I don't have Sky so never considered it.

Having sky isnt a requirement to operate the app though.

It's a very handy app (admittedly handier if you have sky for recording etc) but it lists all the channels we're familiar with, breakdown of programmes, a tv shows other scheduled airings.

Worth installing regardless if you have sky/upc/saorview Imo

    +1 for poweramp

I haven't found anything better than Poweramp.

With Google music can you upload to the cloud without paying a subscription?

Yes. The subscription service is to access music not in your collection so to speak.

I'd like a better music player than google music, but with unlimited data, i can justify losing all my music from the cloud, anyway you can intergrate it with better apps

Just wondering i use google play music i think its good, but i have an old archos 5 i think thats it anyways, but when i used my head phones in it the bass was class but i no google play music has a very standard equalizer but is there anything else that would really boost the bass and volume of my phone, like i cant complain its is all ready very good im just a bit of a bass head and i just always want louder. im not looking for them bass enhancers that you select a song and you can just in has it by that, just a good free equelizer that will get the bass going.

There is an app on xda that lets you access your Google music from other apps. I haven't tried it. I will have a look for the mange of it now

edit. Gmusicfs. Seems to be root only

    GFS?

It basically mounts your Google Music library as a share and allows other apps to read it. Needs root and can be hit and miss from when I tried it (although that was a while ago now)

The Best Article Every Day Android recomended apps 1
    link

SwiftKey is free for one month trail use.

Good idea as loads of people highly recommend this so at least this way you get to see what all the hype is about. afaik it learns from your typing and is very good at predicting.

Personally, for me, it was always swype ftw, but then it started acting odd, wouldn't let me scroll to edit text, randomly shifted the cursor to different parts of text etc.

I then went with SwiftKey, (got the full version free via Amazon) and haven't looked back tbh.

In fairness, the cursor thing still happens the odd time but if I'm honest , it really only happens in this site (yeah boards) what's with that

+1 on SwiftKey, it's the first app I download to all my Android devices.

If you're not bothered about sharing such info, you can have it read your emails/sms/twitter/facebook to learn the words/phrases you use the most and predict these as you type.

For example I find myself typing footballer names a lot - having it learn all these in advance and be ready to predict them (e.g. type "Luis" and "Suarez" becomes the next word predicted) is a godsend.

The more you use SwiftKey the better it gets at saving you time. It's the best Android keyboard bar none IMO

and haven't we all been texting his name a lot this year :P

    Happy days are here again.

Aye, 'tis the shizzle. I hate touchscreen typing and it takes a lot of the pain out of it.

I also moved from Swype to Swiftkey months ago when Swiftkey added swiping but only last week I went back to Swype. Swype is much better for swiping and has shortcuts (ctrl+c and ctrl+v etc), OK the predictions aren't as good, but you can pull in your Facebook, Google, Twitter and Sms and popular new words which is enough

Its a pity there isn't a line of numbers at the top that's the main drawback for me

That's the same on both Swype and Swiftkey, long press top line letters to get numbers. In Swype there's a gesture for numpad, quickly swipe from the Swype key to 5

You can add a number row in swiftkey.

EDIT: Sorry - that's in the beta, so from the next release of swiftkey onwards.

I had the same with swype that it started predicting weird things. I've been using Fleksy for awhile now, I love the keyboard layout and feel of it but i miss swyping! I tried swiftkey on the tablet and didn't like it at all! Minuum is also pretty cool but I couldnt get used to it, but I like how it takes up very little screen space. Fleksy can be scaled up/down also which is handy, just no swype

Anyone know how hard it is to make a keyboard app:confused:

Did you ever try this. It's pretty good, you can higher and lower the keyboard and change themes. There is a trial version as well.

I like N7 Player but it's only a trial, still works after but it wants you to buy the app.

    Anyone use Llama?

Llama is good but not if you live in a rural area.
In a city you will be changing towers regularly and your location will be much tighter. Outside a city, you could be on the same towers from one end of the town to the other and so it's not going to be nearly as useful.

Tasker is a much better proposal, especially with NFC tags.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,391 ✭✭✭jozi

wotzgoingon: must get a look at that, think I tried it before though.

I had a look at tasker a long time ago, it's way to complicated to setup! Llama does what I want it to do, I just haven't fully figured out how to get it to do this, I keep hitting a snag. There's nfc tags in llama also

An alternative to Tasker that is much more user friendly is AutomateIT. I had it on my S3 and it was great for battery saving apart from anything else. haven't bothered with it on my One.

Timely just recently has been made a free App as the company has been acquired by Google.

It's a very pretty alarm app with Cloud sync between devices and options regarding snoozing & alarm puzzles.

I read that the other day, was the first app I've ever paid for, only a week or so ago

Is it defo free cause it was free before for a few days and then you got a banner?

Apparently it's properly free now because they were bought out by Google.
I found it hard to get any confirmation of it though Source.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,391 ✭✭✭jozi

I thought I read they "joined" google, not that they were bought out. Either way, it was worth the purchase price.

waynegalway: I'm set on using llama to do what I want. I found someone elses setup/profile that I'll either copy or adapt to my own needs.... eventually...

Anyone any recommended apps for playing audio books?

I'm playing them through stock music player atm , but it's doing my head in that it doesn't seem to save my position, but starts from the beginning of the chapter each time I leave and return to the app
