I have a phone interview today. I was wondering if there is anyone who has taught with Sabis who would be willing to share their experiences? Cheers!

How long after you applied did you get the phone interview?
I am just finalising my application.
Could I ask if you have much teaching experience?

    Thanks :)

    Hiya

I submitted an application before Christmas, there was a Sabis stand at the careers fair in UCD and the deadline for applications was the 1st of January. I heard back from them on the 26th of December and they requested a phone interview the following day the 27th December but I didn't see the email until a few days later. However when I read the General Information Sheet http://www.iscdxb-sabis.net/Gulfapplicants/ that they had sent me and after some further research I decided that it wasn't for me.
However, I got a call this Sunday asking if I would still be interested in a phone interview. I was still very unsure, but I have actually just spoken to someone who taught with them and he said that overall it was a positive experience.
From this evidence, I would say that they are definitely still looking for people, so you might hear back quite soon. To be honest, I have no teaching experience nor have I done the H-dip etc. or even TEFL (although I'm considering doing one now) The nearest thing I have is working as a volunteer tutor with primary school children in a homework club. So I don't think experience is essential, it seems they give you very intensive training anyway.
Sorry to go on, hope this helps! Best of luck with the application.

Thanks a mill for the information!

I emailed them last week asking about the jobs and they sent me all of the information so I presume that there are still positions.
The application form is quite detailed...did you spend a long time on it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 Shantih

Actually I remember now that was another thing that put me off orginally, so no I didn't. They just rang me out of the blue on Sunday so they really must be looking for people!

    Hi Guys,
I've also applied to SABIS and had my phone interview back in February. They got back to me the following week and offered me a second interview which was to take place (in Dublin) mid-end of March. They've since said that the interviews in Dublin are postponed until on or around 16th April. So...
UL, I'm taking you did yours in Limerick! How much time did they give you to decide whether or not you're going to take the job? And did they say much about the visa procedure? My passport expires in December so I'm going to have to get a new one befoer leaving (if i get the job) which is going to be a whole barrel of laughs given the passport office FIASCO! But I'll probably need it to get a visa so I'm worried if I send it too soon I won't get the visa and too late and I won't get a flight!
Also, was the interview ok? Very formal attire or no?

I only sent off my application and stuff on Tuesday.
How long was it before you heard back from them originally?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2 gill8

Well I didn't fill out the application to start with , I just emailed them saying I was interested and attached my CV. That was on a Wednesday, had a missed call from them on the Sunday and an email on the Monday saying I'd been shortlisted for a phone interview the following Monday. They also told me to fill in the application, send them a copy of my passport etc.
After the phone interview (about 25 minutes, mostly based on the answers you gave in the application form) it was about two weeks before I got an email saying I'd been successful and giving me details of the face to face interviews.
As I said before, the Dublin interviews are apparently around 16th April, so all going well you should have plenty of time to go through the procedures and still make it.

Just a website ye might want to be aware of. Take from its existence what ye will; I have no personal experience to corroborate its accuracy.

    Hi All,

I sent a CV and cover note to SABIS on Tuesday.

My friend did the same a couple of weeks back and yesterday was offered a position-she was sent an application form by e-mail and did not apply directly to the available posts online.

Has anybody else heard from them recently/does anybody know if there are still positions available?

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭Fitzilicious

    Hi,

I was due to have an interview on Sunday but I had to cancel it last minute.
So I would assume that there are still positions.

    Thanks!

    Fingers crossed.

How did you apply originally-did you contact them directly first with a CV or did you apply through the positions available online?

    :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭Fitzilicious

I just sent an email enquiring, they then sent me application and I filled those out.
I then had a phone interview the beginning of April.

It was all pretty straight forward.

    Pay is €1,300 per month.

    Cool.

Did they take long to get back to you?

    Sorry for all the questions!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭Fitzilicious

Around a week or two I think!

Thanks a million for all your answers.

Hopefully I hear back from then soon.

Good luck with your next interview too.

    :)

I had an interview with Sabis. I have no experiences. I have only read some websites about this school and it really confused me because I did not really read any good about them. I have a contract, I have not signed it yet. ..don't know what to do..

    Hey guys,

I was offered a job in Dubai city, and sent my contract off there last week. I'm running around now trying to get clearance forms, and letters from college sorted. I'm flying out around 25th august (flights being booked by personnel officer next week) and can't wait! Has anyone else signed a contract?

hi, i just sent an email to Sabis enquiring about positions, havent heard back yet, anyone know if there has been interviews etc for the past few weeks?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11 Cogar

Has anyone actually got their flight details yet!?! I'm contracted to Ras-al Khaimah for the year and apparently I will be there for the 25th of August....but no contact since I gave them all the details and forms that they required...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9 UL2008

The school themselves seem to be booking it so I wouldn't worry-I think anyone that has flights booked are all from the school in Dubai!

