Unfortunately he doesn't deserve a Ryder Cup pick.

Probably not, based on current form, in particular his implosion this week.

But there are 8 players who will either qualify automatically or be obvious picks and maybe one or two others who will probably get the nod ahead of Shane. But I still think it will be hard for Donald to leave him out of the team unless two players below him in the rankings win this week and next week.

Shane done everything not to be picked

Donald would be crazy to pick him based on the last few months. Things have been very unsettled with the caddy change and form. Ryder cup not the best place to look for form.

Can’t see how he gets a pick. Totally out of form and no Ryder cup record to point at to show he could turn it around. Very disappointing really. I thought he’d be a lock for every Ryder cup after the Open win.

In Shane's favour is his pedigree and the fact he has been in the Ryder Cup before. There's also a lack of depth and talent on the European side.

Against his selection is a clear downward trend in form and confidence.

Donald has to weigh up how important player form is. There isn't exactly a queue of top pedigree players climbing over each other.

Shane being selected or missing out are scenarios that wouldn't surprise me either way. There could be a bolter or surprise selection but we'll find out soon.

If you looked at the list a year ago, you'd expect he'd have had his spot sewn up well in advance. I would have seen no threats on that points list at the time.

Also in Lowry's favour is he's good friends with McIlroy and he'll have a say no doubt.

I've feeling 3 of the picks will be Lowry, Rose and Fitz for experience. The other 3 will be rookies.

Don’t think McIlroy is the type to recommend a pick based on friendship/loyalty.

Shane is 100% getting a pick. Just listen to what Donald says about him and how Donald thinks he is playing.

Shane has done the same thing every week pretty much all season and that's have one horrendous round in every tournament which takes him out of contention. He had five top 20 finishes in six tournaments before the Open.

I don't care about the Ryder cup, personally think it's a stupid tournament.

I'm just pointing out that Shane's overall form hasn't been as poor as some are making out and if you look through the results you'll see that it's almost always been one bad round.

And he’s in the team! Three announced ahead of him, so I was starting to get worried.

fair play to Shane .finishing joint 3rd will take pressure off him & Donald around his pick.Good week next week where he won last year will set him up nicely.

Yea I think it was a badly needed strong finish from Lowry. Hopefully he can keep that going and build confidence.

He was blessed that Donald had a stupid amount of of wildcard picks.

Terrible singles match play record of Played 31 Won 8. Better in teams Played 4 won 3.

Hovland/Lowry would be a nice foursome pairing

lowry to defend next week anyone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,297 ✭✭✭Trampas

The pga started the increase of picks.

Should go back to the 2 picks or 3 max. At 6 they may as well just pick 12.

I think deep down Shane will be delighted to be back up there but how he played 14, 15 and 16 he won’t.

good to hear some none pr views but I wouldn’t go as far to say he shouldn’t people up. He didn’t win and he didn’t push on when up there. Maybe wins soon or more regular top 10’s then. One week doesn’t mean anything

Thought it was a graph of Shane's form. Plenty of highs and lows

Shane firing three birdies in the opening 8 holes, on the tougher front nine. He hasn’t dropped a shot for 80 consecutive holes in Wentworth.

I'd be in favour of him being banned from the Ryder Cup thread now.

Strange round from Shane. Two eagles and only finished 1 under. Bogey par finished. Probably rushing to get in before dark as missed 3 footer on last.

Didn’t see the coverage but I heard that Shane didn’t cover himself in glory with his bad language throughout yesterday and the sky commentators had to apologise about his colourful choice of language. Is this true?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 675 ✭✭✭Neewollah

There was at least 6 golfers yesterday that they apologised for due to bad language

Unfortunately it’s a common occurrence with him. Yes it’s a frustrating game at times and everyone has done it and happens in every sport but the mics are beside him and he knows it as in featured groups
