    Hah!

Maybe I can start offering this as a service.

'Bored with your current consoles? Joystick knobs no longer working as they should? Cartridge slots becoming a bit tired and worn? How about reigniting the passion with a boudoir photography shoot?'

    ...

Just let me know if you're bringing an NTSC US snes so I can put lots of vaseline on the camera lens.

Yes, but think how happy the MVS mobo will be. It will weep with joy.

When I got the arcade cab the only games that had been in that motherboard were Top Players Golf, Street Hoop and Tecmo World Soccer 96.

Street Hoop is good but it's not exactly a stellar bunch of games. I could have sworn I heard it go 'yay!' the first time I put Metal Slug in...;)

I actually love street hoop. The memories of the guy who owned the pub where it was roaring "three point basket" everytime he walked by...

On the topic of bootlegs whats the main giveaway? The cartridge colour and ultra low price?

Ah MVS bootlegs..it's not as straightforward as it should be.

If you're using ebay then price really tells you nothing. I've seen bootlegs sell for loads and original carts sell for nothing.

Best thing to do on ebay is to read the discription carefully. Most people will say if the game is genuine SNK or not. If they say it is and you find out it's a bootleg, it's well within your right to ask for your money back. (As bootlegs are technically illegal)

If it comes in a black case with a white arrow (Ones with indented arrows are boot cases) a yellow sticker and holographic label then you can be fairly sure it's authentic.

There's an ebay seller called Yaton and he sells official boards in bootleg cases. If you're ever buying from him and the auction says '100% working' (And not 100% official) then it's a boot.

Some official SNK games come in coloured cases. Metal Slug X. Garou: Mark of the Wolves..but if you see a black cart game in a coloured box, chances are it's a bootleg (Unless it's coming from Yaton!)

Most of the time official games won't have the holographic label. In some cases the label may even look home made (The original label could have been in Japanese or damaged when they were opening it up to check the boards)

Some other carts come in cases that look like boots but aren't. The official Metal Slug 5 looks like a boot but it's not.

The only definitive way of telling is to open the cartridge up and look at the boards themselves. Bootlegs will usually have a load of windowed eeproms, bad soldering etc. Official boards wont.

The one big bootleg to look out for is Puzzle Bobble.

There's a really good forum over on neo-geo.com called 'boot or no boot'. People put up pictures of the boards and cases. Would be a good idea to have a look at some of them -

further to that, here's a list of scans of official labels and boards.

Haven't seen this before myself actually. /bookmark.

Well, my MVS started on the retro pages, where a couple of people put temptation in my path, resulting in my going straight to ebay and buying the various gubbins to play MVS carts, and so, here I am, an owner of a modest little collection, including Puzzle Bobble, Super Sidekicks, The Last Blade, KOF 99, Metal Slug X and a couple more that now escape me, they are up there somewhere!

Bought a AES from adverts.ie which I love like a child but wish I got a MVS. Have been looking for a MVS convertor on the cheap but they go for 150 euro onwards..............

For games like metal slug ( which I paid 80 sterling for ) they are much much cheaper on MVS...........

    Sorry but wha??????????????????

Metal Slug AES is worth $2000. Hell, even a conversion costs $250+

  • Registered Users Posts: 351 ✭✭Warren3

I am pretty sure it is a converstion but comes with original box but no instructions.........

I spent months trying to get it . Saw it go for up to 200 terling. Got a bargin

That's insane cheap. If I were you I'd put up some pictures over on neo-geo.com and ask about it. They're very good at spotting conversions. (Unless of course it said it was a conversion on the auction!)

If you have the real deal...I'll swap you a MVS converter mark II for it! heh

I do not think it said in the ad it was a converstion but read somewhere if it has no booklet that is a sign. For that price as well I am pretty sure it is.

I love that game so no sale but might be interested in buying the convertor.......How much you looking for??

Ah sorry man, you misunderstood. I was joking. Meant I'd swap the MVS converter for a real copy of Metal Slug. (Which is a ridiculous swap as Metal Slug is worth a fortune!)

Keep watching ebay. I saw one about 4 months ago sell for in the region of 60-90 sterling. Think I paid in the 120-130 euro mark. Worth it in the long run.

  • Registered Users Posts: 351 ✭✭Warren3

    I understand now mate.

I always have a little look on ebay. Will pay 100 stg happily...........

You can get them on the neo-geo store for their retail price ($250!)

Insane money when you think about it. That the AES for you though..!

  • Registered Users Posts: 351 ✭✭Warren3

It is a lot of cash. Would you recommend??

Does it work for every game??

  • Registered Users Posts: 34,587 ✭✭✭✭o1s1n
    Master of the Universe

The only issues I've had with it are -

Metal Slug X just won't work with it at all. Something that is a common known fact and isn't just my copy. Nobody knows why as far as I can tell.

Samurai Showdown games have some issues with their zooming. Sometimes when it zooms out the sprites can go a bit blocky. Still playable though.

There's a little dial at the front that can be adjusted if you're getting issues like the above.

But everything else works absolutely perfectly. Even the boots I've tried on it.

As for what to do..hmmm. 250 dollars is about 170 euro. Then add postage...it's a lot of money. Depends on your occupation really :D.

  • Registered Users Posts: 351 ✭✭Warren3

Well how i see it is I want the rest of the Metal Slugs ( only have the first one ) and Samurai Showdowns ( have 1,2 and 3 ). Will the savings I make by buying MVS version instead of AES pay for the convertor. Maybe???.

If you're prepared to look out for good deals on ebay then you should be able to get all the Slugs on MVS for under 200. One AES Slug would cost you more than that. So that will more than pay for the converter.

    For me it was -

    Metal Slug 1 - 30
    Metal Slug 2 - 25
    Metal Slug X - 30
    Metal Slug 3 - 35
    Metal Slug 4 - 40
Metal Slug 5 - Last one I need!! Just waiting for a good price.

They're all the low end of the price scale because I waited and shopped around though. I've seen Metal Slug 3 sell for 80+

  • Registered Users Posts: 351 ✭✭Warren3

They are very good prices. Did they come with the boxes?

Have been thinking of re sale value and if i get them all on aes that is a very good unique sales point!

MVS carts don't have boxes really. Arcade oparators would have purchased them in a basic cardboard box..but as you can imagine, they didn't hold on to them. You can get MVS full kits that never made it to an arcade but they're usually a lot more expensive.

If you want, there's the option of picking up MVS shockboxes. They're not official SNK merchandise but they look really nice.

The major problem with trying to get all the Slugs on AES is going to cost you over a grand! Possibly close to two grand. I really can't stress how lucky you were to get Metal Slug 1 AES for that price. Even if it is a conversion. It's a once in a lifetime jammy bastard thing lol
