He gave up though, perhaps knowing he was up against a decent argument at that stage,
Remind me, what is your argument again?

My observation at this stage is that a clutch of cycling forum posters seem to think there is an obligation to know who you are / who they are, I gather that is not the case at all.
You were asked about your background in cycling.... not unreasonable on a cycling forum.

In relation to the thread locked yesterday:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=66387204#post66387204

I'd like to defend my bad "character" in the second last post if such a thing is possible by an anonomous poster on a forum.

I had made such a request to a moderator last night but have not had a response.

I hope I wasn't being too sharp when I questioned who's business it was where I was on Saturday morning, but it is actually no one's business, certainly not on this forum anyway!!

If certain people fail to understand me I can't do much for them.

I have been accused of taking pot shots at amateur riders - if I appear to do so by certain people what can I say? It's their interpretation of things not mine.

I don't always defend the pros - I have been critical of Lance and Cancellara recently to name a few that instantly spring to mind, as regards amateurs sure I can recall saying fair play to a certain boardsie when he won a race at the start of the year.

I don't despise up and coming riders - far from it. They are not "the words from my mouth". ;)

Can someone dictate on here or condone the standards of personal opinion?

I would finish by having a look at some statistics that might be considered a wee bit interesting in the context:

    Slideshow Bob -
    Posts: 1,023 Thanked: 358 = 34.9% thank rate

A certain individual who I felt gave me a bit of an undue lashing -
    Posts: 7,232 Thanked: 1,754 = 24.2% thank rate

Perhaps not everyone thinks I am bad on here :) Not bad for a guy with no buddies in here :D

What I found funny about the thread was that you got narky with someone who thought the route could have been posted on the club website. And you made sarcastic comments to the effect and I'm paraphrasing "how did anyone find out about races before the internet"

And yet you p!ss and and moan all the time about not being able to get results on the internet.
Perhaps not everyone thinks I am bad on here :) Not bad for a guy with no buddies in here :D
Maybe you should have another one of your polls.

You only have 136 thanked posts, not 358.

Also, thanks have only been available recently enough. Probably all the time you have been posting but only a percentage of the time people here longer have?

I should point out now that I didn't actually read that thread at all so have no idea about what bickering went on (nor do I particularly care really), but I felt It should be pointed out that aside from comparing people by thanks as being pretty silly and pointless, the thanks system was only brought in somewhere around 2008, so those percentages are pretty much irrelevant.

    [edit] Beaten to it.

Thanked 358 Times in 136 Posts

Have the balls to say "Dirk said this, Dirk's thank percentage is superior to mine, blah blah"

    "A certain poster"....

Anyway, I don't see why you had to drag it back up. I hauled my ass out of bed on a saturday morning to go racing, I had a small comment for xz which we actually talked about before the race, and that was it.

EDIT: Moving on, I assume posting in this thread means you want to race. Fair enough, let's say a race uphill, say Bohernabreena? Have a laugh, shake hands and say no hard feelings, it's only t'internets, donate some money to charity and have a boards beers after???

I refer to your posts and you refer to my balls!? lovely!

    Congrats on the ass haul

Where's the implication re wanting to race?

    Speaking of which...

I understand the thanks button has only been around for the past 2 or 3 years or so. Hence as Dirk has been registered for around 8 years a lot of his posts never had chance to be thanked, whereas Bob has only been registered since 2008 and hence all of his have ...

Posting in "Tedious bickering" has long been recognised as the 410 version of a glove slap, essentially you have challenged me to a duel, I have accepted and stated my weapon of choice: hill climb at 10 paces.

Don't worry, the last one was good natured.

It was a figure of speech.

    Given up the verbal challenge?

Some people are good cyclists, some are good posters

I know what it meant - an allegation of cowardice

I never claimed to be a good cyclist, just a good looking one. Actually, some poor sod said to me at the Noel Hammond he got on my wheel because I "looked good". I just don't have the performance to back it up.

    If I come 2nd I'll be happy.

Now stop diverting attention away from the fact you have challenged me, I have accepted so let's race!

So he wasn't referring to your testicles as you suggested in your post.

Bob is showing Lance levels of diversion. I feel like Paul Kimmage.

I never said you were a good cyclist

whatever you get up to at races is your own business

What can I say - not really interested in your up hill race

Aww, nuts (not the testicle kind)! I was looking forward to meeting you, shaking hands and having a bit of fun, on our bikes, in the sunshine...ya know, like before the internet times!

I know you never said I was a good cyclist, no one has said that, not even me. So, if you don't care what I get up to at races, what the heck was the other thread about??? Why post?

it was you who butted in on a barney i was having with Diarmuid

This place is full of cliques - its clear

Yeah, because I was racing that day, kind of proving my point? I raced, I posted in a thread I had direct involvement in. You just stumbled across it, saw Diarmuid's post and had a go.

Cliques? You mean people who go out on the bike, race and socialise. It's not exclusive, you've offered to race me so you're "membership" has clearly been approved.

Anyway, race? Come on! I just need to drop this gut and I'll be good to go uphill.

    Whats your point?

I did stumble across it, saw the post and 'had a go' - is there some rule in boards that prohibits that? Do you have to race in a race to comment on it?

I don't just mean those cliques - there's alot of ott unesscesary mutual appreciation in here, can be quite gauling at times reading it i find.

    You were trolling.

Yes, it would be considered trolling. You never commented on the race, you're initial comment demanded that Diarmuid explain himself and that his post was having a go at the organizers.

Are you forced to read boards? Are you in some Gulag where the most fitting punishment is to read through a forum you despise?

And still you ignore the race. I don't understand it, you posted here to "clear something up", singled me out as a "certain poster" (quoting my post count to remove any anonymity) and then can't do what Mockler did several months ago and "put your money where your mouth is". I don't understand it, it was all in good fun, you get to meet people, see it is not some mega clique but (oddly enough) a bunch of people who have a common interest in cycling.

    Is trolling allowed in 410?

Ya I am forced to read boards ya - does that help fulfill your fantasy??

what the heck is a Gulag?

Quit trying to understand me will ya? You just dont get it n never will!

I came on here to defend my "character" as I stated - some things may never be cleared up.

Ya I did single you out Einstein well done on the spotting of that.

Money where mouth is? What you on about? this is tedious bickering - not I challenge you to an uphill cycle race thread - go create one if you want. See you are still insisting on a implied term that is only deciphered by those in the know around here in the back rubbing community.

Sure it's great fun altogether the cycling - tell me about it!!

Cycling ya!!!!!!! common interest yaaaaaaa !! Boards yaaaaaaaaa !! different opinions yyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaa
