Aisling, hon, you're killing me!! :(
1.Whats the most enjoyable thing you did today?
    Answered all your questions, ofc.
    Last film you saw?
    See last post ^^^
    Single or loved up?
    Single
Can you do all sorts of thecnical hooha with computers?
    Yeah, definitely!

/hears half of Boards laughing hysterically in the background.

Srsly, no ... I'm a bit of a techienoknow, in that if I need to learn to use a programme for some reaon, I will usually battle my way through it and win or at least achieve a draw, albeit if there's an odd way to do something ... >_>

In terms of what's inside the box, though, or why things work though, I haven't a clue ... it's all bits of wire and metal and imaginary streams of electrons to me.
    Do you like feeding ducks?
    Em ... yes, I guess.
    Would you want kids?
You would get a different answer to that depending on the day you ask me.

To-night it's a "no", for RL reasons! :pac:
Are you fascinated by any particular historal period/event?
The passing of the Irish Act of Union. While Patrick Buckland has added very significantly to our understanding of it in recent years, I feel there's still a lot not fully understood. And it has had such a long-term effect on this country, even to this day.
    any good at card games?
Not so much, haven't played in years in fact.
    Do you play drinking games?
Have been known to, got sense! :p
Do you drink shots, if so what ones?
Occasionally. Whatever gets shoved into my hand, really. Myself and Trowelled were discussing one above; you can go pick her brains though! :p
Will you come to the next beers pleeeeeeease?
It's in the lap of the gods. Be nice to them, you'd never know.
do you like to do house work?
Nobody likes housework, it's a necessary evil.
Are you a tidy tina or a messy milly?
    Somewhere in between.
Any foods that you cant stand?
Curry / anything with chilies. Not so much that I can't stand them; they don't like me!
    Can you swim?
    Yes.
do you play any computer games?
    No.
Do you enjoy living alone or would you rather have someone with you?
I'm a sociable beast, and like company, provided it's the right company.
Ever get scared at night time when you're out?
Not so much ... I would tend to exercise a certain wary caution around big cities late at night, but I can't actually remember ever being scared as such.
    Ever loose a shoe?
    Not that I recall! I certainly don't make a habit of it ... :P
what greek islands have you been to?
Crete, Thera (Santorini), Zakynthos (Zanthe), and a few other small ones whose names I don't recall off the top of my head. One day I will have the money and a boat to explore them properly!
    ever climb a mountain?
Aye, a few of them. Wouldn't exactly be fit for the Alps though! :pac:
what are your views on abortion?
I'm DEFINITELY not getting into that one!
    are you interested in polotics?
Not sure if interested is the word, except in the sense that one is interested in the woodworm that are destroying your home around you.
    Are you good at maths?
    Yes, fairly.

And to-night hasn't been brilliant in fact, so I think bed is called for!

Catch up with the rest of your questions mañana!

Mañana ... such a wonderful word!
Do you feel bad for making me cry? :(
    I certainly didn't intend to, sweetheart! :(

    Are you into football?
    Yes and no.

I played a bit growing up / in college ... gaelic / soccer / rugby ... all very casually and extremely badly. I wouldn't tend to follow any of them in any organised fashion, but at the same time if there's a decent soccer or rugby match on which I have an interest in, I will pop my feet up (or prop myself at the bar!) and watch it and enjoy it. Gaelic not so much these days. I tend to follow the Irish soccer team fairly avidly at world cup time (unless someone mentions Roy Keane and sends me into spasms of rage!)

Again, yes and no (sorry! :()

I love technology for how it can make our life easier; makes it easier to keep in contact with people; etc.

I have no real interest in how it works.

No, I couldn't say I believe in them.

    I'm not a fervent non-believer either though.

I've walked into familiar places and had a strong sense of someone I knew who was gone being there, but my rational mind suggests that my sub-conscious is at work.

I do think that really horrific events can leave some type of aura / ambience behind them in a place.

I really just use tv as escapism, so probably Eureka at the moment; it's completely silly but sure isn't that what escapism is?

