    Big shout out for AudioGalaxy.

Its a music app that will stream your music collection to your phone by installing a very small client on your PC.

It also allows to listen to your music on any PC in the world just by logging in to their website and listening through your browser of choice.

Dunno if mentioned here but Pulse is a great little app,

Takes bites out of articles from your regular websites and has them all sitting there waiting for you to look at. Worth the free download :)

Great thread, i have been going to each page downloading the recommended apps!

Anyway i have a few questions hopefully people can answer for me, im a newbie to Android this month so sorry for stupid questions! I have a Samsung Galaxy Europa 2.1 phone

I downloaded appinstaller, when i launched this app i had the option to back up apps to my SD card, which i did but some wouldnt so im guessing they are not compatible with this move? On my SD card i can see the backed up app files, my question is since i moved them to my SD card, they are still saved on my phone, so i remove from phone and reinstall from SD card or is this something thats only wishful thinking? I have 108MB free internal memory soits not urgent, just would like to understand this.

Apps2SD - I cannot find this on AppBrain or indeed the market, is appinstaller the same thing?

Intalling apps from SD card - Sorry if this one is really stupid, but can you go to websites on PC, save to your desktop, switch the app files to your SD card and install from there to phone in addition to installing from the Market?

Sorry for the questions, im sure il have more soon haha, just would be great and would appreciate if somebody has the answers to fill me in! Cheers

I'm not going to trawl through 25 pages on my phone to check, but wolfram alpha is incredible. I'm really happy with it

As this phone is not on 2.2 you can't install apps on the SD card.

I've just downloaded the GO Launcher. Seems pretty good. I'd been using LauncherPro. Go Launcher lets me easily create folders to put on my homescreen and I can mess around with the name and icon of the widgets.
It also has a built in appkiller as part of the app drawer.

I can only move them to the SD card and install to the phone from there yes?

Anybody any idea when 2.2 will be on this phone?

Been using GTunes Music lately, basically search and download any mp3 you can think of for free. Not sure on the legalities of it or how long it will last but it's in the marketplace. Not sure where the music is coming from either but most of it is very high quality. I searched for artists as varied as Fleetwood Mac, Tom Waits, Underworld and Aphex Twin and it had a sizeable selection for all of them.

I used a different guide but it'd dissapeared so try this:
    cellphoneforums.net/samsung/t319497-flash-guide-froyo-galaxy-5-a.html

updated my friend's and my mum's Galaxy 5 (Europa) to official Froyo this way :)

    no need to hard reset!

can anyone reccomend a good app that'll let me control my pc from the phone over the wifi, i used teamviewer and liked it but that that works over the internet, and i'll only have my internal network wifi for a few weeks until I get internet in the new flat.

I have http://www.silicmobile.com/remote/index.html this, but im not liking it at all.. very awkward to select programs, and the resolution looks awful.. too awkward to zoom.

Try PocketWyse, it's free in the market and there's also a paid version. It basically uses VNC to control your PC so you must install the program on the PC first.

Just set it to default and it'll save your battery, the free version is fine but doesn't give much customisation or location profiles.
The paid version needs a little input, I've mine set to turn off all data connections ans silence at night and limit it to sync every 15mins only. When You turn on location profiles it takes a few days to train it, it'll then turn on wifi when I'm at certain locations. It does this training without u needing to input anything, it just takes note of where u use wifi etc.

I'm assuming it does the location aware settings with agps or triangulation and not standard gps obviously.

Does having agps on all the time not consume much battery?

It uses phone network for location.

Look at it this way, I've only started running this yesterday. My phone is usually crying out for a charge by 7/8.00 in the evening. Today I was up 3 hours early (6.00 am) to travel to Dublin (100 miles each way) and now at 7.00 my phone still has 58% battery. I've made more calls than normal, browsed boards and Rte on 3g in the airport, used maps, sent texts, browsed my google reader on wifi in the house etc. Its doubled my battery life.

I only turn 3g on when actually surfing the net. This basically makes juice defender pointless for me, or am I missing something?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,874 ✭✭✭✭PogMoThoin

It does more than that, it can even underclock the cpu on some phones when You're not using it to prolong the battery (doesn't support my Galaxy though). Try the free version.

    I can second this^^

I also have a Galaxy, I installed JuiceDefender this morning and can already see the difference. Best app yet.

Anyone used Juicedefender on the Desire HD??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,969 ✭✭✭hardCopy

I'm looking for an app that will let me track data usage across different WiFi networks.

I use 3G watchdog for tracking my mobile data usage but would like to be able to see how much I'm using on my Mobile WiFi device (I work in the UK so use it to avoid roaming data charges), there's no easy way to check it on the device so tracking usage on the phone would be very handy.

I am. Haven't seen any difference though.
I use widgetsoid for easy access to turn on or off radios so wasting battery for WiFi etc is not something I do anyway.

I leave it on for a few more days to see if it makes a difference.
