All the SU did is ask if the college was closing. I'm all for an SU that communicates well, but we need leaders, not just parrots. They should have been making the case to close the college and they should call on students that don't have exams or assignments to hand in tomorrow to boycott college for Monday at least.

In fairness I've think they've done all they could. I'm involved with the SU as a class rep and the sheer pigheadedness (its a word) of some of the academic staff is unbelievable. They didn't want the study week cancelled last month coz a lot of them had skiing holidays! Thats the kind of ignorance you're up against

I'm a beting man and despite what has been communicated via the SU I'd put money on the college being open BUT lectures/labs etc being canceled

Sure the water pipes are probably frozen by now

I see what you did there. Well bollix to that. I'm stuck in clare as far as they're concerned

Yeah, sure it was intentional... :p

"We spoke to the registrar of the Uni who said that they evaluated warnings from AA roadwatch, the fact that all trains are still running and that the majority of bus eireann services were still running, when making their decision.

We did communicate that a lot of students would have difficulty making it into college. Those students should contact their departments in the morning according to Senior Mgt and let them know. Departments will be understanding of students who can't make it in." - Ian Power, UCC SU

Grr... off to cork I go then! Seriously hope I make it there in one piece. If people get hurt while making it back to college there will be uproar!

Does the college not know that train services don't operate to Cork from some parts of the country or that bus services have been restricted in places! Its an absolute joke and I hope the lecturers are considerate to people. The least the college could do is send round an email informing people of what is happening.....thats not asking for much!!

yeah, not to mention for people who live very rurally even managing to get to a bus might be impossible

Buses from Kerry-Cork(Main route) have been cancelled since 3:30,and we're important people :D

If they don't care about the rest of the people they should at least care about the Kerry people :)

In fairness they're probably reluctant to close after the week off after the floods.

Looks like the opportunistic welfare officer is using the snow to boost his Presidential campaign publicity. http://www.facebook.com/photos.php?id=1469294347#/event.php?eid=244200044037&ref=mf

 God forbid we might get a bit of fun out of the snow. I'd have thought the anti-fun brigade would be delighted- the location and time has been advertised; you can avoid any bit of fun or spontaneousness in your joyless lives!

Why does someone organize a snowball fight under their election campaign profile instead of their normal profile?? Hmmm.

Im all for snowball fights. Electioneering is different.

Anyone near UCC staying home? Im 5 miles out, usually cycle, could be dodge...

ooohhh that guys a bell-end, thank god ill be gone from the place

I'll be going in anyway, I've an important lecture at 4 which myself and my class really need, so fingers crossed that will be on. If not, and the library etc are open, I've plenty of work to be doing.

Just put socks over your shoes, and you will NOT slip, guaranteed.

Wow, harsh. Keith might across as a bit of a muppet if ya don't know him but he's a very genuine guy!

I live in Togher, normally get the bus but they're delayed. Doubt I'll make my 11 o clock lecture tbh

021-4902266 is the main security number, they'll connect you below.

    you're telling me I can't get a packet of tayto tomorrow? that's it I'm staying home :)
I'm not sure what I'll do tomorrow. I guess I'll head in and see if they let me into the building. I was warned last week that they might not have the WGB open at 9 with the shutdown over the weekend. I hope they have the heating back, they didn't last time!

Nice post, I've disliked the guy since day 1. He used to do security in the Brog, so we had many a run in before I started in UCC.
