And I fully intend to have a few pints beforehand. :p
hey lets face it how many players are we going to know anyway... or at least recognise... accurate descriptions like Athlone's "homeless man" really helps us picture them;)

all very quite here... closed my account for a bit and not a post:(

least there is some good news lately, 5-1 win in galway, micky funston and mark scoltalk is back, cowan shouldnt be too far either so we may have a defence after the euros! unfortunatley we will be minus mcHugh and clarke for another game and Curtis is the 3rd out for the season with cruciate injury

euro prediction competiton on too for a bit of fun, deadline is friday though
Monster draw also up and running with some good prizes as always... doesnt say when the actual draw is though

Well after years of never holding the draw on the advertised dates I suppose that comes as no surprise.

Ciaran Greene and Paul Simon Tracey have left the club.

harps bet Derry 5-1 in the Danny 'Bomber' Rouse memorial cup today in strabane. always a good news story that:D
The goals were scored by Jordy Duffy (3) Shane McGinty and Ryan Lonergan.

    Team:

    Shaun Patton

John McGarvey, Calvin Bradley, Peter Doherty, Dean Bonner

Ryan Lonergan, Ryan Curran, Shane McGinty

Dean McConnell, Jordy Duffy, Gary Merritt

Mervue make the trip to Finn Park on saturday,
Funston and Scoltalk can now play Cowan McHugh and Clarke all back we may actually have a good squad and some optimism. Hutton and wiz have them playing better stuff now and but for a striker may have had some better results lately (so hurray for kev being back!)

a repeat of the 7 goal thriller (and the 748 attendance) last time wouldnt be too bad!
edit - also see its free for u12s til the limerick game in august.... 1 adult, dont think theres a limit on how many you can drag along!

5 goals tonight, mcveigh with his first 2 at senior level, mchugh with the other. good open game played some nice stuff. funston and scoltalk didnt get clearance in time so are still to come in. coll and merritt (and mcveigh when he drifted out) were great inroads down the left. wizzy had a great ball out to merritt for the first goal after breaking up and attack in midfield. nice interplay between mchugh & mcveigh for the second, turned the mervue defence inside out. 3rd from a corner.
ref was decent in the first half but there wasnt really any calls to make, disaster in the second, not sure if she knew which way to point for a free in the end, i think hutton was starting to see the funny side by that stage.

been a while since iv gotton to a game but its a huge improvement performance wise, defence looked a lot more solid with keith back who looked very glad to be back and with 3 points going off at full time. happy out, onwards and upwards:)

edit-oh yea, had a trip down railway road after, plenty of rebar sticking up out of the ground now, hopefully we will see the main stand and club house starting to properly rise up before summer is over

pretty poor alright, 350ish i think it was. 750 for the fist game with mervue... full groundhopper video up now. match highlights from about 8mins... had their defence kept pretty busy, probably should have been further ahead.
wexford on saturday and off work again:) and sunday:) so a hopefully good sporting weekend ahead!

u19s won their first foyle cup game 4-0 v hillsborough. hopefully they will be adding to their 3 trophies! fanad and letterkenny both lost while inishowen drew with ballinamallard. u12s also kicked of with a 4-0 win over armagh city

After 3 - 4 months of inactivity (other than the grass and weeds growing) a digger is moving around the site of the new stadium. I suppose it's no coincidence that the FAI are in town.

There has been no work done on that site in at least 3 months. That's how long it's been since the steel was erected. So how you seen work going on is beyond me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 70 ✭✭nigeldinho

Really? Funny how all the founds and steel doesn't settle overnight?

As far as I know, the next round of work is the biggest cost, and the biggest draw-down of grant money, so it'll take longer than most of the work, it's the bulk steel which supposedly is to cost around €1,000,000 itself.

You could forgive the club if the money doesn't come through to get this underway.

But Nigel, it's Finn Harps so it's just easier to be as negative as possible....

Great result last night. Six unbeaten now and to beat 2nd placed Longford away with our injuries and suspensions is great going. A lot of good news about the club recently.. makes me nervous.

League leaders Limerick at home next.. let's hope we can screw them over as well and continue our glorious march to fourth place.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,101 ✭✭✭AidySevenfold

Not gonna be easy this weekend. Home to league leaders Limerick with around 9-10 players out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,209 ✭✭✭overshoot

with waterford beaten last night its the 2 form teams in the division now:D harps unbeaten in 6, limerick in 5... been too long since we had that claim!
the lads are setting out to make it a noisey welcome for the league leaders over by the gantry... just raging that at very most il only get the first half:mad: fookin work.
u19s kick off the eilite division campaign at 3 on sunday too, the lads kept 14 clean sheets in 18 last year

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,252 ✭✭✭harpstilidie

Looking forward to this game tonight :D mon the Harps! Let's make it 7 unbeaten.

