Gary Murphy finished with a 67, -6 total, including a triple bogey on the par 3 5th. Up 22 places to tied 7th.

That was a double bogey for murphy on the 507 yard par 4 5th hole of the Tour course.

Great to see him up there in 7th... Kearney moving up nicely too... solid. The rest of the Irish were in reverse today unfortunately.
Weather is to be breezy and cold tomorrow... wonder if the tee times/pairings for R3 remain the same as R1 & R2 or do they go out in order of standing at this stage?

I presume there is a cut at some point this week? Is it after round 4? Know the top 30 plus ties get cards

Cut after 4 rounds (2 rounds on each course). Top 70 plus ties go on to play 2 more rounds. Top 30 plus ties get cards.

Caldwell is putting in a performance today on the Stadium course after the dissappointment he had there yesterday.
-5 thru 12 today and back up to 45th on -3 overall.
    Was 96th after his +5 77 yesterday.
Hopefully he'll play the next couple of holes a little better than last time round :)

Wow, thats some turnaround, hope he keeps it up!

murphy pulling it back somewhat with birdies on 11 & 12, general scoring doesnt seem to be anywhere near as good today as the previous 3 days...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 717 ✭✭✭jimjo

Niall Kearney going great on -2 and -6 over all T31, Murphy also -6

Simon Thorton has three holes to make up a shoot to get in the top 70, currently at T73

Grounds Keeper Willie -2 for the day through 12 and -3 overall, T63, just inside!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,361 ✭✭✭f22

Kearney just gone -4 (-8) through 12, great stuff!

  • Subscribers Posts: 4,419 ✭✭✭PhilipMarlowe

    Murphy bogeys 14 & 15 aaaarrrrgh
    -4 and t49

  • Subscribers Posts: 4,419 ✭✭✭PhilipMarlowe

Gutsy finish by Thornton, birdies on 16 & 17 to get to -4 overall and t51
Caldwell doubles a par 5 to put himself under (more) pressure...

  • Subscribers Posts: 4,419 ✭✭✭PhilipMarlowe

Murphy finished +2 today, -4 overall and t51

  • Subscribers Posts: 4,419 ✭✭✭PhilipMarlowe

Kearney eagles the 15th, now -5 today, -9 overall and t10

Coltart in on -3, t65 currently

great round by niall. He has impressed me with his scoring the last couple of weeks. He never shot ridiculosly low numbers like 66 etc in amatuer days.Hope he keeps it up.To think he just got thru as last place in PQ1.

Looks like Gary Murphy Simon Thornton and Maybe Johnnie Caldwell to get into top 70th

He's finished on -5. His bogey on 18 (his 9th) has been changed to a birdie! Good fighting from him today with a -4 bogey-free round.

Still got it all to do on final two days though.

Coltart card amended somewhere because he's now shown as a flawless 4 under today, -5 overall and t45. Happy days.

His bogey on 18 (his 9th) has been changed to a birdie!
.. waiting for Murphy's bogey 6 on 15 to be changed into an eagle... surely? (bogey 6's make me cry).

Caldwell needs 1 more birdie over his final 3 holes... currently t76 on -2 with -3 being t66

Ouch, Kearney bogeys 16 and 18 to drop from 10th to 25th. Good position all the same, but annoying way to finish for him.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 717 ✭✭✭jimjo

Caldwell had an 8 on the last!!! If he just had a par he would have been through!

  • Subscribers Posts: 4,419 ✭✭✭PhilipMarlowe

Not as ouch as Caldwell, birdies 17 so needs a par up the last to make the cut.... takes a triple bogey 8.
15 over for 6 holes, 15 under for the other 66.
    Level par overall and t96

Some guys just aren't built for pressure. That's a hapless finish when a par was needed. Is it top 70 and ties after today go through to the final two rounds?

  • Subscribers Posts: 4,419 ✭✭✭PhilipMarlowe

Yes, top 70 and ties go through to the final two rounds.
-3 is t63, -2 is t76 so 75 guys get through (there is one group still to complete their rounds I think?)
Anyone making the cut is assured of challenge tour next year as far as I remember.
Top 30 and ties get full cards after 2 more rounds, both on the stadium course.

My picks for cards......Roope Kakko, Stephan Gross, Sam Hutsby and Big Niall.

From seeing these lads up close in amateur golf. All stand out big time

Jesus i got something right for a change!!! Kakko the only one from the quartet outside the card placings at the moment.......

Simon Thornton with a 5 under par 31 has moved up from 49th to 20th.
He's now on -9... (the magic number?)