    Hey everyone,

I've just finished my MA in English and I'm really interested in teaching English in the UAE (esp. Dubai) with SABIS. Finding it hard to find much concrete info on them online. Just sorting out my academic cv at the moment and hoping to email them a job application at the end of the week.
With a 1H BA in English and Psych, and a 1H MA in English, I'm hoping my chances of getting a good job over there are high.
Does anyone know do they take on people all year round? Do the kids have school during the summer there? Any phone interview tips if i get a call back?

    Much appreciated,
Feel free to PM me if you have experience working for them.
    Thanks :)

Has anyone on this forum actually had experience with working with Sabis. Do they encourage their teachers to do the PGCE with Sunderland? After doing the PGCE does the salary rise accordingly?

Any feedback from people who have worked with them???

Had a phone interview in November-ish, then they asked me for references and garda clearance... So sent them off, asked them how my application was progressing to which they said 'keep posted for further communication'.
I was hoping for something more solid, like confirmation that I've moved onto the second interview stage. But no word from they yet!
Has anyone had any similar experiences? Being kept on your toes with no word for ages but then word of an interview closer to the time?!

I had a phone interview the first week of Decemeber, was offered a teaching position by them 30mins after I got off the phone. However this is a position starting this month - there was an opening in one of their schools. They are already recruiting for August 2011. I thought they only ask for garda clearance/references etc after you've been offered a job? There is a cost involved in getting degrees authenticated and translated etc.

Thanks for replying PinkHeels. I'm going to take it as a good sign that they asked for clearance and references after the interview!
Good luck over there, where exactly are you headed?
Hope all goes well and experience is positive.

Do you have to have the diploma in education/ PGCE qualification for SABIS?

I want to teach Mathematics. I am finishing up a Physics degree.

Thanks very much natcoco! I'm heading to Muscat, Oman. Just east of the United Arab Emirates. Just waiting to hear about my flights now!:o

Nope all you need is a college degree, I have an MA in English but any undergraduate degree qualifies you for a teaching position. You might end up teaching kindergarden/lower primary level though without teaching experience.

Can anyone who has worked with Sabis provide some feedback. I have researched them online and the feedback is extremely negative. You would be lucky to find one positive review. I'm a bit concerned by it. Even filling in the application form you feel like you are signing away all of your rights.

Whats the salary like? I seen 1300 euros a month on this board somewhere. Is that right? Seems a bit low for a teaching salary.

I'm wondering this too. Have heard awful things about Sabis.

But having said that, my girlfriend's friend is out there with Sabis and is having a ball but the overwhelming negativity on the net is of some concern.

So if anyone's with Sabis, please let us know.

    Kraggy,
Are you thinking of heading out there??
It's good to hear that people are having a good time out there.

    Hi Guys

Iv recently applied for a teaching job with Sabis in Dubai! I had my intense phone interview 2 weeks ago and gladly found out that I am through to the next stage of face to face interviews in April 2011! However before the face to face interview I have to send them a cv video...Has anyone ever had to do that? Anyone ever had a face to face interview? What was it like? I am qualified as a teacher and would really like to explore education in Dubai so any advise, information and tips would be of real help! Thanks guys x

Hi, I have been teaching with SABIS for 15 years. I am from Dublin. I have taught in many of their schools and love it. Yes there are many bad things on the net about them but the funny thing is that most of their staff are Irish and none of the things are written by Irish. Some poeple from other nationalities with an axe to grind about SABIS started a smear campaign a few years ago .

I would say 99% of those who go have a great experience but unfortunately they dont write about it whilst a tiny few have had bad experiences and have shared this on the net.

Generally people love to complain but when they have a good experience they dont share it. When was the last time you ate in a restaraunt and called the waiter over to tell them the meal was really nice? Never, probably. However if you were unhappy with the food or service would you complain? More than likely. Check this blog www.sabisspeaks.wordpress.com

Yeah, salary may be around that at the start (but can increase very fast depending on the person, i have seen this happen often). Also is tax free, appartment free rent, water, elec, furniture, private health insurance, travel to and from work, government gratuity end of each year and bonus (tax free after 2 years) I dont think is really to be sniffed at. I constantly compare my net here with what it would be in Ireland and factor everything in and know I am way better off here than at home.:D
