Just saw this on the p2p website:

8 February 2010 Punchestown to race RIGHT HANDED

The Punchestown Point to Point will now be run right handed.

Although in recent years it has been a left handed course it is now reverting to a right handed circuit matching the course proper.

There have been in the past a number of last fence fallers and also new ground has been made available which encouraged the Committee to make the move to revert to a right handed course for Sunday.

Going is good to firm. Shouldn't be tacky but not far off tacky.
Night time temperatures are -4 every night but ground thaws out fast by 11am. No fog here all week.
Forecast is clear dry days and frosty nights.

    Thank you 746watts.... :D

Looking forward to tomorrow's racing :D

Weather has actually been pretty decent for the last week - I nearly don't know what to do not having the rain dictating when I get the horse out!

Unfortunately I'm not going to make it to the Pigeons tomorrow, but best of luck to those of you with runners tomorrow! :D

Looking forward to tomorrow's racing :D

First race is at 1pm, last race (#6) at 3:30pm. No divides in any race.
Expect delays coming into the field, we use 3 John Deere 110bhp to pull in the lorries, jeeps and boxes will be fine on their own power. Allow 30mins-1 hour to travel the last 2 miles as we get the traffic in (from 2 directions) as fast as possible.

Lorry people- Make sure you have a towing pin and grease it a little/take out last years bird's nest to make our job faster. :D
Lorries that come in the gate and cross the track there's a base of gravel off to the left of the gravel avenue that will hold 2 lorries side by side so we can allow jeeps to pass behind and hook lorries up to the tractors. Jeeps & boxes can slip past onto the grass and be directed by parking stewards.
Spectator cars will then have room to zoom down the gravel road (200m) up behind the Jockey changing rooms to the car park (right beside the parade ring and bookies).

Please do not attempt to abandon cars on the gravel avenue coz I will get cross. :P

When you wish to leave, and races are still on and traffic is still coming in, please please please tell a steward on the avenue first and we will organise your escape within a few minutes. If you try to bully your way onto the gravel road against the flow of traffic causing chaos, I will be cross. :P

Thanks for the heads up Watts.

I arrived at about noon. Amazing setting and the day was very enjoyable. Only thing that would have capped the day off would have been my horse winning instead of being beaten by the narrowest of margins!

Anyone going to Stradbally on Sunday?

(sorry smartaform - Tallanstown is a little too far for me to travel!)

  • Registered Users Posts: 313 ✭✭smartaform

Not fair, Not fair, Not fair!!!

    Why Stradbally??? :D

Might go there next month for a day out.

Because it's much closer than Tallanstown (50 mins v about 150 mins)...

I should be asking you "Why not Stradbally?!!" :D

Hope the preparations for Tallanstown are going well, that the weather stays fine and that the horse runs well!

No gelding maiden at Stradbally
Would only be about 20 min drive for us if we went there.

Forecast is looking good, fingers crossed it stays warm :D

That's annoying - I remember we were lucky last time we ran there as they had a 'Confined Maiden' which, although restricted to a specific number of 'adjacent hunts', happened to include the hunt from which we got the Hunter's Cert.

Heard the weather forecast at lunchtime - seems that the weather is to improve even more towards the weekend, with nice sunny weather... Here's hoping!

It'll give the ground a chance to dry out, so hopefully it'll dry nicely rather than being that awful 'tacky' or putty-like going....

That confined race is still on this weekend, however i prefer to keep this fella in an easier class - or more restricted class :D:D
Don't want to run into a smart 5 year old that flogs us... lol

Entries for Stradbally can be found here.

I see that the winner of one of the divisions of the 7&8 y o geldings' maiden at the February ptp in Punchestown is entered for the winners of two (3rd race).

Note: Our Clonakilty Point to Point Races take place at Beamish’s Farm, Inchydoney Island, not Darrara, the location which the Turf Club had on their fixture until we got it corrected recently. Our first race is at 2pm, Sunday, May 30.
Thanks to Clonakilty Agricultural College and Teagasc for hosting us at Darrara, a fine track where Whinstone Boy was the most famous winner. But our move to Inchydoney last year went very smoothly. It is a right hand track on sandy soil which takes a lot of weather. And it must be one of the most scenic tracks in the country, and perhaps the only point to point on an island (of course, it has been connected to the mainland for more than a century, and is one of Co Cork's best known beach resorts)

The Laois Hunt were blessed with the weather yesterday - I think it's one of the hottest, if not the hottest day I ever spent at a point-to-point! Good racing, too, with some nice horses running.
