Well, each to their own I guess, I was simply super disappointed.
Not too much to critisise Metroid 3 about, aside from easing up on the difficulty relative to the very hard Metroid Prime 2: Corruption.

Did you beat Other M? I thought the final half of the game was truly amazing. I was initially let down with it but I kept at it and soon found myself not being able to put it down.

Still though, as amazing as I think it is, Zero Mission on the GBA remains my favourite in the entire series. That game is frickin' special so it is - faultless in fact. I can find fault with Other M, but none in Zero Mission. Astounding little game that....

Only thing that soured the end of Other M for me was a bit of control based shenanigans in the final semi interactive cutscene. Otherwise I fully agree, a thoroughly enjoyable game. Just turn off the sound and you're grand :P

As I said before, Metroid Prime 3 is certainly good / great, but it felt stagnant. Was there really that much different to part one or two? It''s still a fantastic formula, but I was happy to wave the series a fond farewell and let someone else take over the reigns. And the result was a messy but fascinating experience. And that's more than good enough for me.

I had an amazing session on Saturn DoDonPachi this morning. Took me a few credits to get "into" it, but managed to get to level 5 on one credit on Normal in Saturn mode. I got over 10m points too.

Now I'm no expert at most shooters, so I'm pretty proud of getting that far on one coin, particularly with it being a bullet curtain. I really really love that game, though that has not always been the case in the past.....

I think one of the worst things you can say to somebody online when disgussing or disagreeing about a game is "You're just not playing it properly!" That line will seriously p!ss people off in my own experience. I haven't used it in a long time but it is a statement that carries some weight arguable at times. For example, when people would say SNK fighting games were bad I'd use the line if they were playing it like a Street Fighter game, and I'd often turn out the line if people were going on that Halo was shallow whilst playing it on Normal difficulty.

I have been guilty of not playing games as nature intended myself in the past, with DoDonPachi being a prime example. I would credit feed it basically, and I found that I'd just continue all the time and spam bombs to get through to the end and I found it a bit of a mess to play - there was just so much on screen and I'd just muck about with it just wishing it would end. I suppose it was my first danmaku and I hadn't a clue really how to play it - I was playing it incorrectly.

Now, having been educated, I play my shmups for score, and only use one credit. When I first get a shmup I will play through on as many credits as necessary in order to see what the game has in store, but ater that its all about playing for points and/or survival, and when I started to do this with DoDonPachi I really began to properly see its appeal.

Whilst its gameplay isn't as deep as something like Espgaluda or Ikaruga, it is an incredible adrenaline ride from start to finish dodging a screen full of bullets with that rockin' soundtrack going, trying to score big to get more lives and get as far as possible - this tension and excitement just isn't there when in the knowledge that you can just throw in more credits if you fail.

The chaining system is very good too - a simple, easy to grasp system that makes sense really. I like the controls too, they are very responsive and make the game very enjoyable to play. The graphics and level design are good too, and just blasting the sh1t out of stuff is so very satisfying. Really, a top notch shooter that is a great title to play for score.

This evening I got stuck into a spot of Outrun Online Arcade for myself once again. I was actually sorting out some stuff in my room, and only intended to play for a few minutes - I sat myself down on a stack of old issues of games tm magazine and turned on the Xbox......

Over an hour later I finally stopped - I had an amazing session on the game that really does confirm to me that this is one of the greatest racing games ever made. I'm a huge an of arcade racers and this is truly up there at the top as one of the best. An effing masterpiece! The graphics, course design, music and handling are all nigh on perfect. I frickin' love Sega :o

I don't what it is, but I'm really enjoying my gaming at the minute. Everything I'm playing is just amazing. Long may it continue!

I'd often turn out the line if people were going on that Halo was shallow whilst playing it on Normal difficulty.

If you can't find the off button you're doing it wrong.

I'm here all night ladies and gentlemen!

    Argh I hate modern consoles.

Decided to fire up Red Dead Redemption. I finished it about a year ago but thought I'd go back and see if there were any sub quests left to do.

Playing for about an hour straight, having a laugh. Forgot how good a game it was. And then - FREEZE!

    :(

Think I'll play the NGP instead.

I have gone through two 360's and refuse to buy a third. Sounds very like they way my last one died. Glad to see the ngp has gained some respect around these parts. Quality handheld let down buy infamous snk marketing

Started and finished Ghost Sweeper Mikami on the SNES today. Not a bad castlevania clone, but not one of the greats either. Still good fun though.

Also played a bit of Pop n' twinbee rainbow bell adventure today with Sera. This one now is a true forgotten SNES classic. Well worth playing. It's like rocket knight adventures but instead of being a boss rush like RKA it's more about exploring large sprawling levles.

Love that game, played it on emulators for ages before, just had a look at some vids and it still looks totally sweet today.

I like a bit of modern gaming just as much as retro, but my biggest problem is everytime you go online with a modern system you're about an hour updating the frigging console before you can go about your business.

    That does my head in.

Beat Earthbound yesterday. It was great overall but I felt mother 1's ending was stronger overall. Then again, the ending was almost the only strong point of Mother 1. I started mother 3 too. 2 hours in and I can already tell it's going to be incredible.

Really? Thought the ending of earthbound was much stronger. Have you read up about what the ending means? It's a lot more ambiguous than mother 1's.

    Basically
the whole game was based off an experience Itoi had when he was 7. He walked into the wrong cinema and saw what he thought was a rape scene that traumatised him when he was younger. The whole game is about being innocent and finding out how wonderful the world is until the end of the game where you find that the world is full of evil as well and dealing with it. The game was meant to evoke the same feelings which is the funny feeling you get when you finish the game.

Thinking of investing in the Twinbee game in the 3D Classics series on the 3DS, looks pretty good, a lot better than the Xevious update.
I wonder if it has second circle pad functionality? ;)

I know the context but I don't think it delivered on the intent. It was creepy but creepy isn't necessarily evil in my mind. In mother 1
I found gygas breaking down after being reminded of the song sung by Mary who looked after him when he was young more powerful.

I have some very difficult exams coming up so naturally I am spending lots of time gaming instead. Currently loving DK '94 on GB with a little bit of Castlevania on NES and Castlevania Lords of Shadow on PS3.

CV on Nes is actually way more enjoable and playable than I recall as a kid and CV:LOS isn't really a castlevania game but its a well executed and great action adventure game that is rapidly sucking me into its combat and general world.

I downloaded Outrun Online Arcade (ie Outrun 2 SP from the arcades) and got stuck in last night. I played the **** out of it, and its full of win.

I don't know why I didn't get it before, I suppose I was hoping to get round to getting the Xbox 1 version, but thats hard to pick up now.... I had a spare 800 MS pts which I had in reserve for Trouble Witches Neo, which I wasn't too impressed with having tried the demo, but decided to get Outrun as I loved the original Outrun 2 in the arcade, and on the Xbox 1.

I played through every level and had amazing fun with it. It looks great, handles beautifully and the stages are just as good as Outrun 2's. There are some truly brillant courses such as the San Francisco stage, the one from Las Vegas and the China style level - these really stand out, though each is a lot of fun.

Sega really knows how to make a great arcade racer. Lets hope the rumours of a new Daytona are true....

It was pulled from psn last year , and its being removed from XBLA at the end of the year , seemingly as Sega's Ferrari license ran out.Missed it last year and I don't have a 360.Its well worth nabbing if you can though.
I've got Outrun 2 coast2coast on the PS2 though (which has the outrun 2 track in it as far as I remember)
Its a fantastic game and actually FUN to play , much like the original Outrun games.
Except the Amstrad one, that was shit :)

I was able to order from CEX before , they sell it for £2 and theres about 40 in stock
    http://uk.webuy.com/product.php?sku=5060004766789
    (thats the ps2 version ,).
They dont officially ship to Ireland , but paying with a paypal account seems to help it get through.
theres a thread here about it somewhere

...oh and heres one I reviewed earlier (apologies in advance for the terrible sound, and the fact I'd a headcold when it was recorded!), Outrun 2 is around the 14.00 min mark

Came in from work and saw a package from Play.com. Xenoblade Chronicles!

