all, Id say pre order away!

Tempted to go with clove now.

If you're very familiar with Expansys, I see an argument for staying with what you know best.

But otherwise, why not go with Clove? They're £50 cheaper.

Tis a BH the Friday and the Monday so you wont get it till the Tue/Wed.

I was wondering why the .ie said the 6th when the .co.uk said the 2nd.

Actually thinking about this how does this work?

Will royal mail just not ship anything to Ireland on those two days or will they ship and some staff on Ireland will take delivery but just let it sit in a warehouse all weekend?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,287 ✭✭✭100gSoma

expansys.ie have been running the Desire Shipping date as 4 days after the UK expansys site since the beginning. It was originally UK on the 6th and Ireland on the 10th. Now its UK on the 2nd and Ireland on the 6th.
The Irish site are obviously just getting supplied by Expansys UK when they get stock from HTC.

I've canceled my order with Expansys and gone with Clove. With the Bank holiday (as mentioned) you won't get it till Tue/Wed from either crowd anyway. Clove deliver Fed Ex too, and as pointed out, the phone is over £50 sterling cheaper including VAT and Del to Ireland. Can't argue with that.

It has today been confirmed that the HTC Desire will be arriving now on the 29th March. Just over a week ahead of schedule you will be able to get your hands on a HTC Desire sooner than you may have expected.

The stock is SIM Free, unlocked and Graphite in colour. We will be shipping the first unit from Monday the 29th.

Want. Really badly! But it'll be june before I have the money. Any idea of price in teh states which is where I'll be when I have money?

Might wait the extra week until some solid reviews appear online.
