One of the more interesting groups on flickr has a similar theme. The 100 Strangers group (I think that's the original, there are, as always, a bunch of clones and copies aswell) which mandates that you go out and take 100 portraits of complete strangers. You have to interact though , ask permission first, and talk to them a bit so each picture should have a little story or a potted bio or whatever. It's an interesting idea.

I post it, because it is touching for a photographer to post their own personal progression through their illness in such an open manner. Often as photographers we are able to document that which we observe or are disengaged from but I can only wonder what it might be like for the photographer to whilst living in the hope that such issues don't visit near to my door.

The above link isn't to a spectacle of photography but to a photographers personal approach to documenting something incredibly personal.