I pretty much just spent the last three hours enjoying the battle system and exploring. It's been a very long time since I've done that in a game. I generally just get on with the main quest due to time constraints.

I think I'll be sinking quite a few hours into this one. So far it just has the makings of an epic.

/Edit - by the way, if anyone is playing it...does the translation seem almost a little hyberno-english?

    'That's the pitts'

    'Thanks a million!'

Ah I think there were a few more but I can't remember. Certainly lead me to raise an eyebrow anyway.

Well the localisation was carried out by Nintendos localisation team based in England so it's understandable. TBH I prefer the cockney accents to annoying californian accents. It'sa great game though, interesting setting and story and none of the usual JRPG tropes. The battle system is also like FF12 should have been, in other words not ****.

I'm kicking Castlevania Dracula X chronicles ass at the moment. Finished it with Richter and Maria with all the maidens. The last boss once you get all the maidens is a right bastard. Maria also kicks ass for a 12 year old and makes the much easier! Anyway the games gone up in my estimations, think it's on par with Super Castlevania but it's not Castlevania 3 beater. Now to play the 2D version with the nicer graphics!

The odd Brittish accents are far better than the usual Cali fare, but I'm sticking with the Japanese voice acting with this. It's really quite good.

    Another World on the Ipad.

Looks great on my Megadrive too, looked great on my bro's Amiga as well!
Lets face it, the games looks great!

I wonder if there is a GB port, I'd say it'd look great in monochrome, it looks that great!

Another World still looks gorgeous. Just goes to show that good art can make a game ageless.

Ah crap, when I was playing Xenoblade last night, I noticed a few stray black dots appearing on screen. Not terribly annoying, but odd.

I thought it was just the game pushing the hardware as I've never noticed it in anything else before.

Apparantly it's a sign that the GPU has overheaded and is ****ed. Even worse, supposedly it's not from bad storage, not clearing vents, it's from Wiiconnect24 trying to update all the time and overheating the unit. So it's pretty much a Nintendo made problem.

Console is years old at this stage. God damn it!!!!

Zelda: Minish Cap on the GBA Micro. Looks so good

I just picked it up the othe day off the shelf an turned it on. I recall being stuck last time I played it.... long time ago. Anyway, I made progress and am all set to carry on with my adventure now. I really love this game's visuals and gameplay.

I got it with the Zelda SP system second hand back in the day. I prefer to play GBA on the Micro so that will be my system of choice for completing this on. Can't get enough of the GBA in general - my favourite handheld format ever, and that has been the case since the day I bought it pretty much at launch. Its well worth checking out Retro Gamer magazine this month as it has an excellent feature on GBA games.

You should try the GBA ags-101, GB micro quality screen, only bigger and plays all GB formats, awesome!

Kinda tired of Drilldozer, playin thru Final Doom now for Psx, love me fps games lately

I liked Final Doom but the first Doom game on the PS was an awesome package, Doom and Doom 2, improved music and system link multiplayer, a very nice package.
I found Final Doom to be fun but quite short in comparison. Track down a PS mouse and Alien Resurrection, excellent.
And, oddly, the Saturn has Exhumed, Duke Nukem 3D and Quake, three superb fps games on a console that shouldn't have been able to run them.

Was well bored of Doom when Final Doom came out but ramp up the difficulty level to ultra violence and play it on a 4 player lan and it's great fun. You're gauranteed to see at least one cyberdemon and spider mastermind per level. It becomes insane.
