Lets pretend there wasn't any football on today

Kerry were absolutely brilliant today , we gave up just before half time and minded the bodies for the qualifiers , we didn't seem to.be too bothered about the outcome of the game from about 25minutes on wards

Lost the first half 0-16 to 0-4
Lost the second half 0-16 to 0-6

Not good enough regardless of the difference in resources towards football in both counties we are much better then that and we will need to show it the next day out

simply put, if tipp beat clare and waterford lose one of their remaining games its tipp on third as  even if clare beat limerick both teams will have 4 points and tipp will go through on head to head, points difference only comes into it if 3 teams finish level on points.

If Waterford beat cork , cork Will finish up on 4 points also but realistically we have to get something out of thurles next weekend

I don't think head to head comes into it because it was deemed too much of an advantage to be at home

Pretty sure it's head to head if 2 teams level on points.
Scoring difference then if they drew or if more than 2 teams level on points

What would be the best outcome for Limerick (apart from beating Waterford) between Tipp and Clare?

I'd be thinking a Clare victory as that takes Tipp out of it.

Looking at the table, if Clare beat Tipp and Limerick beat Waterford that means both are through to the playoffs and the last round of games is just to decide who goes to the Munster final and who is third with the added incentive that Clare could put Cork third.

First time poster here. Can anyone shed any light into how preparations are getting on for the Clare U20 Footballers ahead of the Munster Championship semi-final against the winners of Cork and Tipp in 2 weeks time? How have challenge matches been getting on for the U20 Footballers in recent months for the Seamus Clancy managed outfit? Can you confirm if the likes of Joe McGann, Jack Morrissey, Damien O'Loughlin and Dermot Coughlan have committed to play for the U20 footballers. In general what type of team can we expect from this team and finally how many clubs are represented on the panel?

If these players that I mentioned in the above are available for selection for the U20's then I think a Munster Final appearance is very much a real possibility. However they will most likely will face old adversaries Kerry in the final. Anyone with info on the how preparations are getting on for the U20 footballers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Why would this be the best outcome for Limerick? If Clare lose and Limerick win, Limerick are in a Munster Final irrespective of the game in Ennis between the counties as Clare can reach a maximum of only four points. Clare losing is clearly the best outcome for Limerick. This is the case irrespective of Limerick's own fate against Waterford.

    My head hurts.

If Clare and Limerick both win then going into the last round of games Limerick 5, Cork 4, Clare 4, Tipp 2, Waterford 1. Limerick need to get a result of Clare to be guaranteed a final place but are guaranteed a top 3.

If Limerick win and Clare lose going into the last round of games Limerick 5, Cork 4, Tipp 4, Clare 2, Waterford 1. Limerick are guaranteed a top 2 place and Clare are hoping for Waterford to win against Cork to get in the top 3.

If Limerick (3) lose and Clare (4) win then going into the last round, Cork 4, Clare 4, Waterford 3, Limerick 3, Tipp 2. Clare are hoping for a Cork win/draw to be sure of a top 3 if they win, Limerick are through to the top 3 with a win/draw

If Limerick (3) and Clare (2) lose, going into the last round of games Cork 4, Tipperary 4, Waterford 3, Limerick 3, Clare 2. Clare will need to beat Limerick and have Waterford win/draw to get in a top 3.

The best result for Limerick would be for them to beat Waterford, ultimately they need to win 1 of their remaining matches, having Clare lose against Tipp means a draw would be enough for Limerick to get to the final.

not 100% sure how the u20s are setting up , it was a strong minor team a few years ago losing by 5 to kerry at home before a one point defeat to tipperary that year , both teams cantered to the minor final that year in croke park where kerry went on to win well

i would fancy our chances against either cork or tipperary in the semi final but the worry would be kerry in the final if we did progress ,a vast number of last weeks debutantes who did the damage against us in kilarney would still be underage

i will try and find out over the next week how things are shaping up , i really hope we can convince the likes of jack morrissey and joe mcgann to commit next year to the seniors , i believe the likes of dermot coughlan will when he is old enough to become available

the work seamus has done should not go unnoticed underage over the last few years some really really good players have come from his development squads onto the senior team

Very emotional stuff from Gerry O'Connor pre-match in his interview with Clare McNamara. Look the last few months has been extremely tough for the people of Clare with several tragedies causing huge hardship for all the county. Lets just say that Clare will die in their boots today for those affected and are proud Clare men. Best to luck to one and all.

