Last time Harps beat Dundalk competitively, I was at the game, and I was 20 years old.

My 20s left me quite some time ago...

Was that the first division play offs?

Yes, 07/08 season. Was at the Dundalk D1 playoff game, and in the RSC in Waterford for that leg of the up/down tie - couldn't get two weekdays off work to go to the Finn Park leg

Oh to have limited commitments and short notice time off again. Basically zero chance I could get time off as quickly as that playoff sequence needed now - I was also at the last ever Kilkenny City game when we were hoping Cobh might mess up so could throw leave requests in nearly immediately. I had trouble making Finn Park of a Friday from a half day back then, its maybe an hour quicker now at least.

That was also the last season we beat Dundalk in Oriel I think, before last weekend!

I remember watching Dundalk in Finn Park maybe 5 years ago where they won maybe 7 or 8 nil. The difference in class between the two sides was massive. While Dundalk have regressed slightly, for Ollie to assemble a team with virtually no budget that can beat both Dundalk and Bohs in recent weeks is hugely impressive.

Here’s hoping that we can get the crowds back at matches again to give the team the support they deserve.

So that is Ollie's tenure over. Was a great servant to the club.

Indeed! I suspect that his time was up though and even if they had avoided the drop this season I wonder if his services would have been retained.

No thoughts on the new gaffer?

Seems a pretty good appointment. Coached with Liverpool'International setup, current U21 boss with a Premier League team in Forest.

He certainly ticks most and possibly all the boxes. But the big question now would be about the calibre of the players.

True, but at least with such a promising manager you'd hope that players will want to be part of what's happening.

Can't argue with that. I think that Ollie may have become "stale" given the length of tenure and perhaps didn't command the respect he deserved. But with the greatest of respect to Ollie you can't really compare the two when looking at their respective CV's. Rogers has seen it all and he should be a great investment by the club.

Yeah as you say no disrespect to Ollie but he is the calibre of manager I'd expect Harps to get. Rogers seems a cut above that especially for a first division team.

First Harps game of the season for me tonight.

That looked alarmingly like actual football being played.

Anyone got any info on whats happening with the new stadium apart from it being neglected? This whole project commenced 15 years ago yet there has been very little done since that. Its just over 2 years now since Harps secured funding of almost 4 million from the government but it looks like there hasnt been a single Euro of that money spent. Shame really..

A good time to bump this semi dormant thread. I think it's a very positive move to have Kevin McHugh back at the club. He will bring loads of experience and hopefully help Harps with a serious push up the league table.

In other news (well, none actually) the little bit of works that were carried out to the new stadium lie there going from bad to worse. It's almost 17 years since the works started and probably about 15 years since anything else has been done.

It's mad that nothing is happening with the new stadium. I'm not well versed on it, but is the 4m still available to the club? Or like, will it be taken away if not spent in a set period of time?

Game wise, it was good that they were able to pull a draw against Longford last night whilst being a man down.

Harps have been approved for a total of €5.8 million in funding and have to raise €1.6 million themselves in order to proceed with the project. That was their updated financial statement from last September. In fairness their current planning application is stalled pending receipt of a lot of additional information but the planning end of things should have been dealt with long before now.

easy dig to make to say planning should have been dealt before with when the stadium got redesigned to reduce costs

… and then caught with the new flood maps/the current FI

…and the rather large recession in the middle of it all when mentioning the years

Easy to leave out the details though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,932 ✭✭✭✭muffler

What "dig" are you talking about? The club has known for the last 4 or 5 years at least that the proposed stadium would have to be redesigned and in doing so another planning application would be necessary.

I have no idea what the last sentence in your post is about.

”about 15 years since anything else has been done”

Given you’re a mod in the construction thread I’ll assume you know enough to know stuff being done isn’t just related to site works. I’d call that throwing stones for sure.

would you have submitted planning prior to the redesign being done/talks with a supplier as it’s a specialist system, in other words a high level of detail design before planning?

and the last part… count back 17 years (2008) what happened? You’ve no idea what the recession did to construction and finance in this country…?

A "mod" and "throwing stones" and making "digs" ??? I honestly have no idea what you are on about. I posted factual comments and expressed an opinion which I believe is acceptable in this discussion but you seem intent on raising some form of argument based on your obvious misguided beliefs.

well if you have no place in the construction industry fair enough. Do you?

But you’ve also not responded to the counter points on the 17 years have you?

id stand by my comment that “15 years since anything was done” shows a complete disregard for the work gone into a redesign, funding and planing applications
