Hey the reason it has changed to 2 weeks, is to free up srgts in the area and for cost cutting measures. Thats what I hear anyway, on the plus side, its speeds up the entire process. I am waiting to be called for the medical, do you mind me asking, how long it took you to get to this point from your initial interview, to being called?

Ya thats a problem for me with work, Can i do anything (ie) Will thay accomodate me? i really want this.
I applied for Reserve in 2010 and got the Interview in Feb 11 sergeant and Super meeting in June and Medical in October so just bout 14 months, Good Luck.

Seriously phase 2 is done down in templemore for two weeks!! There is no way on earth I could get the time off work for it! I've a very busy full time job, Is there anyway around this??

I'm shocked to hear that they expect new reserves to give up 2 weeks from their full time job to attend phase 2 training. What was wrong with the original method (56 hours lectures in evenings over the course of 8 weeks)?

If I was going through training now, there's no way I could spare that kind of time.

Overtime was the problem, as was mentioned it's too cut costs and speed up the training a little. My job is extremely flexible and I am sure if I asked for two weeks off, I would get them no problem with a bit of notice. If pay was a problem I could do maybe 1 week paid holidays and 1 week leave or 2 weeks leave.

If it is a big problem, you could suggest that you would maybe work 2 days the weekend and take 3 days off during the week along with the 2 you are due. Or work up some time in lue, work 6 out of 7 days for 5 weeks 1 week off and take 1 week paid.

I'm going to call them today! I think it is unreal that they expect people to just take two weeks off work!! I understand this is for cut backs, but they could at least giving people notice!!

If you get a letter from HQ and give it to your employer it wont be a problem, once they see who it is from you will find they will accommodate you.

If you can't make it for the two weeks, give HQ a call and let them no. They're very accomadating and understand that taking 14 days off to go to Templemore isn't possible for everyone.

Give them a call on Monday and discuss your options with them. Nothings going to change for you by moaning about it here.

I find your comment quite rude, that I am moaning about having to take two weeks off work! I was clearly expressing that it is terrible that we have to take time off from our full time jobs, at our own expense!! But thank you for advice.. I have already contacted HQ they have been nothing but helpful..

They said that I would be put on another course when I could get time off!! Very nice and very understanting about the whole thing! There is no plans for another intake until the summer in June or july.. They are not really sure!! Are you due to join us on the 9th in templemore??

My apologies Busy girl - I did not mean to come across as rude or offensive in any way.

I agree 100% that us taking time off at our own expense is a joke, however, in one way it's an advantage, as it really speeds the whole process
    up for us.

Once again I did not mean to come across as rude. Sorry!

Ya I am heading up on Wednesday 8 th, I was talking to a guard reserve yesterday and he told me that he had the same problem when he was training, and they accommodated him, but that it's more difficult now due to cuts to budgets, I have been waiting ages for this and want to get started now not in the summer, I think I feel a few sick days coming up :)

    Hey busy girl,
Don't mean to jump in but your dead right take this time as you can get the training over with in two weeks wud be better in the long run, plus you will have no more waiting around to do. I was only told by HQ that my BR checks and security have now been sent off. I'm hoping this is it and now it's the waiting game. How long have you been waiting. :-) :-)

I have had to call in some favours to get time off for the phase 1 training so will have no chance of getting 2 weeks off work as i am the only teacher teaching the leaving cert subject I have! But as a previous poster has stated I will have to moan to the powers that be! I understand the reasoning behind it but it still is a lot to ask of people!

On another note who all is going down on Wednesday 8th February?

One2one, Busygirl and myself so far......any advance on 3?

I am heading down to Templemore on February 8th, staying over that night, with training taking place on the 9th and 10th.......when we arrive where do we go to find out what is happening and where we are staying? Or will I be told this over the next few weeks?

Also what does Phase I training entail and when will I be informed as to what station I will be working in?

    Thanks in advance.

How are things, just wondering, if you dont mind saying, how long your process took. From day one, to getting to the stage you are out now, Im waiting to get called for my medical, presume if there is an intake in Feb there wont be another for a good while after?

Hello and apologies for the delay......wasn't able to log on for a few days!

I had my initial interview in March 2007 and has my medical last April and have training next month so just under 5 years in total!! My longest wait was waiting for the medical which was 3 years!

I have been just 2 years waiting, I've had to pull out of the last two intakes, due to work!! The reason I've been waiting so long is because I lived aboard in a few different country's, there was problems with my BR checks!! Trying to get clearance from the police forces in these country's nightmare!!!

You would need to ask them......it took me 5 years to get to this stage and i have never lived away from home and have only got 2 relatives in England with none having records!

Just reading an info form of the reserve training and Phase 2 is as followes

56 hours training at weekends / evenings over an eight week period during which the trainee Reserve member will learn basic law and Garda procedures.

Why then is it 2 weeks then, surely they could do it over 1 full week.

You are better off been as honest as you can with these things!! I myself had people with records on my BR!! My brother has graced a few cells in his day, and I was asked about a cousin of mine who I have't seen or spoke to in years!! , the superintendent asked me about this, all I could say was I knew nothing about this, and I don't follow in their footsteps!!

Can anyone who was down for training there last week, shed any light of how it all went, and if there had been any changes to the process ect?

Hey, Finally been invited to attend training, excited but nervous!!... Got till March to get everything sorted. However I dont drive... Whats the easiest way to get down to Templemore? Bus? or is there a train?, without giving too much away coming from the Dublin area....? If someone could help I would be more than grateful.

yeah about that, when ye get off the train, walk out of the station, straight out down past the lidl and at the crossroads turn left, you'll see the college gates at the end of the road from there
