I have what feels like period cramps since 3am this morning, pretty much constant.
Has anyone else suffered with this?? Im almost 36 weeks.

Could be braxton hicks contractions. I had them pretty much constantly for the last week or two but some people experience them earlier.

Could also be the start of labour. Monitor how you're feeling and if you start to get extreme pressure during the cramps & don't be afraid to call your midwife if you're unsure as to how things are progressing.

I am 36 weeks on Thursday and I had been suffering all last night with painful lower back and what felt like period pains but nothing today so I put it down to Braxton Hicks and my body generally building up and getting ready for the big day at the end of June!

I was told by a midwife that if you don't know whether you're in labour or not then you're most probably not. She told me there's no mistaking labour pains and she was right. You'll know when it's labour pains.

I'm 34 +2 and for the last few weeks I've had really really bad pains under my bump. At the beginning it was only after I had been out walking and for a couple of hours afterwards but the last week the pains are there when ever I try and move. I'm fine when I'm sitting or lying down but trying to stand up and start walking is torture. I generally lose the power in my tummy and double over or nearly collapse the pain is so bad but once I start walking I loosen out a bit (still have pain but can manage to walk). G.P. told me to get a maternity support belt. Searched Galway for one at the weekend. Found one in mothercare and put it on...........it was useless! Did nothing to relieve the pain. I ended up crying in boots when they didn't have any! It was our last port of call! (Poor husband says he feels guilty because I'm in so much pain!)
Searched on the net when I got home but they all say they are for relieveing back pain so still haven't managed to get one. Just sat on the couch for the weekend and feel a little better today. But there is no way that I would manage to go for a walk or do any house work. Fed up with work too. I'm tired, sore and in pain!!!

You should be able to see a physiotherapist in your hospital and they'll be able to help you. I did the physio ante natal classes in the coombe and the physio there told us to make an appointment with her if we had pelvic pain etc at any stage. She said they also have a supply of the belts.

starting to get HUGE at this stage - 15 weeks, and most of my clothes don't fit anymore and I look distinctively preggers ;-( and it's not all bloat anymore, baby is definitely sticking out and pushing bits up - looks like we're having a giant! :D

having bad mood swings, too - started crying uncontrollaby when watching movies or listening to songs on the radio - dear oh dear.

Now 17+ weeks and not a whisker of a bump here. There's definitely a baby though. I cried at the end of Cool Runnings last night. I'm such a hormental mess I could do with strapping a box of tissues to my leg.

Also 15 weeks here. Still a big pukey mess
Just found out a friend is expecting the same week as me. So thrilled for her, it's been a rough and rocky road for her to get this far, makes my morningnoon&night-sickness pretty irrelevant by comparison. Hope we all have safe and healthy pregnancies x

Think I've the start of SPD :(
Does anyone know off hand if the physio department in Holles st is usually busy?? Think I'll have to ring them tomorrow and try and get an appointment. This has come on really quickly over the last 2 days... hoping it doesn't keep going the same way over the long weekend!

Well - no longer pregnant. Our little monkey arrived at 36 weeks. As Impatient as her daddy, already.

Best wishes to all you ladies still waiting on your little bundles!!!

    Congrats Storminateacup!

Liliq, it depends. I think you can get an emergency appointment on referral from your GP or consultant. Otherwise the waiting list can be quite long.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,337 ✭✭✭How Strange

Liliq in the coombe you'd ring the physio dept and make an appointment. You didn't need a doctors referral as you're already a patient. Try giving the physio dept a call; they'll point you in the right direction.

Congratulations Storminateacup that is brilliant news, hope you and baby are doing well.

    Congats Storminateacup!!

Tried calling the physio dept today... no answer  Left a message so hopefully they'll get back to me next week. Have a hematoma that seems to be being affected as well, so will kill 2 birds with the one stone if I can get into them!
Seems to be ok in the morning and get worse as the day goes on... am in bits at the moment, and every chair in the house is low, soft, uncomfortalbe, unsupportive... bleugh!
THink I might now have a good excuse to sit out end enjoy the weather and get waited on so I don't have to move though! :P

A few tips for SPD I got from the physio when I had it are sitting on a ball (You know the big ones for exercising) sleeping with a pillow between your legs, keep your knees together as much as possible (especially getting in and out of a car and bed) Its a horrible thing to have and its put me off ever having another baby but for me it got better pretty much as soon as the baby is born so at least its not forever.

btw the list was very long when I had it. Might be an idea to go privately if you get very bad.
