Any chance they will "divert" some water to shanakiel / hollyhill for a few hours?

Gone again. Half way through a shower 'n all!! Brilliant!

If they could supply us for 2 hours, why can't they do it for the week? I don't mind the low pressure!

The issue is mostly that the motors attached are high voltage gear and not many places are qualified to repair such. The motors shouldn't need a full rewind though, there wasn't any power turned on when the place flooded thankfully from what I've heard so the damage to the motors shouldn't require them to need replacing.

Edit: Got an update, all the gear was gotten out today and is being repaired right now, so hurrah and such. Will take a while to be fixed but it's getting done. Well done to all the civil servants involved who've been at it all weekend to get us to this point.

By high voltage I presume you mean 690V? There would be plenty qualified to repair/rewind if necessary, Avonmore being a world leader in motor rewind. Its just not so easy to start the things up without the necessary controls and drying out windings, thermistors, terminals etc.

Could they not do some sort of rota system for people to get water? 2 hours for each area or whatever? It would mean people could live a bit easier knowing the maximum they would have to wait is 2 to 3 hours.

I don’t know the ins and outs of how it works but if it was possible for 2 hours then I imagine there could be a cycle of it?

I don't know which voltage or any exact details on the motors involved. By not many I meant there's only a handful of rewind companies, Avonmore included, who do this kind of work from what I've heard of the area. It's not the kind of work that could be given to non-specialists which was my point.

There should be a plan in place. Some of the plants I ve been in down around ringaskiddy and little island have water treatment plants to cater for up 200,000 people. If the council had sence they would of tapped in to these years ago on the off chance of anythin like this happening

Those plants treat the water to remove solvents etc from it before release, the water is far from fit to drink. Thank f*** the council are not tapping into these ;)

Oh I agree completely, but it is times like this when contractors usually pull out the stops for the Councils, that is why I expect it to be up and running next weekend. I would think a phone call from Joe Gavin or Noel O Keeffe would have the best men on site sharpish.

So anyways I go to Ballyvolane to get my emergency water and guess what? They've run out.

Nope I definitely wouldnt say the company I work for, to be honest its the electricians and fitters that will get it sorted and the engineers will actually organise to get it sorted. The fact is the Councils own guys dont actually do this type of work thats why contractors will be in there and obviously supervised and instructed by the Council.

Parts of Montenotte are without water since Friday night, so it's not surprising.

E.g. Middle Glanmire Road, Montenotte Road & Lovers Walk are waterless.

It's really strange though the way some places have it and a couple of streets away the taps are dry.

around half six there was a gang from the city council at a drain on the well road, when all of a sudden a gush of water rose about 25M into the air, scary

    Hi
I have been trying to find out if any of the water stations are close to me with no success.

just to make sure you know about this - on Laura McGonigle's website she says there's going to stand pumps on Coburg St (street that becomes McCurtain st) and Lower Glanmire Road at the junction with Summerhill North. both of these are close to wellington road. hth.

It's not really, the network of pipes isn't like a grid running under the city linking every area multiple times but discrete groups of pipes. Two areas could be geographically close but served by very different groups of water pipes meaning one could be turned off and the other on etc.

Think of a very complex tree where you could have two branches near each other but which are only "connected" if you go way back to the main trunk to get an idea of what I mean.

This situation RE containers is poor. I went up to Blackpool today and a sign in Atlantic said they wouldn't have a delivery of containers until Monday at 10am!!

I ended up going for water with a plastic box and somebody "important" (I've an idea who it was but won't post here in case I'm wrong) was appalled that people who don't already have suitable containers cannot get one and nothing really being done to source them.

Its basically a tale of two cities right now - a lot of people panicked in areas that haven't been impacted and a lot of supermarkets were cleared out of water on Friday and early Saturday. On the other hand, almost all of the tankers have been 20-30 minutes walk outside of the city and really impossible for anybody living in the city area without a car.

Coburg St and Lower Glanmire Rd/Summerhill north will help the situation in the north city area which is currently is grave due to the fact that this is largely a residential area of impoverished tenants in high density housing, many of whom don't have cars.
Maybe it would help if people brought their spare containers to the distribution points for use by people who haven't got them? I'm thinking in line of those large 5 litre containers which would suit people in the city areas who don't have cars.

Hey just read on laura mcgonigles website that college road has no water. Does this mean all the buildings along college road? Surely not

A good container to get is the one Halfords do. It's a 25 litre clear plastic tank, with a tap on the bottom for dispensing. 20 Euro for it. I have one for my work as I need water when I'm out on the road. You'll get them in camping shops too AFAIK.

Nice suggestion, but all the DIY and camping shops are all sold out of water containers at the moment due to the sudden hike in demand. Some of them might have stock on Monday morning.

Back a few pages ago we were talking about how CBC was opening tomorrow..

Someone I know suggested that they could be connected to an old water supply providing the barracks, which is very close.

But then again, the building is only 20 years old, so why would it be? Scoil Mhuire just down the end of the same hill has no water, and a house even closer, which is also older, has no water supply too.

We first thought it could be because they would've had a half day at 12.00 anyway, but now it seems they will open for the whole week.

Can anyone shed some light? Have a look at this map illustrating locations of the various places I've mentioned.

Also, does anyone know whether teachers will continue to strike? I thought the only ones deferring it were those who could help in flood effort (doctors, nurses, public aid workers, etc).

    Thanks.

I feel for those without water but I was wondering do the rest of us with water have to modify our water usage or does it help in any way?
I was about to wash the cars this morning but thought it might be a bad idea so abandoned the plan.
I don't want to make matters worse but don't want to hold back unnecessarily, I in the southern suburbs.
