How committed are the A/R/Tists eh? LENT 2010

Had a fun debate about this with somone lately. Some people still use LENT for the intended spiritual purpose but for most it represents a period of significant abstinance or test of will power. So all of us A/R/Tists are great at nailing our run targets to the mast.. how about a LENT challenge where potentially everyone can win it. Easy just state what it is you are giving up and post it.

Everyone who puts the name on the list is in. You break it, take your name off and you are out! Simple as.

Just a bit of fun but may even help to boost some run performances in the spring eh ;) We have the weekend to think about it, but make it a good one and make it specific. Someone said to me the other day that giving up the sugary stuff would be tough but they could get through it. I upped the ante and suggested they give up tea!! The look of horror I got was priceless :D

Starts Ash wednesday.... lasts 40 days and 40 nights I think...

The list that is up on Pancake Tuesday stands.. no additions after Tuesday!!!! Whats it gonna be folks?

OK interesting one MCOS - good idea. I have the weekend to think about it, I need to mentally think through the consequences of giving up chocolate (severe anxiety, pain, general woe.....)

One of the housemates asked me what I was going to be giving up yesterday.

I just laughed at her, especially when she suggested I give up the internet.

Apparently, Derval O'Rourke is giving up the internet [edit] (though only for a day). So, you'd be in good company there. I wonder does she ever take a look in here ....:pac:

I think I'll give up buying magazines for Lent. Although they are all full of the same celeb/wag/scandal stuff, I buy at least three a week. Might get them out of my system for good :o I won't even glance through on in the shop, or read my friends ones!

Or does it have to be something food/drink related?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,450 ✭✭✭meathcountysec

I'll give up sticking my head into the goodie-press i.e. no more crisps, biccies, choccie etc. :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭pgibbo

Sweets, chocolate bars and crisps are what I give up for lent.

Are we allow break the fast on St. Patricks Day? :D

Going to be tough going without these on the ski trip at the end of the month. :pac:

Just the other day I told my better half I'd give up sweets for lent. And to her reply "but you are not religious!" I answered "It's about the sugar, not religion"

Sugar it is. No chocolate, sweets, sugar in coffee and so on.

Gels for long runs are the exception (but only for 20 miles or more :D)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,659 ✭✭✭tisnotover

    sweets, choc bars and crisps.

I am NOT giving up biscuits...I need an outlet, couldn't give up fig-rolls! ;)

Remember folks put it up by Tuesday or feic off!! Once your pledge is down you are in! Break it even once (no exceptions - not even Paddies Day) you are off the list...

I suspect these are the reason that despite going from 0-30 miles a week on average (including a marathon) I have not lost a pound . I'll use this as an experiment to see if it is possibke to go below 75 kg.
