Private Boards Tourney - how would it work?

    Hola -

was just thinking (following on from the other "on tonight?" thread) it'd be good to have a boards league of CoD.
Anyone any suggestions of how we could run it?
People can get on at different times, so it'd probably be best to have a series of matches, rather than one "winner takes all" type thing.

So, just throwing it out there, my suggestion would be that we try to register teams of three (or four) and play squad vs squad. We open a thread for people to enter, and then draw up a fixture list. Matches could be played whenever suits the two teams, you'd have say 5 days to complete a fixture.

    anyone up for it?

    Yeah, it's a nice idea. Here's a couple of questions/suggestions..
    • Teams drawn at random from people who post here, or make up your own team to enter??
    • Range of game modes, or just TDM? If you are having a League style, it might be tricky to get loads of teams to play each other in loads of different gamemodes etc.
    • What about some 1v1 game modes also? Using Rust.

both, I'd say - if you have enough to form a team, cool, if not, then your name goes into a hat and you'd be assigned a team.

agreed - I'd say TDM would be the best. Also, I think we should have each game as [3/5/7] rounds, with the same maps being used (maybe the "home" team could pick one map)
What about some 1v1 game modes also? Using Rust.
yep - that'd be pretty cool too.

Depending on how many teams/people sign up , you could either hold a double -elim or a swiss tourney ,better than the usual knockouts.

we'll leave things open for a week or so and see how many we get.

The one thing is tho, that you should probably only stick your name down if you can be sure that you'll be able to get at least an hour on at the same time each week, and that time should be probably between 7 and 11 to make the thing viable. Otherwise it'd be a nightmare trying to get six to eight strangers together in time to keep the standings current.

My connection in that time range forces me out ,unless they decide to upgrade the exchange in the next week :rolleyes:

First tip, is to unlock the Emergency Airdrop asap, and gift all packs to your team mates. (Apart from maybe a Chopper Gunner or AC130.) You get far more points for sharing that you would from kills using the contents. It works out at 50XP for every kill needed for that reward. So gifting a Pred Missile or Sentry Gun gets you 250XP (50*5), which is basically an extra 150-200XP over what you can normally get from using them. The Harrier Strike/Attack Heli gets you 350 (50*7), Pavelow/StealthB 450 XP etc etc. If you know the other team are running stinger/coldblooded, it might even be worth letting your teammate take a AC/CG streak for the 550 XP. Getting 11 kills with them is quite hard nowadays.

You can end up getting nearly 1000 XP from one Emergency Airdrop. At level 10 for example this is 50% of the way towards level 11. At level 20, it's 8.5%. After level 30 (3%, it's benefit drops off and the danger of losing the care packages makes it not worth the hassle)

This (50XP * Kills) multiplier also counts for CarePackages. Might be worth considering for that too, although much less beneficial overall, plus gives away your locations.

Secondly, focus on getting 150 kills on every gun, rather than going for the 300/500/1000 kills. That is the quickest XP:Kill ratio possible.

Those two ways are good ways of speeding up your run to level 40 ish. After that it gets a little slower but you should be able to compete in boards matches at that level.

Loads, but I gotta hold some of them back so I've got any chance against you!! ;)

I seen last night that your k:d ratio is up to something like 1.7 now? Sweet.

Just read this back and thought I should clarify it a bit.

If you start off on the M4 at level 1 and get to 150 kills, you'll have gotten 8750XP. You now have a choice. Go to 300 kills with the M4 and get the 10,000XP on offer, or else get 150 kills using the Famas and then another 150 using the SCAR for the same total number of kills. Doing the double gun method, you'll have 17,500XP for your 300 kills instead of just the 10,000XP. That is the minimum, because if you manage to get 30 headshots as part of the 150 with each of FAMAS and SCAR, you'll actually end up with 22,500XP. (Just the 15 headshots with each gun still gets you 19,500XP)

Naturally, you can go back to these challenges later to get the 300/500/750/1000 kills etc, but it means you can jump levels quicker to get to around level 45. By this level you have unlocked loads of key item such as Cold Blooded (lvl 25), Ninja(29), Stinger (30), Claymore(31), Striker(34), Raffica(38) and M16(40). It can even help to get the ACR(48) or even the M1014(54) which is my favourite gun in the game. (Get 400 kills and run with bling Perk for Grip & Extended Mags (6 rounds) combined. Beast!) .

Jeez, I don't sit down to work out these things myself!! I'm like a magpie picking up shiny tips from other people along the way, mostly YouTube guys. :D I tend to spend lunch watching a few videos and get tips from there. For example, I heard about the 150 kills from one of them, and a quick google search confirmed the numbers pretty quickly. (I do have a reasonable bookmark section for loads of MW2 sites though)

I also heard another YouTube commentator mention about the EAD XP tip.

They have thousands of people subscribed to them, all offering little bits. They then compile the good bits into video, so you can get the benefit of it. :)

I'm not sure if it'd be on one date, trilla, I was thinking of something over a number of weeks. Lets say that we'll try to get 30 people ready to go by March 17th and take it from there - sound doable?