How many hours sleep do you get a day(usually)?
I'm quite lucky if I manage 5 - 6, and it can often be quite a bit less; if I'm in any way stressed (even mildly) or even if my brain is just active, I tend to be an insomniac.

On the other hand, if I'm relaxed and tired and especially if I've had a couple of nightcaps, I can easily sleep the clock around!! Doesn't happen half often enough though.
    lolly22 wrote: »

Yes, I just won't sleep before about 2 on the best of nights, I might be nodding off in the chair but as soon as I go to bed I'll be wide awake again! I was always the same even as a young child.

No, actually ... never even struck me!! :p:D
What are your views on the following subjects:
    cheese: Like it.

Ganster rap Not generally a fan

The West Wing Never saw much of it, a few of the re-runs, in the wrong order as far as I could tell. All right, might have been better if you got it from the start.

nuclear physics I have views on it?! :pac:

    grapefruit juice Far too bitter.

The Cold War Came far too close for comfort to sparking off WWIII at times. Still with us to an extent in a diffused and fractured form, just not a clear East / West divide any more.
    golf
A game for middle-aged men who like whacking the hell out of their balls.
    and social networking sites?
Don't have anything against them in principle, but the current market leaders tend to leave me cold. A bad case of the ZOMGWTFLOL!!!11!!s.
If you were on Mastermind, what would your specialist subject be?
I've tended to become more and more of a generalist as time passes, but probably some aspect of Irish history, though some intensive revision would definitely be needed.
Which 5 people (dead or alive) would you invite to your ideal dinner party?
William Shakespeare, John Donne, Charles Dickens, Oscar Wilde ... and Angelina Jolie to leaven the mix! ;)

Against four dead men (and one of them Oscar) I should be in with a good chance, right?! :pac:

how high is new zealand on your priority list as far as seeing the whole damn world goes?
Em ... not that high, but certainly somewhere I'd like to get to some day.
what's the most beautiful/scenic place you've ever been?
The top of Sliabh an Iolair on a clear summer's evening, about two hours before sunset.

I may be biased though! :)
if you won the lotto, what would you do with the money, and how would you change your lifestyle?
As mentioned, I would do a lot of travelling. I would tend to keep a base in Ireland I think, albeit nothing too big / fancy, and go and come from there. I would probably also find somewhere to establish a base abroad, probably somewhere around the Med ... again, nothing fancy, but comfortable and big enough for a fair few people to stay at one time ... something like one of those converted farmhouses you often see in France, but it would have to be beside or very near to the sea. And an airport with a decent air service would be important too. As I got older and my feet began to ache from wandering, that could be my base for more of the year. Oh, and a "tithe" would be put aside for various organisations / causes which interest me.
are there any issues/hobbies/interests that you feel truly passionate about?
Lots! I've been on one wee rant already in this thread, so I won't go there again. But yeah, I can get quite wound up at times if I don't watch myself. Not sure if there's any one hobby that I'm truely passionate about, though certainly if I couldn't read any more I would feel like a large part of me had been lopped off.
have you ever cried/teared up while reading/watching the news?
Aye, I can be emo enough at times, even if not usually to the point of actual tears. Most recently, there were a couple of interviews in the aftermath of the Ryan Report which definitely broke the normal parameters.
how would you describe your general philosophy/outlook to life?
Life is far too serious to be taken seriously.
and lastly, hypothetically, if we were to meet up at some beers in some country in a rather distant future... could i buy you a chartreuse shot?
    And why not? :pac:

Sure wasn't it developed originally as a tonic!!

I don't tend to follow a specific club, but at the same time if there's a decent soccer (or indeed rugby) match on which I have an interest in, I will pop my feet up (or prop myself at the bar!) and watch it and enjoy it. I tend to follow the Irish soccer team fairly avidly at world cup time (unless someone mentions Roy Keane and sends me into spasms of rage! )

Don't know if I have a keen interest in any of them really. Some I would watch if I was running free, some definitely don't light my candle (like golf or tennis, for example).
    LZ5by5 wrote: »
What do you think of the possibility of the re-introduction of fees (I find that word ridiculous anyway, they are already doing us for roughly €1,500 as an "entrance fee")?
That used to be quite small, and was called a capitation fee ... it was basically a contribution from / levy on (depending on your point of view) students towards student sports and recreational facilities and services specifically. In recent years it began to be a stealthy way to partially re-introduce fees.