  • Registered Users Posts: 342 ✭✭garth-marenghi

Good result fo Harps last night, perosnally as a Rovers fan would love to see them back in the Premier Division. With a bit more rebuilding on and off the pitch hopefully it wont be too long.

Delighted with last nights result and performance. Fantastic. Very proud to be a Harps fan last night. Pizza and Wizzy seem to be getting the best out of all the players. 7 unbeaten now :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,209 ✭✭✭overshoot

now up to 4th, although althlone & wexford have a game in hand (against each other)... mervue next (think there will at least be an attempt at a bus)... then athlone and wexford... that sense of optimism finally returning! could open a gap if we win those 3

oh and the u19s opened life in the eilite division with a 1-1 draw, supposed to have been just about the better team but aint a bad start to life with one of the youngest squads in the division (think only 4 will be overage next year) and sligo poaching 2 of the best players also... least they are supposed to have got some sort of wrap on the knuckles for it

Finn Harps will be holding an open meeting for all supporters on Monday 27th August 8.30 in Jacksons Hotel. Agenda will include new Stadium, league format for next season and financial update. The chairman and board would be grateful if all those who support the club would make an effort to attend.

cant make it cos of work but should be interesting... christ knows what form the league is going to be next year, good piece in the times about the mess...

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,209 ✭✭✭overshoot

robbed this from neish on the harps forum
Good meeting the main Agenda consisted of
    1. Financial update:Without going into to much detail basically they club is living within its means at present but just can not afford to cut back anymore so some fundraising needed especially during the close season months but also one or two events before the end of the season required. The club desperately require volunteers to help with fundraising(coming up with and promoting events, then helping out at said events)

    2. League structure If nothing changes the league will consist of a 12 team premier division and a 7 team 1st, a few clubs are supporting this but most against it. As it will mean only 24 games for 1st division clubs, playing each other 4 times with 4 free weeks though out the season for each team plus the 2-3 week mid season break. Which will kill off most 1st div clubs

The general consensus is that it will change to a 18-19 team 1 division league, with teams playing each other twice 34/36 games. This will run for it is thought 3 years, then be reviewed (but may only be for one year). There will most likely be a intermediate league below similar to the A league (Edit this intermediate league will probably be the solution for the team who don't make the premier grade after the said review)

This change would mean Harps would have to gain a premier licence which could entail having to put in more seats in the current Finn park(Our lack of seating was the only major, block it getting Premier licence in the past) some other minor issues but nothing major. The club hope that with the new development they may be able to negotiate some lee way here

The club are also trying to push for a return to winter football, but the vast majority of the other clubs against this

    3. New Ground The last draw down on money had been delayed 4- 5 months but is expected soon and we could see the developer back in site very soon. The next stage will involve the actual shell of the stadium going up. The department have been on to the club recently asking how long it would take for completion which the club view as a good sign that are still fully behind the project. The developer reckons it will take 15 months of un-interrupted work to complete the project

    4. Youth development The club are very positive about the current youth structure at the club. However participation in the elite division does bring extra costs. The club will be launching a new, "Patron of youth development" scheme. Were supporters of the club are asked to buy/sell as many Patron scheme ticket as possible, it cost €100 for the year and for this participants get:
    1. 1 years subscription to the club's big 4 lotto
    2. You or your business get listed as a patron in the clubs match day program an on the club website.

Entry form for this can be collected in the club house, sent out by calling 074-91310070 and are to be made available or download on the http://www.finnharps.com shortly

If you can't know anyone who would be interest in the above an alternative suggested was that you find a few friends who will buy at least one of the €2 a line lotto's a week

The club are also looking for volunteers to run a youth development committee to help drive the above and take some weight off the board, anyone who can help can contact the club or our own famous poster uncle Harry. I gonna help out with this as it the future of the club

    That basically it

    About 30-40 at the meeting

I see the club has made an application to further extend the duration of their planning permission which is due to expire in October.

yea it was a 2.5 year extension granted in early 2010, in the end the stadium is being built on government and FAI grants as well as the transfer of finn park to the contractor... basically the cost to the club is mininal but getting money of the government in this day and age is like pulling hens teeth, sure ground breaking was in 2008 by that time everything had gone to ****

Unless it's tipping down, Finn Harps radio will be turning the air blue at Mervue V Harps tonight.* Harps looking to build on an eight match unbeaten run but we've a horrible record at this venue and lots of absentees through suspension and injury. Mervue haven't been going well though plus there's a bus of Harps fans coming down so maybe this is the night we break our duck there.

    * Listener discretion advised. There's no cover so can't really do it if it gets too rainy.
