Phenomenal mileage you're doing. You'll easily hit 2k for the year. What's on Saturday? Are you doing Portumna or just taking a break till Saturday?

Bad day for me. Sick as a dog on the course. Couldnt keep anything down. Got badly dehydrated and had to run walk from 18 miles. Dug deep and finished in 3.42. Worst i ever felt in my life.
Have to say though it was a great day otherwise, great course and great craic. Just wasnt my day. Should have known at the start as my heart rate was high and i was standing still.
Also i was leading the marathon for a couple of miles:D

Yesterday was not a day for marathon running.

    Hard luck Oisin

Yesterday was not a day for marathon running.
Na it was my own fault, ive run myself into the ground. I knew it was coming. 3 races marathons in quick succesion. Something had to give. Ill pull back the milage now and run only easy miles. Looks like Longford is off the cards for starters.

Good to see you are still in good shape. With your appetite for marathons I'll believe youre out of longford on the day only :) Rest up.

Have you decided weather to do longford yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,054 ✭✭✭theboyblunder

ssssshhhhhhhhhh. my achilles will hear you :)

yes - if it holds. came through 14 miles with 13 @ pmp last night. HR much higher than normal but encouraging nonetheless. what about you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,496 ✭✭✭Oisin11178

Yeah always planned on doing it but probably not racing. Raced 4 this year with 3 pbs. Need some rest and low milaie for a while to get boy lower i think. Where are you staying down there. I cant fine any hotels with rooms available.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,054 ✭✭✭theboyblunder

good stuff. have you checked all the places on this site?
    http://www.longfordmarathon.com/acc.htm

    Im in the longord arms.

If you're stuck you could get a b&b anywhere around, then get a joe to longford and you can use my room as a base beforehand for changing, using the jacks etc and we can head to the line from there (assuming im fit).

If I cant run I will let you know before cancelling the room so you can rebook straight away. Two mates are coming down with me (not running) so there should be pints later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,496 ✭✭✭Oisin11178

Yeah tried all the usual hotels. Have not got access to a laptop at the moment as mine is borked. Ill have a look at b and bs but i have them:-)

Very similar in my opinion. A few miles in the city. Jack lynch tunnel made my gps have a nervous breakdown. The river section was exactly like the narrow river section in Limerick and about the same lenght. Then worked our way back into the city. The profiles of the 2 courses was fairly similar, no hills to speak of.
Finishes were similar, on the main street.

hey oisin, above is you description of similarities between dublin and cork marathons, have you done dublin?

im curious to know how dublin compares to cork? elevation mainly, and how would the hills in dublin compare to the hills of cork, eg pheonix park be similar to model farm raod or something like that?

cheers...hard luck in portumna also by the way, you are unlucky this year with the weather!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,496 ✭✭✭Oisin11178

Thats my comparison of cork and limerick.
Id rate dublin slightly harder than cork. No real hills to speak of, i think the majority of the inclines in dublin though are in the second esp the 1 at ucd. Id rate limerick cork and dublin as flatish.

I may be heading to Longford to run the half there so might see you there. Any hotel I checked dates for was already sold out. If we both end up a bit away from the start we could share a taxi in?(does Longford have cars? :pac: )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,496 ✭✭✭Oisin11178

Rq there are loads of rooms left in the longford arms. They are just not available on the website. I rang today and booked a room.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,368 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

Yeah, I sent them an enquiry just after I posted that. See you in Longford so! Are you doing any of the 32 marathons? I'm still tempted to do the Dublin one but don't fancy paying 25 quid to lap the Phoenix Park...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,496 ✭✭✭Oisin11178

I had a look at the website and could not see where you can do them for 25 blips. How does it work?

13.1 miles in the irish multimarathon.
    ~1.40.
The most horrific weather Ive ever run in. Strong strong breeze. Made up my mind not to try and pb. Upto 9 miles my average was about 7.20 a mile and went through 10km in ~45 mins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,496 ✭✭✭Oisin11178

Was absolutly coasting and enjoying it. Last 4 miles into the strongest breeze Ive ever run im slowed me down 1.30 a mile. Like something out of a disaster movie. Good crack though.

yeah - awful conditions yesterday, best to slow down as you did rather than exhaust yourself for a time you would beat easily on a calm day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,496 ✭✭✭Oisin11178

The 1.40 i did id say was the same as approx 1.35ish on a calm day on that course.
Lost 6 mins in the last 4 and a bit miles.
A friend who was looking for sub 1.40 after 1.40.xx in kildare finished in over 2 hours.