Philosophically, I'm not in favour, but practically, I think something will have to be done in the current economic climate or our third-level sector will be completely starved for funding. There has already been significant cuts introduced in funding over the last year or so, and despite what the media sometimes like to trumpet, the sector wasn't especially well funded before that. Even the Commission set up by one recent Minister (Dempsey, I think?) to look at third level funding, and which he confidently expected to find a pot of gold under each University President's arse, confounded him by coming back and reporting that the third level sector in Ireland was seriously under-funded by international standards (in terms of the "developed countries" at least).

I threw out a few suggestions in LC a while back for how it might be tackled in a multi-pronged approach ...
    Here's a couple of thoughts:

    (a) Retain the basic system as it is at present, but means-test it (properly and fairly!!). Make those above a certain income pay part or full fees on a sliding scale.

    (b) Introduce a loan scheme, repayable as the current proposed scheme, which any student can use to "top up" if they are finding it tight.

    (c) Introduce an additional 1% education levy on all graduates above a certain (decent) income level. Use this money and the fees raised above to
    (1) drive research and development in colleges and elsewhere and
    (2) to support hard-working bright kids who could never afford to go to college to get there.

    (d) End the inequity between full-time and part-time students, and apply the above principles to both groups.
I have no doubt the eventual decision by govt. will be much more simplistic though. I also doubt that the sector will see much of the money raised; at best, it might avoid more major cuts, but most of it will go into the govt. deficit black hole.
    LZ5by5 wrote: »
    4. Are you familiar with UCD? :pac:
As little as I possibly can be! :pac:

Tbh, I never liked the place. It always reminded me of something designed by Soviet architects which had been uprooted by a tornado and dumped in the middle of Dublin, and no-one ever found the red shoes (Ais probably lost them! :pac:). I also find the atmosphere of the place as soulless as it's architecture.

Most people have been waiting to question the workings of your mind, so here goes:

    1. Lyons or Barry's?
    Barry's
    2. Favourite beverage, alcohol and non-alcohol?
Spirits generally, but a good single malt is a joy forever / tea.
    3. Do you like feet?
    I find them useful ...
    4. Is Randy a tribesman or from somewhere else altogether?
Randy is originally a citizen of the Kingdom ...
    5. Where did the username come from? (sorry if its been asked previously)
    Post 13 above ... :)
    6. Any favourite Boards moments?
Oh, lots of them. This thread has some good giggles; this was funny because he was so serious and earnest and it all went soooo wrong; the Jigsaw thread which I'm not going looking for ... etc. This forum has had it's moments, indeed, some at least of which are captured in the two "quotes" threads (quotes from forum / quotes from nights out).
    7. How do you view lolcats, cute fuzzy pixels of lolz or seekrit ebul attempt for cats to take over ze world?
Cats already have taken over the world, household by household; lolcats are just our way of rationalising this to ourselves.
    9. What really grinds your gears?
    Intolerance of any sort.
    10. Who, in your opinion, should be shot from a cannon into the sun?
Could we fit most of the present government? :pac:

Yes, quite a lot as a teenager actually. The family of a friend of mine had a small riding stables, and we would spend a fair bit of time on horseback, mooching around the land, doing bits of jobs or checking on stock. I never learned to ride for competition though, that never interested me. I just loved the horses, and it was the handiest way to get around a well-scattered hilly / woody farm.
    .

All that talk about riding horses, are you trying to make riggs jealous?

Did you choose your profession because of the really long holidays? :p

Do you prefer Galway or Kerry?

Why is UL so much better than NUIG?

Do you realise if you go to the beers you're going to have to do some ceili dancing?

Difficult one, they both have their advantages. Part of my heart will always be in Kerry, but there's no doubt that Galway is more accessible, has a greater variety of activities on offer, and a lot of my friends are there now.

When you say UL, you mean that glorified secondary school out in Plassey, right? 0_o
