I'm starting to repeat myself, there has been numerous delays. I know all about them, but never an official release date until recently.

    Spot on.

I well aware of all the delays but there was never an official release date.

Wasn't it supposed to be a PS3 launch title?

I'm not asking for a rushed out racing game at all. If you were to class every game with a sub 5 year development as rushed then you'd be one seriously unhappy gamer. The fact is 5 years is unacceptable. It's half of a console's life cycle for God's sake.

There was a very early build/tech demo but no release date.

As said if you've been working on a game for 5 years there are no excuses for any bugs, at all.

The fact that they have been working on this for as long as they have and have had so many extensions and still need another couple of weeks makes me worried, what have they been unable to fix? And if it is a case of adding more features they should just get it out, what can they ad to a game in a few weeks at this stage? Whatever it is in the eyes of those people who have been waiting for this since its announcement it won't be enough.

It was half the PS1s and PS2s life cycle. The current generation will have a longer life cycle. The PS3 and 360 are looking at around 15 years.

But yeah GT5 is taking it's sweet time. GT2 was a slow runner too back when the PS2 came out and ending up looking nothing like it was supposed to. Only now is GT5 starting to look like what GT2 was advertised as graphically.

Never trust PD, you'll always end up with something less, late and let down.

Sick of it at this stage, when we though we were gettinga release date in November it gets put back.

Just give me an official release date and I will be happy.

    According to GTPlanet...

...Sony is targeting a new release window within approximately 8-12 days after November 26th

Or if you believe this then hopefully the delay won't be too long?

Gives me time to complete Assassins Creed Brotherhood...

The delay seems to be in relation to piracy, GT5 was about to go gold running on SDK 341, but it has been delayed by around a week so that they can update to SDK 350.

While a switchover to the new SDK is hardly a big deal, you have to factor in QA testing, which can easily take an upwards of a few days to complete, depending how extensive. That, factored in with setting a revised manufacturing date, can easily lead to a delay of this nature.

I was thinking it could be in order to add in Move support for the release day. I'd say we'll be lucky to get our hands on it before Christmas. I won't be holding my breath for a release this side of the holiday.

In this line of thinking I hope it isn't brought out till February. So much to do.

Any news on why it's been delayed or a release date?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,532 ✭✭✭WolfForager

It was delayed to reprint the discs with firmware 3.50 included so as to cut down on piracy. No release date yet.

It was going to be my birthday present - I really just am so :( disappointed

Played this at the eurogamer expo in London and thought it was meh

I think a lot of that could be the PS3 controller, which in standard config was rubbish, but I did play it with a wheel and pedals too. That was better but driving experience itself didn't blow my mind or anything.

Hoping it has some great modes and features to justify a purchase

HA! I was just about to post the same thing.

Image is pretty sharp, no question. The issue for me was that the driving experience wasn't anything new. Also, 3D added nothing to the game. Motorstorm on the other hand... That is how to implement 3D.

Yup I don't want to start a fanboy war or anything but since Forza 2 I think it has pretty much been same old, same old for driving sims

If GT5 can build a good community and has some interesting game modes/features it will be a solid game. If not it will be a mediocre driving sim with an updated car list.

Oh one thing which was terrible was that the rally track had invisible barriers at he sides of the track.

I don't think any GT has ever been described as mediocre.

I want that car so bad....

Also if a professional race says that the car "handles brilliantly", i can only assume that the driving physics are also brilliant.

I don't think any GT has ever been described as mediocre.

It was in the demo pods anyway. Could have been Forza 3, it did not feel like the pinnacle of console sim racing. The driving experience seemed pretty similar to all the sims I have played for the last 5-6 years, looked maybe a little better but felt the same.