    No idea how that happened!!

Difference of inches between a hiding and victory. If Tipp had scored that goal, there could have been ten in it at end.

Loughnane said he's going driving home through Toomevara and Nenagh. :):)

Great to finally win a significant championship game. Thought we were going to let it slip again. So many first half wides, giving Tipp handy scores after working so hard to get them ourselves etc. Some great scores at the end, think the rest last week made the difference at that stage of the game. Thought the ref was poor, very inconsistent at times. Ennis will be hopping next week.

    Limerick will be the test.

The pressure is off.for us though, we have qualified and we have beaten tipp (not our greatest performance though). The atmosphere in enis wil be electric next sunday, bring on limerick to hell!! We have nothin to lose!!

Really thought it was gonna be another one of those days! Wide after depressing wide. If a result like that in thurles doesn't give this team the kick on they needed to make a mark on the championship, nothing will!

Great win, without playing so great! Very important for this group of players to finally win a high stakes championship game, it should really stand to them.

Conlon, Duggan and Podge hit top drawer points at the death in front of the new stand to pull us over the line. Great leadership from them. Thought the subs that came on made a good difference. When Michael Ryan decided to put Pauric Maher on the wing, and Brendan Maher to follow Kelly, we were eventually able to hit good direct ball to the space inside. Podge really came alive today with more space in that 30-40 yard area out from goal where he is at his best. Backs were very good today it must be said, particularly the full back line.

I know there's not a whole lot that can be done in a week, but Clare really need to improve they're handling, it was very bad. The shooting improved alot in the second half tbf.

Jeez, where else would any Clare man want to be, but Cusack Park next Sunday. What a game to look forward to!

So no tickets left for next week via tickets.ie or Centra. I tried to buy mine on the way out today while in traffic but failed. Anyone has a spare one I’ll take it!!

Savage win today, looked like next week was only going to be a run out for the subs but it’s more than that now! Massive chance for us, they’ll take beating but I think we can do it!

I love to see Clare doing well but I spent 60 minutes of that game yesterday thinking they were a shambles.

Incredibly poor first touch (by several) bad wides (again) bad decision making (again) poor management approach and yet, we won.

I was watching it with my auld fella and just before Clare scored the goal we were ranking the All Ireland contenders and had Galway, Limerick, Cork, Kilkenny, Tipperary, ahead of them with a sense that games between them and Dublin/Wexford could go either way. Waterford have had the worst luck in terms of injuries and that umpire call to be fair to them.

Am I being overly pessimistic or did the goal and subsequent points (which were fantastic) paper over a lot of cracks?

It's a funny one - Clare were the width of the base of the post from being nearly knocked out and then went and won by two so there is very fine margins in games this year. It's a good sign of a team's attitude that they stick with it and keep close even when not playing well.

As a Limerick fan I'd have us marginal favourites in a neutral venue but that bear pit in Ennis will make it red hot on Sunday. Lynch and Kelly at midfield could give exhibitions of hurling.

From watching this Clare team for the last fewyears, they seem like a streaky team where they could hit ten unbelievable scores one day and the same ten would be awful wides on another!

No it's a fair analysis, the team didn't play well as a whole. If Morris hits the ball 2 inches to the other side of the post, we would be probably done. Our touch, handling and shooting in the first half was just a bad as the under-performances we have been used to these past few years with this team. They badly need to improve significantly if they are to beat a talented and confident Limerick team. I feel Tipp following around Kelly in the second half allowed our forwards to get alot of space in the second half, something Limerick won't allow with Hannon next Sunday.

Having said all that, the big difference though between yesterday and the last couple of years though was when the chips were down, the team finally came through. Patch, McInerney, Conlon, Podge, SOD and Duggan really stepped up and showed great leadership, something this team hasn't done since '13. Things like for our goal, Conlon's grabbed a 40 yard pass under pressure, laid out a hit to a Tipp man and released Podge through middle. SOD diving to stop a Tipp back getting the ball into his hand before Duggan scored a point. There were several brilliant point's scored at the death too. It was great to see.

Yeah, Conlon's catch, shoulder, pass combination was a delicious 2 seconds of hurling so too was SOD's diving possession win and Duggans belter of a point at the end.
