    Tricky thing is, even though things look like they are heading for the exit, you're gonna have to let it happen all by itself. If you start showing an interest in her, he could get jealous, then she gets the attention she was looking for and its curtains for you mate.

    Phone her a week or so before (when is it?) and tell her you really like her and find yourself thinking about her a lot.

    Tell her that whenever your out having a laugh or at the cinema you find yourself wishing she was there.

    Tell her that you you've been thinking about the prom and that you'd like it to be a special night for both of you and you'd wish she finish with her boyfriend maybe. Don't push it but just suggest that that would be the ideal as you like not to feel guilty for being affectionate with her.

    Failing that, buy some Eternity after shave - knocks 'em bandy ;)
